I am an incoming sophomore transfer at Northwestern University, where I plan to study political science and legal studies. I graduated high school in 2020 and then took a gap year, during which time I completed several internships but truly found my passion as an intern at my local legal aid organization. Being able to figure out what study methods worked best for me (regardless of the subject I was studying) is the reason that I believe I was successful in my undergraduate studies and is crucial in any kind of learning in my opinion.I strongly feel that focusing on what a person enjoys and using their strengths toward their advantage is the only way to help someone truly learn well and recall information correctly. When working with Statistics students I go through their homework one problem at a time. I will talk the student through the first problem and then will give a problem with similar conditions and have them attempt it on their own. Through this, the student will be learning how to complete the problem with low stakes and low stress. When tutoring in History, my goal is to fill in the missing gaps. To do this, I facilitate a conversation about the subject, whether that be the French Revolution or any other historical event. By having a conversation, dry historical information becomes more interesting and memorable.I began tutoring with Varsity Tutors in the Fall of 2015. Before that, I have experience working at my high school tutoring as well as working with younger kids and getting them interested in learning. In the Spring of 2017 I took the semester off from tutoring because I was studying abroad in Ireland, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
