Hello,I'm a recent graduate of the California Institute of Technology in Economics and Computer Science. I was also accepted at Harvard, Princeton, MIT, and Stanford. I have a broad range of interests spanning science, math, engineering, social science, the humanities, the arts, and athletics (I also played on the Caltech basketball team). My background allows me to tutor general college prep, especially the SAT, ACT and the GRE. I have graduated with a masters degree in computer science in 2019 from ECU and have an undergraduate degree from Marshall University.I have over 5 years of teaching experience, with 4 being as a university tutor and 1 being as a graduate teaching assistant for computer science courses such as Java, python, web development, database management, algorithms, data structures etc.I can tutor a wide range of courses in computer science including programming related courses and all database topics.My teaching style is very hands on. I believe students will get the theory in class from their professors/ teachers. I am a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, Bayamn campus. I received my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Currently, I am working on my Masters Degree in Data Science at Florida International University. Ever since I was an undergraduate I have been passionate in helping other students. I was the Vice-President and President of the Computer Science Student Association at my campus. Thanks, to this opportunity I have been able to give orientation talks Middle and High School students all over my country about what is Computer Science. Also, I have given various programming workshops in the Java Programming language. My teaching philosophy is observe the student first then tutor. That is, I first evaluate the students learning style, study habits and weaknesses the student has in the subject to be tutored in. So, I always adapt to each student. I tutor in the subjects of Math (K - 12 levels), Spanish and Computer Science. Due to the fact that I am fully bilingual, I can tutor any of these subjects in English and Spanish. However, I am not limited to tutor in these disciplines. I am passionate about helping students with their study and organization skills. Further, I was a TA for the AP Calculus AB and BC classes in high school from my sophomore year through senior year. I have a deep interest in logical deduction and the general art of mathematical problem solving; however, it is often easy for busy students and even teachers running behind schedule to allow the reasoning and deduction to fall by the wayside in favor of a memorized algorithm for solving certain problems.Fundamentally, mathematics is an art of deriving new knowledge from what we already know, so my philosophy for teaching and tutoring mathematics is primarily concerned with the "why" of problems. The quadratic formula is useful, but if you cannot derive it, then you do not truly understand it. There are simply too many problems in mathematics to memorize solutions to all of them. Therefore, my goal as a tutor is not to throw new information at you, but rather to equip you with the logical and deductive skills to solve problems on your own, even if you have never seen the problem before.Outside the classroom, I am an amateur composer and musician. I primarily play the piano, but I also recently began to learn the theremin! I also love basically every aspect of computers, and I am especially interested in the blossoming fields of Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing, one of which I hope to research professionally someday.
