I am a University of Virginia graduate with a Bachelors of Arts in Foreign Affairs. Since graduating I have completed a Post-Baccalaureate program in Pre-Medicine, served as an instructor for both College Level Human Anatomy and Human Physiology courses and worked as a Research Assistant in a Cardiovascular Physiology laboratory. I will enter medical school in the Fall of 2015.While I tutor a broad range of science courses, I most enjoy teaching Human Physiology, Biology, and Organic Chemistry. By employing a targeted approach and an open dialogue to these typically challenging subjects, learning this material can become a manageable and rewarding process. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, exploring, and running.

I received my Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.My tutoring style is very dependent on the student and the subject, but I consistently go the extra mile to create study guides, summarization sheets, and unique visualizations to make every student understand both the large and small concepts.I first gained a keen interest in tutoring while living in New Orleans and spending 4 years volunteering as a tutor for underserved schools. Serving as a reading tutor for younger children led me to take a position as a volunteer ACT tutor, where I gained more hands-on experience tutoring older children about to take on college.I have an advantage of being a recent college graduate, where I have a great understanding of the testing styles and work needed to succeed in college level courses. I finished my degree in Neuroscience while being on the pre-medical track, so my science background is extremely strong.During my free time, I love spending time with my dog, Lucca, who I rescued from the SPCA in New Orleans while going to college. He has given me an incredible sense of purpose and care that I never knew was possible.

I am currently a professional student at Mercer University working on my Doctor of Pharmacy. As an undergraduate, I attended Lenoir-Rhyne University where I double majored in Biology and Chemistry. Having tutored both subjects, I have been able to experience and explain a variety of problems and concepts that have given students trouble. My hope as a tutor is to help students overcome problems in their science courses and demonstrate that Science is fascinating!

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky in 2007 and my Master's of Science in Chemistry from Georgia Tech in 2010. Following graduation, I worked as a chemistry professor for 3 1/2 years at Gordon State College teaching General College Chemistry I & II (chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and physical chemistry) and Organic Chemistry I & II. For the first two years that I was a chemistry instructor I was the youngest faculty member on campus and my classes would always be among the first to fill up. In my classroom, my colleagues would describe me as being the goofiest person in the room but it was something that I found necessary to connect with my students. Being a younger professor I remember what it was like to be a student and I remember the things that truly got my attention. I would teach my classes using superheroes, football references, mythbusters, and even relate some material to the school bus. In my office hours, I would be able to find out what interested the students and come up with an example that they would be able to understand. In the sciences, I believe learning should be as much hands on as possible and I used a variety of outside resources to teach various concepts, whether it would be using balloons, dry ice, tennis balls and paper wads, or even LIGHTING WATER ON FIRE. In addition to all of the chemistry subjects (up to a graduate level), I am qualified to teach physics, algebras 1-4, geometry, pre-calculus, and can do SAT and ACT math prep.Outside of the classroom I enjoy watching football and college basketball, going to broadway shows like the Book of Mormon, Wicked, and Monty Python's Spamalot, and going to comic book conventions. After experiencing DragonCon while living in the Atlanta area, there is nothing more fun than watching people dress up in Halloween costumes when it's not Halloween. Finally, I am an avid bowler and love to cook as these are my releases when I am over stressed.

I am a recent Georgetown University Graduate School graduate where I majored in Biotechnology. I have had the pleasure of being a tutor since high school and have since had several years of tutoring experience mainly in Biology and Chemistry. While majoring in Chemistry as an undergrad, I was a tutor in the above subject areas for my school where I helped several students develop excellent learning and studying techniques in subjects ranging from General Chemistry and Biology to advanced courses such as Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. Outside of formal tutoring, I have often been the go to person, amongst my peers, to simplify complex concepts in the classes we are taking together. As I am very passionate about these subjects and teaching, I am an enthusiastic tutor who focuses on helping students strengthen their basic understanding of the major concepts from which point we work together to tackle weak areas and improve on their strengths. Additionally, I help students develop studying techniques which give them the confidence to become long term successful students. One of my greatest joys is to see students achieve their goals! My interest and hobbies include hanging out with family and friends, watching sports, Zumba, and traveling.

At this point, I may be a capable and experienced student, but a student I still am nonetheless. I have formal experience tutoring fellow students at a university level--at this point two years' worth working directly with both students and professors--but just as important as that, I understand just as well what it's like to need that sort of tutoring as well. I understand the importance of a non-judgmental atmosphere in which all questions can be asked without fear, of a friendly and empathetic peer who knows why difficulties arise and how to overcome them, and of a source not just of knowledge, but of help devoted to fostering true understanding unto long-term learning and growth. These I understand because I have experienced those needs before myself, and have thereafter dedicated myself to helping fulfil those needs of others as well.
