- I enjoy tutoring children and adults in beginner and intermediate Spanish as well.
About Me
I am a graduate of Purdue University, Concordia University-Chicago, and ECAP (Education Careers Alternative Program). I received my Bachelor of Arts in Agricultural with a focus on Agricultural Economics and Spanish. I also received my Master of Arts in Theology & Education with a focus on biblical studies, deaconess ministry (ministry of care and compassion), and psychology/education of children and teens. Additionally, I have valid Texas teacher certifications in teaching all core subjects, grades EC-4, and grades 4-8. Lastly, I have Texas teacher certifications for teaching ESL and Spanish (grades K-12). It has been my blessing to have tutored children in English while in the Peace Corps-Ecuador (1 yr.) and as a missionary with Cristo El Salvador Church and School in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala (4 yrs). While in Puerto Barrios, I also taught Calvert correspondence classes to missionary children (1 yr). It has also been my joy to have tutored working-class adults, university students, and children in Thailand looking to improve their English (15 yrs.). I have tutored Chinese English learners as well as Chinese dyslexic English learners privately in Shenzhen, China as well (7 yrs.). It's also been my privilege to teach Bible and Christian Education classes to adults and children of all ages while serving in Guatemala, Thailand, China, and the US, including Hispanic teens living in a shelter for unaccompanied youth caught at the US-Mexican border. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about teaching Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Mechanics of English to both struggling students and those who are at grade level. In my experience helping struggling students, it is vital to know in which areas they struggle and then focus the tutoring sessions on those areas. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy developing my personal spiritual growth, reading that which enriches my life, walking, connecting with friends and family all over the world, and helping those in need.
Hobbies & Interests
Hobbies allow me to divert from the responsibilities of daily life and give me the opportunity to use certain God-given talents that allow me to relax amidst the business of life. Some of my hobbies include photography, photo and video movie development using various apps, organizing files digitally, reading for personal pleasure as well as personal development, baking, cooking, camping, walking, hiking in mountains, excitement through adventure, traveling, sight-seeing, and people watching.
