I graduated with my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from WVU. I have a strong background in Math and Chemistry. I graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. I've tutored for a couple of years in high school and college Math and Chemistry courses. I enjoy helping students understand or explain things in ways that they will understand a topic that is difficult for them. I promote out-of-the-box thinking and I hope that I will be able to help address any questions you have.

I have been teaching Spanish language for the past 20 years and I cannot think of a more fulfilling vocation! It is a joy to work with students at all levels of Spanish and to watch them progress and acquire the necessary skills to communicate effectively. I strongly believe in personalized instruction as every learner is different, and I always bring enthusiasm and patience to every lesson. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to work one-on-one with students and to build a customized lesson to ensure success. In my free time, I enjoy dancing tango and practicing yoga. Just recently I have begun golf lessons and I realize that aside from being a tutor and teacher, I am a lifelong student...always embracing new ways to step out of my comfort zone and learn something new. I like to bring this attitude to the classroom and tutoring session as well...encouraging my students that it is not only okay to make mistakes, it is actually ideal, since it is in our mistakes that we can dig in and work out problems in order to achieve a greater understanding of the material at hand.

I am a graduate of West Virginia University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Also, currently completing a master's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Alabama. I have worked with tutoring other students in various engineering subjects, focusing mostly on mathematics subjects ranging from pre-calculus and algebra to differential equations. In 2006, I completed a certificate in publishing from the Denver Publishing Institute, with a heavy focus on editing and proofreading. Since my college years, I have taught developmental English/writing skills for college students, as well as public speaking, interpersonal communication, and study and organizational skills courses. While working at a community college, I conducted many workshops focused on student success, from time management to stress management, from study skills to test taking strategies and more. I have also worked as a legal proofreader and document processor for international law firms.My primary area for tutoring focuses on student writing, which could be for any subject since the basics of good writing and the components of essays cross departmental boundaries. Whether a student is writing a paper for English in response to a prompt or reading assignment or preparing a research paper for a psychology class, I can assist students in developing and supporting ideas and writing out those ideas in a clearly structured essay. In addition to writing assistance, I can assist students with using Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, as well as beginner level MS Project.My tutoring and teaching strategy primarily involves coaching students with questions that will help them develop ideas for writing and problem solve issues in their own writing. My goal is to guide students through the learning processes, making them the advocates of their own learning. When working with students on reviewing drafts of papers, I take an "umbrella" approach, assessing and providing feedback on "big picture" concepts like idea development and cohesiveness in writing and directing students to "small picture" concepts like proper grammar, mechanics, and spelling.I wish to tutor because I believe that education contributes to the greater good of society. I am a proponent of gardening and enjoyed the chance to attempt my own vegetable garden for the last two summers. Additionally, I support being a responsible citizen as an informed, registered voter and protector of the environment, using whatever green methods I can (recycling, driving fuel efficient vehicles, and using recycled products). I have also participated in worthy causes like Relay for Life and "Pie in the Face" activities for St. Baldricks. After discovering I had a gluten intolerance, I also became a proponent of healthy, natural eating and living a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle.

I come from a long line of teachers. My father, sister, grandfather, aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces all chose teaching as their life's work.Even at a very early age it was becoming apparent that teaching would become a large part of my future. I remember sitting in on one of my father's classes. I was so proud of my dad as I watched him interact with his students. It was obvious the class loved him as they hung onto every word from his mouth. I hoped and dreamed to be just like him one day.At 15 it became more clear that the teaching profession would become an integral part of my future. I was a gymnast and inevitably I would gravitate over to one of my teammates who was struggling with a new trick. I would spend my practice time teaching my teammate how to get that new trick and it occurred time and time again. I actually got as excited as my teammate was when they got that new skill.That excitement just continued to grow as I was offered a free masters degree program (plus compensation) at West Virginia University when I agreed to assistant coach their women's gymnastics team and teach classes. The team had never made it to regionals before I got there. By my second year not only did the team make it to regionals but WON regionals then went on to Nationals and ended up being the third best team in the U.S.A.There were several more success stories during my two decades of teaching/coaching and counseling. I opened my own private gyms and developed numerous national and international level athletes and champions.Teaching continues to make me happy and proud of what I've accomplished and the 100's of student's lives that I've touched.Looking back, sitting in my dad's class as a 12 year old helped me make one of the most important and fulfilling decisions of my life. becoming a teacher.

This gives students more confidence, encourages dialogue, and shows that the conveyance of ideas is not one way.However, my job does not end with class. I have encouraged and mentored students from various backgrounds in my career. It is greatly satisfying when they come to me requesting letters of recommendation to a program, law school, graduate school, a scholarship, or a job posting. It is gratifying seeing students apply what they learned to further their endeavors and enrich their lives.
