I completed my high school education at Walter Payton College Prep and just finished freshman year at Harvard. I have always had a passion for both learning and working with others. I have never been afraid of asking others for help on homework or classwork and have been eager to help classmates seeking help.I first got exposure to tutoring as a volunteer in the LIT program, a program designed to help under-privileged kids catch up in reading and writing. On top of being a part-time tutor, I have experience helping kids working as a camp counselor at Fred's Camp and Camp Chicago as well as taking on babysitting jobs around my neighborhood.In my experience as a tutor, the most important thing I realized was that there isn't a cookie cutter way of teaching any subject to any student. I am a graduate of Fordham University where I earned a Bachelor's degree with a major in History. In particular, I focused my energies on the study of American History. I am a Brown University senior graduating this May with a bachelors of science in neuroscience. For the past year and a half I have spent numerous hours as a volunteer for Let's Get Ready, a SAT and college prep program. I began my involvement in this organization purely on a whim, in order to give back to the community around me. I quickly discovered my passion for teaching, however, and began serving as the head math coach within a few short months. Teaching has allowed me to take part in the development of future intellects. To this purpose, I teach only mathematics and science, as those are my personal favorite subjects. I also focus on improving one's ability to think through a problem, as opposed to learning simply by base memorization. I do this because when a student's focus is solely on memorization, they often quickly forget the material due to time or stress. However, the skills one gains from learning how to think through problems are much more stable and flexible. This flexibility allows for those skills to be used in multiple subjects, and towards more advanced learning.Now, a little about me. In the future, I plan to go to medical school and become a general surgeon, due to the growing need in our current healthcare system. I enjoy drawing, salsa dancing, and bachata dancing. I'm also the self-proclaimed FIFA king of my university, and will defend my title at any non-working moment. I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State University as a Health Sciences major. While at ASU I had the opportunity to work at the Downtown Student Success Center for two years as a supplemental instructor. Most of my students were pre-med or studying to become nurses. My favorite subject to teach was Anatomy/Physiology, but I also enjoyed most math and sciences courses especially General and Organic Chemistry. In my spare time, I enjoy competing in all types of sports, reading a good book and taking a ride on my motorcycle.

Since I had some time before my classes at the Mandarin Training Center began, I traveled first to Hong Kong for 10 days, then to Guilin, China for 3 days. Most of my traveling has been in Asia, and I lived in Taiwan for about 3-1/2 years. In 2013, I went to Vietnam for 2 weeks. I traveled with a group of Vietnamese and Taiwanese friends from the north to the south of Vietnam. In 2005, I took a cruise from Florida, U.S.A. to Mexico, Jamaica and The Grand Cayman Islands. Twice, I have traveled to the Philippines including a recent vacation on Boracay Island. I enjoy exploring other countries with the local residents whenever possible. It's a good way to get away from the tourist traps.TEACHING EXPERIENCE:For nearly 2-1/2 years, I taught English 1 on 1 to business professionals in Taiwan. The focus was helping them perform their jobs more efficiently in the global economy. I also had a few students whom I helped for study aborad using the IELTS method. As part of a training exercise, I also taught two 2-hour long Business English courses. I have 32 hours of teaching experience in an elementary school. I taught 9 different levels of English to children from Kindergarten through 7th grade. Generally speaking, I am confident and relaxed in the teaching environment. The Watchtower discusses Bible topics in detail. The Awake reports on world news, as well as, human interest topics. Just for fun, I also like to read The No. 1 Ladies' Detective agency by Alexander McCall Smith. He is a Scottish author, but the story is set in Botswana, Africa. I enjoy the witty humor. Of course, I also read articles related to businesses from such magazines as Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, The Washington Post, etc.
