I am an undergraduate earning my Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington. I have already earned my Associate's of Arts with honors through the running start program, and graduated high school as a Valedictorian. I have worked with Disability Resource Services in taking notes for students, and have also offered assistance with homework to other students. As an engineering student, I am able to use my experience to offer assistance with math. I am also able to tutor in chemistry since I have already completed the general chemistry series. I believe that education is extremely important in life, not only for the purpose of knowledge, but also for the determination and ambition that learning teaches us. Understanding concepts not only takes time, but also dedication. As a student who has also attended many tutoring hours, I have come to understand that concepts sometimes require different approaches to finally have that idea click.

During my 20 years in math education, I have always found so much excitement from seeing students become more confident in their abilities. I understand that not all students learn the same way and use my experiences in working with a variety of students to find multiple ways to make the learning meaningful. This includes using real-world examples, visuals, technology, and thorough explanations. I have tutored students in math from grades 5 through 12, SAT and ACT prep, and even AP and college courses. I am New York State Certified in Adolescent Math Education, Nationally Board Certified in Adolescent Mathematics, and also recently obtained my certification in Administration, since I love learning as much as I love teaching! When I am not tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my three dogs, reading, cooking, and traveling.

After an 11-year hiatus, I am excited to return to one-on-one tutoring in high school and college-level precalculus, calculus, and physics. My goal is to build students' confidence in subjects that often feel overwhelming by identifying the root of their challenges - whether it's a forgotten foundational skill or a mismatch in teaching and learning styles - and helping them work through those roadblocks with clarity and patience. I discovered my passion for tutoring in high school through volunteer mentoring and later assisted classmates in physics at my teacher's request. Since then, I have supported students in courses ranging from geometry to upper-level calculus. I am currently tutoring while pursuing my next full-time opportunity, most recently having worked for a railroad construction products supplier.

After teaching for fifteen years from grade six to college level students there is one truth I have learned. Learning can only occur if the student has a point of reference. As teachers we have the responsibility to evaluate our student's level of knowledge and to increase their level of understanding, comprehension, analysis, and diagnosis of the subject we teach. Furthermore, I believe that a teacher is morally obligated to enter the classroom with only the highest of expectations for each and every one of her students. Thus, the teacher maximizes the positive benefits that naturally come along with any self-fulfilling prophecy. With dedication, perseverance, and hard work, her students will rise to the occasion. I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day.
