I am currently a 2nd year Law Student at Duquesne University. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in History from West Virginia University. In 2017 I completed my degrees in German and Journalism and moved on to study a Masters degree TESOL while teaching German courses at West Virginia University. During that time I wrote substantial research into language learning and utilization and won the prestigious award as Eberly College Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant for the World Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics Department 2018-2019. Thereafter, I spent the summer teaching English to children in Italy and working as an adjunct German instructor for the Georgia Institute of Technology. I come from a long line of teachers. My father, sister, grandfather, aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces all chose teaching as their life's work.Even at a very early age it was becoming apparent that teaching would become a large part of my future. I remember sitting in on one of my father's classes. I was so proud of my dad as I watched him interact with his students. I actually got as excited as my teammate was when they got that new skill.That excitement just continued to grow as I was offered a free masters degree program (plus compensation) at West Virginia University when I agreed to assistant coach their women's gymnastics team and teach classes. The team had never made it to regionals before I got there. By my second year not only did the team make it to regionals but WON regionals then went on to Nationals and ended up being the third best team in the U.S.A.There were several more success stories during my two decades of teaching/coaching and counseling. I am currently a neuroscience and molecular medicine major at West Virginia University. I have a strong passion with not just STEM classes, but also creative writing. I have been working with kids to develop many important skills for four years now. I currently have an associate's degree and am working on my bachelor's degree.

As an experienced teacher and devoted advocate for music education, I am happy to provide tutoring services to students of all ages. I hold a Master of Music (MM) degree in Orchestral Conducting from West Virginia University and a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from The Ohio State University. Teaching experience includes Music Theory, Conducting, Instrumental Lessons, and Large Ensemble Rehearsals with students of all ages and backgrounds, in classroom, rehearsal, small group, and one-on-one settings. Professional experience includes serving as a cover conductor with three professional orchestras, and work as a Teaching Assistant at West Virginia University and the University of Iowa. I am able to tutor students in the subjects of Music Theory, Aural Skills, Music History/Musicology, Music Performance, Music Composition, and Score Reading. I take an individual-based approach with each student, able to modify curriculum to fit each individual's needs and areas of interest.

I enjoy helping students grow their knowledge and learning capabilities. My teaching philosophy involves creating a welcoming and safe learning environment for students, making sessions interactive and providing an opportunity for students to take control of their learning.

I have always loved to travel which I guess is why I studied languages in the first place. When I took on French at West Virginia University it was something I simply enjoyed. After I finished my music studies I moved to Lyon, France where I was able to focus on independent music research. I fell in love with the French culture through performances, business meetings, collaborations, and time with friends. I loved it so much that I stayed there for two years. Now I am back in the States helping students with their French and helping fellow travelers like myself learn the language so that they may have an easier and more meaningful experience. As a teacher I am calm and laid back and French is often taught best that way. Most of my students not only learn what they need for coursework, they learn cultural aspects and speaking as well. I am a firm believer in teaching culture with the language because it is often difficult to learn and understand the language otherwise.I love cooking, traveling, and trying new restaurants. I am also cheerful and love to laugh. So I watch movies, comedies and comedians.

I am a 2006 college graduate with a BA in English from Bethany College in Bethany, WV, and a 2012 masters graduate with an MA in Communication Studies from WVU. In 2006, I completed a certificate in publishing from the Denver Publishing Institute, with a heavy focus on editing and proofreading. Since my college years, I have taught developmental English/writing skills for college students, as well as public speaking, interpersonal communication, and study and organizational skills courses. While working at a community college, I conducted many workshops focused on student success, from time management to stress management, from study skills to test taking strategies and more. I have also worked as a legal proofreader and document processor for international law firms.My primary area for tutoring focuses on student writing, which could be for any subject since the basics of good writing and the components of essays cross departmental boundaries. Whether a student is writing a paper for English in response to a prompt or reading assignment or preparing a research paper for a psychology class, I can assist students in developing and supporting ideas and writing out those ideas in a clearly structured essay. In addition to writing assistance, I can assist students with using Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, as well as beginner level MS Project.My tutoring and teaching strategy primarily involves coaching students with questions that will help them develop ideas for writing and problem solve issues in their own writing. My goal is to guide students through the learning processes, making them the advocates of their own learning. When working with students on reviewing drafts of papers, I take an "umbrella" approach, assessing and providing feedback on "big picture" concepts like idea development and cohesiveness in writing and directing students to "small picture" concepts like proper grammar, mechanics, and spelling.I wish to tutor because I believe that education contributes to the greater good of society. In order to help students advance in their educational and career goals, as well as to help them become thoughtful, informed members of society, tutoring can provide students the guidance and support they need. I value the ability to coach students to promote their own learning and succeed in the academic environment.Outside of academia and tutoring, I am an avid reader--from science fiction to fantasy to non-fiction to literary fiction. My husband and I are also advocates of good and entertaining television, including Dr. Who, Star Trek, Marvel's Agents of Shield, sitcoms like Modern Family and The Goldbergs, and many more. I am a proponent of gardening and enjoyed the chance to attempt my own vegetable garden for the last two summers. Additionally, I support being a responsible citizen as an informed, registered voter and protector of the environment, using whatever green methods I can (recycling, driving fuel efficient vehicles, and using recycled products). I have also participated in worthy causes like Relay for Life and "Pie in the Face" activities for St. Baldricks. After discovering I had a gluten intolerance, I also became a proponent of healthy, natural eating and living a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle.

As a Certified Permanent Substitute teacher for more than 7 years, I've found that my passion for and commitment to teaching, have only grown with every year. Even with the complexities of the current educational landscape, the feeling of getting through to that student who just wasn't "getting the hang of it," or helping advanced students achieve their goals, never gets old. I have dedicated my career to helping students of all levels master the skills and concepts they need to go on to college and everyday life beyond high school. I would love to continue that path with your school or child. Over my seven years of teaching, I've made it a point to stay up-to-date on the most current teaching methods, and use custom lesson planning to develop relevant curriculum for students in order to maximize their engagement on complex concepts. I've worked in a wide variety of subjects in the educational system, and I would bring that enthusiasm and expertise to your tutoring experience. I have taught Severely Autistic, Course Recovery/Life Skills, Behavior Disorder, Mentally Impaired, Learning Disabled, Hearing/Visually Impaired, and Physically Challenged students. As for the regular classrooms, I have been a teacher for 7th Grade Science, 4th Grade, 3rd Grade, Sixth Grade Math, and Pre-K. I have also worked as a daycare provider, assisting with children from the ages of birth to 12 years of age. I received my Bachelor's Degree, in Elementary Education, from Marshall University. Also, I have a Master's Degree, as a Reading Specialist, from West Virginia University. I taught in W.V. for the majority of my teaching experience, but now I live in North Carolina. Reading and writing are my favorite subjects to teach, but I am experienced with math and history as well. I'm experienced with any subject at the elementary level. As for middle school, I am experienced in English, and History. Also for math, I have the most experience in sixth grade.
