I've taught accounting at all levels for many years and have had numerous one-on-one interactions with students. One of my greatest satisfactions in teaching is when the student has the "aha" moment when the concept we're working on clicks with them and they "get it" now. I try my best to break down the complex and make it easier to understand, and with accounting that is a key to gaining confidence in solving the problems.

I have been a classroom teacher at the elementary level for three years and am highly dedicated to what I do. I believe my job, as an instructor, is to create an atmosphere that fosters learning. I am an instructor because I am dedicated to guiding students through the learning process, in addition to a passion for the material I present. One of the best ways to foster learning is to demonstrate those feelings to my students. I encourage learning by creating a relaxed environment for students, stimulating conversation about concepts being presented and organizing material in a way that makes it easiest to understand. I treat subject matter as interconnected, emphasizing that everything students are learning fits together into a holistic understanding of the world, from which they develop their personal worldview. Finally, I believe that respect for my students is one of the most important things I can show - not only to encourage their openness to the material I am presenting, but also to inspire them to respect each other and all other people. One of the most important concepts I hope to convey to students is that learning is a process that never ends. For me, the learning process includes improving myself professionally. I want to read more about formal learning theories to understand more thoroughly how learning takes place. Finally, I plan to experiment with different methods and means of presenting information to students I tutor in order to improve the learning atmosphere I create for each individual student.

I have always enjoyed teaching students various subjects. I particularly enjoy seeing the response when the student truly understands the topic. I like to focus on finding ways to make sure the student UNDERSTANDS the topic rather than simply learning to memorize the facts. I find that they are always able to retain the knowledge more that way.I especially focus on teaching students to focus on reaching their long term goals in addition to just learning the material needed at the moment.I graduated from Purdue University with a BSEE degree and have worked at Motorola in technical roles as well as an Engineering manager where I managed and mentored junior engineers. I have taught all the subjects and test prep to my daughters throughout their education as well.I thoroughly enjoy working with students and can't wait to help more people reach their potentials.

Additionally, I have valid Texas teacher certifications in teaching all core subjects, grades EC-4, and grades 4-8. Lastly, I have Texas teacher certifications for teaching ESL and Spanish (grades K-12). It has been my blessing to have tutored children in English while in the Peace Corps-Ecuador (1 yr.) and as a missionary with Cristo El Salvador Church and School in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala (4 yrs). While in Puerto Barrios, I also taught Calvert correspondence classes to missionary children (1 yr). It has also been my joy to have tutored working-class adults, university students, and children in Thailand looking to improve their English (15 yrs.). I have tutored Chinese English learners as well as Chinese dyslexic English learners privately in Shenzhen, China as well (7 yrs.). It's also been my privilege to teach Bible and Christian Education classes to adults and children of all ages while serving in Guatemala, Thailand, China, and the US, including Hispanic teens living in a shelter for unaccompanied youth caught at the US-Mexican border. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about teaching Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Mechanics of English to both struggling students and those who are at grade level. In my experience helping struggling students, it is vital to know in which areas they struggle and then focus the tutoring sessions on those areas. Hi, I'm Brent Roschke, a Purdue student planning to study aerospace and nuclear engineering. I tutor math, physics, chemistry, and ACT prep. I've tutored since high school through my school's program and with private clients working with students from 5th to 12th grade, from foundational math up to advanced AP and IB coursework. I learned early that the same explanation rarely works for everyone, so much of what I do is finding the angle a particular student needs before a concept clicks. Having recently been through college admissions myself, I bring that to ACT prep too, where strategy and pacing matter as much as content. When a student is stuck, I don't just re-explain it louder I find a different angle: a sketch, a concrete example, or working through a problem together while they drive. I'd rather nudge a student to the answer than solve it for them, so a concept goes from intimidating to obvious and they start to believe they can do it on their own.

Working with these population sparked my love and passion for teaching and helping students who may struggle in certain areas. My passion is to assist individuals reach their full potential no matter what challenge. My tutoring style will consist of me figuring out your learning style (which I find so important) while being patient and flexible. I want my students to feel comfortable and come as they are.Now a little about me. I received my bachelors in science with a major in psychology and a minor human development and family studies from Purdue University. It hard to choose but my favorite classes in college were clinical psychology, abnormal psychology, child psychology, and atypical child development. After graduation I started my masters at Ball State to become a board certified behavior analyst in order to keep working with children who have developmental disabilities. During this summer I decided that this track wasn't for me anymore. As I love and thrive in the academic environment I decided that I wanted to still obtain a masters degree in the near future. My current plan is to become a elementary teacher because I want my future students love school as much as I do.Lastly, in my spare time you can find me doing all things outdoors (especially rock climbing) with my fiance and friends as well as reading my huge collection of books.

In my first year at Georgia Tech, I have had the wonderful opportunity to work one on one with two different undergraduate students in the lab. I am adept at changing my teaching style to match someone's level of understanding in a particular subject. My father loved camping and the out of doors and so some of my earliest memories are of camping in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. As a family, we took extended trips through the western United States, Canada and Alaska, towing a travel trailer and camping in mostly primitive camps. As a young teen, I started backpacking in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado and developed a great love for the mountain and canyon country of the west. It was this great love of nature that attracted me to science--first as a Forestry major at Northern Arizona University but which eventually evolved to the study of chemistry, as that seemed to me the basic science that was as the heart of understanding nature. While my love of learning was probably instilled in me very early in my life (thanks to my parents, I was an avid reader), it really came out while in college. In finishing my chemistry degree, I realized I was just beginning to learn what I wanted to learn and went on to graduate school to get a PhD studying Physical Chemistry at Purdue University.I am now retired from full time teaching, but not from my love of learning (nor my love of the mountains) which has continually evolved. My experiences of teaching science from demonstrations in elementary school to graduate level courses have given me a great interest in the teaching of science to the general public and sharing with others, that same awe, wonder and appreciation I have."To become educated is to become more human."

Either way, you get guidance from someone who has walked the same academic path.

Learning from a Purdue alumnus means getting guidance from someone who has already mastered the material and succeeded in a challenging academic environment. They can share not just what to study, but how to study effectively—the time management strategies, problem-solving approaches, and mindset that helped them excel. This real-world experience often translates into faster progress and greater confidence for students.
