I was homeschooled for the first seventeen years of my life by my mother, a certified teacher, in the Seton curriculum. Summer vacations consisted of camping trips to sites such as Gettysburg and Colonial Williamsburg, which contributed to my lifelong appreciation of history. This education was supplemented by courses at Gloucester County College, from which I graduated with an Associates Degree (A.A) in Arts and Sciences. I then transferred to St. Bonaventure University, graduating magna cum laude in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in general History. My introductory experience to the Spanish language was a semester abroad in Sevilla. My interests remain broad and unsated to this day, including history, literature, myth and an occasionally problematic fascination with fantasy literature. I have since channeled these into pursuit of a Master's Degree in American History and Culture. The next step will be a certification in ESL education.I find a balance of vigorous exercise and leisure time essential to a focused mind. While I no longer play baseball or (roller) hockey, I run and ride my ten-speed often and watch an odd game when I can. Concerning leisure, I've been learning to play the guitar since I was fourteen and enjoy music ranging from classical to rock and hip hop.

I am a graduate of Drew University with a double major in History and Theater. I was awarded Outstanding Student of History and am a member of the History Honors Society. I am also about to have one of my papers published in the Edinburgh History of Reading.I primarily have experience tutoring in the humanities (English, writing and history). I received degrees in Political Science and Economics at Drew University and studied Education at Eastern University. In 2006, I began my teaching career in Philadelphia Public High Schools. I have developed my teaching methods and style through eight years of experience as a classroom teacher. I have experience teaching American History, African American History, World History, Social Science, Economics, Political Science and AP American Government & Politics. For the past three years, I have taught AP American Government & Politics at one of Philadelphia's highest performing public high schools. My students have consistently excelled on the AP Exam due to the high degree of academic rigor I employ. I have also been selected as an AP Reader. As such, I was given the opportunity to travel to Salt Lake City to grade the written portions of the AP Exam. In 2013, I was awarded the Lindback Award for Outstanding Teaching.

Hi! My name is Catherine Ulassin. I am a recent graduate of Drew University, and I majored in French and Creative Writing. I have a strong passion for language. I fell in love with the French language in high school after finding my favorite singer, Keen'V. I began teaching myself French at home and was fluent by the time I graduated. I then went to college and had the opportunity to study abroad in Nantes, France as part of an immersive program. I plan to return to France to live there permanently. Language changed my life and opened so many doors for me. I want to be able to help students find their own love for language and have fun with a subject that is often very difficult to understand. I hope I can help you not only get good grades and succeed academically, but also find a love of language and learning!

I received my Bachelor's Degree from Drew University in Economics and Political Science. While at Drew, I was fortunate enough to study at the United Nations for one semester - an experience I'll never forget! After working for 1 year, I went back to school to earn my Master's Degree in Economics from SUNY Albany. However, my studies have never stopped. While working in the private sector, I earned the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation. I've also held securities licenses (FINRA 6, 7, 24, & 63) as well as the Life Insurance licenses. I also earned the Competent Communicator designation from Toastmasters International - an organization that helps people improve their speaking and leadership skills.I have been teaching students in a variety of settings since 2001. Currently, I am the Associate Dean of General studies at a local college. However, I discovered my love of teaching while I was an adjunct teacher at Quincy College. While there, I taught Economics and Finance. I've also had the pleasure substitute teaching in both the Braintree and Quincy public school systems.As you may be able to tell, I love teaching Economics! It's a subject that is always in the news and I love teaching the theory and relating it to the real world. Economics is tied closely with government - another subject that I like to discuss especially now given the Presidential election next year. I also enjoy finance as most of my career has been involved with finance and investments - especially retirement planning - a topic many people do not want to think about but is quite important in the long run!While not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and cheering on the Boston sport teams. In the past I ran cross country in college and was captain of the team. I was also fortunate to complete the Boston Marathon - where I ran half of it (the other half I walked)!Given the differing age groups that I have taught, I feel comfortable teaching anyone. I am very patient with students and take the time so that students understand the subject matter. To me, students come first and I will do whatever I can to help the student learn the material! I typically end a class with a joke - while I cannot promise that the jokes are good, I do hope to put a smile on people's faces!

As a tutor, I believe that students benefit from a variety of approaches, depending on their backgrounds, current situations and feelings about writing. I believe the most important part of tutoring is empowering the student to feel that he/she is capable of writing and reading well and correcting his/her own errors. Most recently, since 2005, I have taught beginning and advanced comp at Passaic County Community College, advised and tutored students in danger of failing college at Marymount, run the writing component of the CAP program at Pace University (a program which allows students who would not normally be accepted to have a year's probation, when their work needs to be brought up to college level), and taught freshman comp and advanced research classes at York-CUNY. I also piloted and designed a class for below college level writers at Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work. In private tutoring through Sponsors for Educational Opportunity, I have worked with high school students with issues including ESL, Developmental Delays and emotional barriers.Besides freshman comp, I have also taught advanced research and writing skills classes for all majors, and helped students prepare multi-media and new media presentations.
