Hello! I'm a 3rd-year medical student with plans to specialize in neurology or psychiatry. I previously graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with minors in biology and chemistry. I have an extensive tutoring background, beginning in high school. First, as an elementary school ESL tutor due to my 11 years of Spanish and Advanced Placement course experience, later becoming a Supplemental Instructor for my college's Psychology 101 courses for 2 semesters. Here I would create and hold twice weekly lessons for challenging material, pre- and post-exam reviews, and regular evening "office hours" for one-on-one, confidential, personalized support. With COVID-19, I was forced to rapidly adapt to both virtual and hybrid settings, but here I learned strategies to succeed, both as a tutor as well as a student, that I still use today! Through my own academic journey, one of these lessons I hold dear is to embrace weakness just as much as you'd embrace strength. Taking time to celebrate successes (even the small ones) has been just as important to my success as reviewing my shortcomings and evaluating potential future obstacles. My specialty is in advanced-level biomedical sciences (immunology, pathology, microbiology, genetics, etc.), but I tutor high school biology upward, as well as high-school and college-level chemistry (General & Organic). I remember my first student was the 7 grade daughter of the college librarian where I work at as an undergraduate at the University of North Alabama. I tutored her in math. I tutored numerous nursing students in chemistry while at graduate school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville where I received my PhD in 1985. I tutored students in science and math during my career as an industrial water treatment chemist. Upon retiring, I decided to continue tutoring part time as it still continues to bring me so much joy to help others suceed in their academic pursuits. I am the chemistry tutor at the tutor center at our local community college.

I graduated from Dartmouth College with a double major, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in both Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Music. I continued my education at Columbia University and received Master of Arts in Biology. Starting in middle school and continuing through my graduate career, I have tutored students in a wide variety of subjects, but I was most effective at tutoring math and science because of my lifelong love and aptitude for these subjects. Since I am also working towards a career in molecular biology, I use math and science every day, and I can explain real-world applications and uses for these subjects that may not seem obvious. By demonstrating the use of math and science in everyday life, I am able to help interact with the student and increase their interest in a subject in which they may experience difficulty. I also believe that as a tutor, it is my responsibility to engage with the student to help them achieve and even surpass their goals. In my spare time, I am heavily involved with music in New York City, being part of multiple choirs and continuing to play piano. I also enjoy exercising and exploring the city whenever I have the chance.
