I tutor math and physics, which is what I studied at Iowa State University. I've always enjoyed math and physics as subjects and find enjoyment in bringing that same enjoyment and understanding to aspiring students. I believe the best approach to helping a student is to understand their goals. Do they want to pass the class? Are they looking for particular topic help? Are they looking to excel? My approach to teaching the subject matter changes depending on what the student is looking for.

I'm a junior undergraduate at Florida State University with over 200 hours of tutoring experience, both online and in person. I've been teaching for more than two years, including students with learning disorders like ADHD, and I mainly specialize in physics, chemistry, calculus, and algebra. Outside of tutoring, I've been a soccer coach for the past four years, which taught me patience, creativity, and how to keep things engaging no matter who I'm working with. I can tutor math through chemistry, physics, and statistics, tying lessons to real-life applications and adjusting my approach to fit each student- because there's never just one "right" way to understand a problem.

I love math, and have a passion for sharing that love and knowledge. Progressing through courses of mathematics teaches much beyond what is on the page. It teaches problem-solving, critical and creative thinking. I try not only to teach the mechanics of math, but instill an appreciation for the skills the process can develop. My name is Francis Nguyen. I am married and have three beautiful daughters. I graduated with a Bachelor in Math Education in 2000 and a Masters in Math in 2003 from Fairfield University. I have been teaching high school for over 20 years. The subjects I have taught ranged from elementary math to Trigonometry. I love to help children learn math and succeed in math.

I am currently a graduate student at Northwestern University, pursuing a M.S. in biomedical engineering. My past experiences in tutoring are spread across a wide age range (K-12). I spent a few summers teaching and interacting with elementary students to help improve their math and English skills for the grade they will be entering. My passion runs deeply for tutoring music theory and math subjects. Encouraging people to see academic struggles as a stepping stone rather than a sign of failure is how I lift up the spirits of my students. Outside of academics, I spend most of my time playing piano, exploring other instruments, and watching tv with a cup of coffee and/or a bowl of popcorn.

After an 11-year hiatus, I am excited to return to one-on-one tutoring in high school and college-level precalculus, calculus, and physics. My goal is to build students' confidence in subjects that often feel overwhelming by identifying the root of their challenges - whether it's a forgotten foundational skill or a mismatch in teaching and learning styles - and helping them work through those roadblocks with clarity and patience. I discovered my passion for tutoring in high school through volunteer mentoring and later assisted classmates in physics at my teacher's request. Since then, I have supported students in courses ranging from geometry to upper-level calculus. I am currently tutoring while pursuing my next full-time opportunity, most recently having worked for a railroad construction products supplier.

I am a student at Boston College studying Economics and English. I have an excellent academic record, haven taken 14 AP courses throughout high school, and have preformed well on many standardized exams. I strive to help other students to do the same! I have three years of experience tutoring peers at high school, college, and privately, primarily in English, Math, and SAT prep. Though I tutor a range of subjects, I am most passionate about helping students conquer Standardized Tests (specifically the reading and writing sections) and English. I want to help students excel on Standardized Exams so they can pursue their higher education goals. I direct my tutoring towards identifying students' learning methods and catering to those to establish continued engagement in doing so, I hope to foster a love of learning similar to mine. Outside of tutoring and school, I enjoy reading and believe that reading consistently is the key to succeeding in writing and preforming well on Standardized Exams. My love for creative writing has also led me to draft a novel which I am continuing to edit, and as an Assistant Director of the Campus Activities Board at Boston College I plan live music-focused events to engage students on campus.

I have a Master's of Teaching with a focus in secondary mathematics from Virginia Commonwealth University and Bachelor's degrees in Applied Mathematics and Economics from the College of William and Mary. I am currently a high school math teacher and am passionate about cultivating a love for mathematics.
