I am currently a math tutor in the Portland metro area, working with underprivileged and at-risk youth. I teach supplemental algebra classes as well as help students prepare to pass the GED test and earn credit recovery.

I am a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese. I have two degrees of teaching Chinese as a second language and teaching English as a second language. I am a graduate of Reed College with a BA in Linguistics. I have prior experience working with children ages 6-11 on reading, writing, and math skills. I also worked as a peer tutor in Humanities, writing and Phonetics during my time as an undergrad. I tutor a wide range of subjects, including Elementary reading, writing, and math, as well as PSAT and SAT test prep. I am also available to help with every step of the academic writing process, from brainstorming and outlining to final editing.

I am also a professional chef having trained at the California Culinary Academy(now Cordon Bleu) in SFO. I also am a tour director, guide and driver working with student groups in DC and the NE US and conducting tours in the Southwest with small Spanish & English groups.

I'm working on completing a MS in Statistics at Portland State University. I enjoy playing guitar, reading, learning foreign languages and math. I've loved math for the way it offers never-ending opportunities of discovery and ways for people to push the boundaries of their abilities and knowledge. I believe that with a strong motivation to work hard, and some encouragement, that we're all capable of excelling at math despite however difficult it may be.

I am an undergraduate student at Barnard College majoring in Urban Studies and minoring in Spanish. I am also a Population and Family Health graduate student at Columbia School of Public Health.
