About Me

I am a teacher with 29 years of experience, holding a Master's in Reading Intervention and certifications in Spanish and French. I am passionate about helping learners identify their gaps and areas of growth and guiding them to mastery. For my master's study, I had a class of 22 Juniors who took the Pre-ACT. Eleven of the students received a sub-score ranging from 11 to 19. I identified two reading strategies, based on research, that would most effectively improve my students' reading proficiency. I explicitly taught students annotation rules to find the main idea and supporting details. I taught morphology to increase students' vocabulary and their ability to recognize words and their meanings based on root words and affixes. When the students took the ACT in April, they all achieved a sub-score of 22 and above. I believe that once a learner gains higher self-esteem as a reader and scholar, they become internally motivated to continue achieving success in all areas of academics.
