Bonjour! I am a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina where I obtained degrees in European Studies and French. I have always been a giant history buff and liked taking Social Studies and History exams in school because I thought they were fun (yeah...I was that kid). I have been studying French since my freshman year of high school and continued my studies in college. I studied abroad in Dijon, France where I learned not only how amazing real Dijon mustard is but all about French culture and the French language. My studies on Europe focused on the European Union, European History, and International Relations. My goal in tutoring is to make subjects exciting and relatable to a student's interests. I know how difficult it is to pronounce an 'R' in French and how hard it is to remember what modern countries were in the Kingdom of Prussia, but I'm here to help!I am available every night for tutoring as well as all day Tuesday-Thursday.

As a certified math and business teacher, I have worked with students between grades 5 and 12, both in person and online, to fill gaps in understanding previous concepts as well as helping them grasp new ideas that are being introduced to them.I received my undergraduate degree in Natural Science with a concentration in Mathematics from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. I like working with these subjects because the ideas really bring out how math is connected to even the most basic life skills, from cooking and construction, to problem-solving, logic, and general reasoning.I love talking about business concepts and how they relate to each other. I especially enjoy the connection between the creative side of Marketing and the analytical/financial aspects involved.I am a pretty laid-back, low-pressure guy who expects students to make mistakes so we can learn from them. Mistakes are expected, inspected, and respected. I believe that learning should be relevant and relate to students' lives. I believe that all students can learn mathematics, but that every student learns differently. In working with students individually, I can learn more about the student's styles of learning and tailor instruction to fit that learning style.In my spare time, I like to watch TV and movies, especially when time travel is involved. The idea of time and time travel is fascinating to me. I also like to read books that take a classic story and re-imagine them into different contexts, places, and times. I am currently reading "Cress", the third book in the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. "Cress" is based on the story of Rapunzel and is woven into the previous novels "Cinder" (based on Cinderella) and "Scarlet" (based on Little Red Riding Hood).In addition to reading, TV, and movies, I like to do counted cross-stitch and crochet. I finally taught myself how to knit, too.

I am currently in Pharmacy School at the University of Colorado - Denver. I'm in my third year and could not be more excited to start my career as a Pharmacist! Before attending Pharmacy School, I graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Biochemistry. Obviously the sciences are where my tutoring strengths lie, especially in Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology. Don't be fooled, though! I'm also great with English, essay writing, and grammar. Plus, I'm a not-so-secret history buff, especially when it comes to European History. I've also got quite a bag of tricks when it comes to study tips, organization, and balancing studying with life.I got my start in tutoring during my undergraduate studies at DU. I was a camp counselor with a summer camp for high schoolers. The camp focused on Chemistry and Math. Afterwards, I taught PCAT review classes. My personal tutoring style involves pieces of the Socratic method; I use questions and the student's knowledge of the subject to walk through a subject piece by piece. I am patient and always willing to approach a problem from a new angle if the original approach isn't quite working.When I'm not in class, I spend a lot of time outdoors in this beautiful city I call home. Prior to beginning my doctoral studies, I was a creative writing/English lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis where I completed my MFA and senior post-graduate teaching fellowship. I received my BA in Philosophy from Carleton College in 2009. Before my time in St. Louis and Denver, I taught English Literature at the Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut and, earlier, at Germantown High School in Philadelphia. During my time at Loomis and Germantown, I taught English Lit I/III, Contemporary Literature, 10th grade grammar and expository writing seminars, Literature of the Sea, Experimental Novel, and Creative Writing. At Wash U, I taught Fiction Writing I, II, and Microfiction, and last year I facilitated pedagogy training for Wash U MFA graduate students. I currently tutor at DU's Writing Center and, beginning this fall, I will teach undergraduate fiction classes. I have a marked interest in modern and contemporary fiction, though I very much look forward to helping students with all craft/literature/essay writing/verbal test taking endeavors.

So, I continued by education by obtaining a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). Through this process, I began teaching English to international college students in Australia, and my spark for teaching was ignited.Upon leaving Australia, I moved to Hanoi, Vietnam to put my teaching skills to practice. There, I worked for both public elementary schools, after-school English centers, and private classes. I had the privilege to teach students of all ages - from as young as five years old to adults. I loved teaching children because of their enthusiasm for learning and excitement about learning a new language. We played lots of games together to develop their skills and tried to have as much fun as possible while learning. I also loved teaching the adults. The commitment to learning I saw in adults was inspiring, and it was great to be able to have conversations with one another and get to know each other throughout our lessons.After leaving Vietnam, I moved to Denver, CO in 2018 to start a job as an English Language Development (ELD) Specialist at a Denver high school, where I taught for 2 years. I worked with students from 9th-11th grade solely on ELD. I have taught an ELD pull-out class at this school, where students with lower-level English proficiency are placed in a class together to explicitly learn the English language. Additionally, I co-taught English Language Arts classes. I worked with an ELA co-teacher who deals mostly with content-related English topics such as literature, themes, and character development, while I as the ELD Specialist supported emergent bilingual students in accessing the content by giving them English language assistance. Our school was awarded the ELPA Award of Excellence for the 2019-2020 school year for the exceptional support provided to bilingual students. Also, as part of my job here, I worked to teach students test-taking strategies for the Writing and Language and the Reading tests on the SAT. We worked through these skills weekly in ELA class, and I also was a teacher for our school's SAT Bootcamp. Additionally, I was part of this school's CH-ISA team, which monitors every emergent bilingual at the school and their growth.During COVID, I chose to expand my teaching experiences into the virtual realm of education.
