I am a life long learner and enjoy seeing that excitement in my students.
I believe that to learn something the student has to be an active participant. If students take ownership of their own learning, then the process of learning becomes meaningful and lasting. The educator is merely a facilitator for learning. Throughout my life I have been profoundly influenced by teachers who guided me through my own journey in education. They taught me that a good teacher opens the door, though it is you who must walk through it. With their encouragement, patience, and caring I overcame many hurdles to achieve things in education that I had always believed were beyond my grasp. Those achievements have led to a more fulfilling life. As an educator, I believe it is my duty to share with others what was given to me.

On the other hand, I've always tutored Math & Computer Science subjects on the side! As a math & Sofware programming enthusiast with a deep appreciation for the beauty of numbers and problem-solving and building applications, I am eager to share my passion for mathematics & programming as a tutor. My journey with mathematics and programming has been one of continuous fascination and exploration, and I am excited about the prospect of guiding others on their own journey. During my academic pursuits, I discovered that my true joy lies in helping others understand and appreciate the intricacies of mathematics & Computer Programming. Teaching and learning are lifelong passions of mine. I love to help people understand and be amazed by learning new things. People who were previously uninterested in a topic become suddenly fascinated when they learn something truly amazing. My philosophy has always been that anybody can learn anything if they are interested in the subject. Ability is only limited by interest. So, I love to spark that interest and build a core of understanding and then let the student build on that understanding. So, I always work at the student's pace. I have no problem going over a topic again if it is needed and I strongly encourage questions.

I am a graduate of Oklahoma State University with degrees in Accounting and Economics. I have worked as a tutor for over a decade at the Learning And Student Success Opportunity (LASSO) Center on Stillwater's main campus. I have recently moved to Oklahoma City to be in closer proximity to my family and wish to continue my work as a tutor here. In my years of experiences as a tutor, I have learned to efficiently identify each student's unique learning tendencies and best mold the appropriate responses to their inquiries. I want students to understand that the process to achieving the right answers is just as vital if not more so. While I have grown quite adept at my job, I know there is always room for improvement and hope to continue my own development as an educator with every new experience.

My passion for education and in helping others succeed is based solely on my life experience as the child of a first generation parent.I have worked with students throughout my entire educational career. Helping others to succeed to the greatest gift.I attended Oklahoma State University, where I obtained a BA in History and a MA in Public History. This is where I also officially caught the teaching bug, as a voluntold gradate TA. Additionally, in 2013 I completed a MA in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Oklahoma. The subjects I tutor are numerous but generally revolve around History and Social Sciences. My undergraduate minor was Sociology, which I can also tutor.I very much enjoy tutoring History and all associated subject matter. Connecting the dots and seeing the look on a student's face when they finally get "why" this matters, is priceless. History can be fun, when presented in an applied and engaging manner.

I have made a successful profession out of education and I am dedicated to helping students of all ages to grow and to have a deeper understanding of all areas of English Language Arts. As someone that once struggled with reading comprehension, it is important to me that students gain the skills that they need in order to be successful and to be able to recall what they just read. I can remember my teachers asking me to read aloud in class. I was always extremely uncomfortable and self conscious about it. I don't want any student, young or old, to feel that way. Grammar is also a passion of mine and I feel that it is important for students to understand so that they can not only be successful in school, but also be successful in their everyday lives. I truly believe that if students have a good grasp on English and Reading, the skills that they take the time to learn now will stick with them and help them forever in all areas of their lives.

I am a lifelong learner. When I was still in school, my parents would ask me about my day because they wanted to know what I was learning. We would discuss it at the dinner table and eventually I couldn't wait to share with them my new found knowledge. My dad always said he would much rather have a hard earned "C" than an easy "A" because he learned more when he worked harder for it. That has influenced my personal and professional life forever. A's are wonderful, but if you can't recall what you learned then what was the point?I have over 30 years educational experience with students from early childhood to adults. I have my undergraduate degree in Special Education K-12, General Ed EC-8 grades, and my Masters degree in Instructional Technology. I am certified in ESL and Dyslexia.I have taught my students that learning is not meant to just pass a test or get a good grade, learning is to be internalized and used to help them through their life to do whatever they want. I want my students to be lifelong learners and enjoy learning as much as I do!

My approach centers on creating a positive and supportive learning environment, helping students build confidence and a strong self-concept in their academic abilities. My background in scientific research, including studies in neuroscience and oncology, informs my teaching, bringing real-world applications into our sessions. I am passionate about education and committed to empowering my students to achieve their academic goals.
I am a teacher with 29 years of experience, holding a Master's in Reading Intervention and certifications in Spanish and French. I am passionate about helping learners identify their gaps and areas of growth to guide them to mastery. For my master's study, I had a class of 22 Juniors who took the Pre-ACT. Eleven of the students received a sub-score ranging from 11 to 19. I identified two reading strategies that would most effectively improve my students' reading proficiency. I explicitly taught students the annotation rules for finding the main idea and supporting details. I taught morphology to increase students' vocabulary and their ability to recognize words and their meanings based on root words and affixes. When the students took the ACT in April, they increased their reading scores by 8 points. I believe that once a learner gains higher self-esteem as a reader and scholar, they become internally motivated to continue achieving success in all areas of academics.
