I am a graduate of Yale University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on 3D Mechanical Design. During my time there, I was exposed to the many inequities that exist in accessing resources in STEM and since then I've been passionate about breaking down any barriers to entry. I've worked as an Engineering teacher, exposing students to Robotics, Engineering Design as well as Architectural design through platforms such as VEX, Roblox, Onshape, Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Revit. As a mechanical engineer, I love to do anything that's hands on, innovative and challenges and improves my own skills. STEM is meant to be fun!

I am eager to share this with the students of Varsity Tutors. I with students from K-12 in the US, university students in China, mentally disabled adults in Harlem, and villagers in Mozambique. My favorite subject is biology and I also particularly enjoy writing, but I am happy to work on a variety of subjects with students.
I am here to help!
I am an English and essay writing tutor available to help with English and language arts assignments, grammar, essay writing, literary analysis, and ACT and SAT writing and reading. In 2011, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College in English language and Literature. Before tutoring with Varsity Tutors, I tutored for another private company. I am an excellent tutor because I remember distinctly what it was like to be a student and can both empathize with their frustrations and help them to move past those blocks and toward a greater understanding of the material. I believe in my students and genuinely care about their success, which shows in my work. My patience and willingness to adjust my approach to help different learning styles has also been a useful asset in the past.
I am a Pace University student majoring in Behavioral Neuroscience with an emphasis on Pre-med. During our sessions we will begin by making a plan to reach a daily goal of what is intended to be learned and mastered. Please ask questions and let me know if there are any problems. I am a friendly tutor that wishes to get the best potential out of my students and help them achieve their goals.
As a Mechanical Engineering student at Cornell University, I have a strong foundation in math and problem-solving. My experiences as an Audible intern, marching band president, and church media team leader have helped me develop communication, leadership, and mentoring skills. I enjoy helping students build confidence in math by breaking down challenging concepts into simple, understandable steps. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and grow.
I'm a dedicated STEM tutor who makes challenging concepts in biology, chemistry, and neuroscience feel clear and approachable. With experience preparing students for the MCAT and SAT, I focus on building strong foundations and effective test-taking strategies. My sessions are personalized, interactive, and tailored to each student's learning style. I use visuals, real-world examples, and active recall techniques to turn memorization into true understanding.
I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am very passionate about helping students feel more confident and excited about math. In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.
I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College and am about to declare as a Mechanical Engineering concentrator, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree. I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with my peers and those around me and have done so in both formal and informal settings. I've been a tutor for both Math and Spanish programs in high school and enjoyed the strides I made with students. I am willing to tutor any subject I have a background in, but am strong in mathematics, the sciences, Spanish, history, writing, and ACT prep. I enjoy teaching mathematics most due to the joy I can see in children once they master a topic and can answer even pointed questions meant to stump them, and maybe even put their knowledge to real world use. As a tutor, I like to give a strong foundation to orient my student, and then gradually grant them more freedom and independence until they can feel themselves grasp the concept, pointing out pitfalls or common errors along the way; teachers who used these methods on me always left the most lasting impressions. Outside of my studies, I really enjoy listening to music, both old favorites and new interests, reading classics, and gaming/playing basketball with my friends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Newark has 20 school districts serving over 59,000 students across 93 schools, and Varsity Tutors connects students from all of them with personalized instruction. Whether your student attends a Newark Public School, a charter school, or a private institution, we match them with tutors who understand the specific curriculum and standards they're working with.
Newark's average student-teacher ratio of 13.9:1 means many students don't get the individualized attention they need to master challenging concepts. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction fills that gap by allowing tutors to focus entirely on your student's learning pace, learning style, and specific areas of struggle—something that's difficult in a traditional classroom setting.
Tutors connected through Varsity Tutors are familiar with New Jersey's learning standards and assessment expectations, including the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) across subjects like math, ELA, science, and social studies. They tailor instruction to ensure students build the skills and knowledge required for grade-level success and standardized assessments.
Students for students in Newark seek help across a wide range of subjects, with math and English language arts being the most common. We also connect students with tutors for science, social studies, test prep (including SAT and ACT), and language learning. The specific needs vary by grade level and individual student goals.
The first session is focused on getting to know your student—their learning style, current strengths, challenges, and goals. The tutor will assess where your student stands academically and discuss a personalized plan for moving forward. This foundation helps ensure that every session that follows is targeted and effective.
Start by telling us about your student's needs and goals. Varsity Tutors will match them with an expert tutor who fits their learning style and academic focus. Once matched, you'll schedule your first session and begin personalized instruction tailored to your student's pace and goals.
Absolutely. Whether your student is struggling with fractions in elementary math, algebra in middle school, or complex essay writing in high school, personalized tutoring targets those specific gaps.
