Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we first worked on finishing some homework related to the standard normal distribution. Then, we worked on quiz-related content. It dealt largely with basic probability, discrete probability distributions, and some counting rules. "
"In tonight's session, the student worked on Common Core X worksheets with word problems. He did well on explaining to me how addition was related to X in each problem. He drew pictures to represent the problems and said that's what he does in school, too. I asked his father if he could get me the code to get into the student's math work ,where his homework comes from. He had a good night and is a sweet boy."
"It was great to see the student today! Today we were able to study a bit more for her test, and I think she did great! We focused on the quadratic formula and i's for a large part of our session. By the end of the lesson she was able to solve quadratics with the quadratic formula very quickly and accurately! Nicely done. The only place we can still improve is with the student's simplifying of square roots. I told her to remember that once you take the square root of a factor it comes out of the radical. If you don't take the square root it does not come out! Overall, she put in great effort today! "
"It was lovely working with this student and getting to learn about her style and strengths and weaknesses. We worked on two diagnostic pretests on an online platform that her teacher recommended, focusing on 10s (i.e. rounding and decimals) and equations (which may be more advanced than what she's been taught so far). She did well on her own on the questions we worked through. Even when she seemed to get stuck on a question, she would work hard to figure it out. It was great to see her quickly apply a new strategy I showed her to another similar question later on. She did great today. She has a positive attitude, and we can continue to work on her confidence and intuition, which will help her on complicated problems."
"Math concepts covered: Equivalent algebraic expressions, ratios & proportions, unit rates, percentages, measurement conversions. The student was struggling most with the equivalent algebraic expressions. She has a good attitude; she wants to excel. I gave her strategies for solving word problems. She is progressing well! "
"Math: Figured out Least Common Multiples for sets of three numbers. Discussed methods of counting and figuring out multiples quickly. History: Discussed study skills pertinent to subject, in this case we talked about use of two column notes."
