I am most passionate about nursing and nurses. I was very fortunate to have had the benefit of older nurses and nurse practitioners teaching me. I look forward to opportunities to do the same for people becoming nurses and NPs.

I'm not helping you, I'm either with my family, hitting the gym, or working as an Nurse Practitioner in an Urgent Care. Let's crush your goals together!
I am a Doctor of Nursing Practice and graduated first in my class from Valparaiso University, where I also earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I worked at the university tutoring international graduate students in Health Assessment, which is where I first gained my love of teaching. Together we created a fun and supportive environment, and I still keep in touch with these students. My favorite subjects address health disparities and at-risk populations. I started an LGBTQ+ education program for nursing students to increase cultural competence for this patient population. I am also a co-author for an award-winning textbook on nursing research. I know that nursing students have to contend with a steep learning curve, high standards, and the emotional burden that comes with caring for patients. I find joy in helping students mitigate this by cultivating their excitement and interest in the field. I believe that students who own their knowledge become better caregivers with better patient outcomes. I tutor in medicine as well as professional exams including NCLEX, ANCC, and AANP. My objective as an educator is to take overwhelming information and make it manageable, memorable, and personalized. I employ an adaptable teaching style utilizing a variety of strategies to help students comprehend and retain information. I foster growth in my students, helping them identify big-picture patterns to focus their studies. Health care is always evolving, and I hope that my students will go into this field inspired to keep learning. When I am not teaching or writing I enjoy nature walks and anything creative, including singing, learning various instruments, and working on whatever art project has currently caught my interest.
I am a graduate of D'Youville University. I received my Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner. Since graduation, I have worked as a Hospitalist and now I am working for various hospitals, clinics and the government as an independent contractor. While I tutor nursing and nurse practitioner students, I am most passionate about mentoring new RN's and health care providers (NP's and PA's). I also specialize in tutoring students who have not been successful in passing their NCLEX or ANCC. My goal is to relieve as much stress for my mentees while they're transitioning into their new role. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling around the world and exploring new small business ventures.
As a dedicated and compassionate nurse practitioner, I have always been driven by a passion for helping others achieve their goalswhether in health or education. With years of experience in the healthcare field, I have developed strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills that translate seamlessly into a tutoring environment. My background in nursing has equipped me with the patience, adaptability, and attention to detail necessary to guide students in their learning journey. Throughout my career, I have mentored nursing students and new healthcare professionals, helping them grasp complex medical concepts and develop critical thinking skills. I take pride in breaking down challenging topics into manageable pieces, fostering an engaging and supportive learning atmosphere tailored to each individual's needs. My goal as a tutor is to empower students by building their confidence and providing them with the tools they need to succeed academically and professionally. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute my expertise to Varsity Tutors and to support students in achieving their academic and career aspirations. I believe that education is a powerful tool for personal and professional growth, and I am committed to making a positive impact through personalized instruction and mentorship.
Learning is a life-long opportunity; it does not require a classroom. Everyone you meet in life knows something that you do not ~ listen and learn from each of them.
I am a master prepared nurse with a certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I have acquired over 26 years of experience in the medical field, which has provided me with a wealth of understanding of my role as a provider or nurse, medicine and laws that govern the practice. I have also received certification as a Holistic Health Practitioner and have an in depth understanding of various sciences. Since my childhood, I have developed a proficiency in all subjects and have mastered taking tests. I have a love for learning, but more importantly, I have a passion for teaching. My memory is sharp and I have successfully taught students how to recall information and apply knowledge. I am especially good at remembering numbers. I have acquired certification in early childhood development as well, and couple that with my understanding of the growth and developmental stages. As I merge my experiences and knowledge, I am able to instruct any age group efficiently. I understand that the key to imparting knowledge is assessing how each individual learns best. I develop creative platforms to teach and use relatable modalities to make sure that personal educational goals are met for each student.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am very passionate about helping students feel more confident and excited about math. In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.

Frequently Asked Questions
The pharmacology and drug interaction sections consistently challenge FNP candidates because they require both memorization and clinical application—understanding not just what a drug does, but how it interacts with comorbidities and other medications. Additionally, the advanced assessment and diagnostic reasoning questions test your ability to synthesize complex patient presentations, which is harder to master through passive study. Cardiovascular and endocrine management also trip up many candidates because these systems have overlapping presentations and require nuanced differential diagnosis skills that benefit from guided practice and real-world case analysis.
The ANCC FNP exam uses case-based, scenario-heavy questions that require higher-order thinking beyond recall—you need to analyze patient data, prioritize interventions, and justify clinical decisions. This is fundamentally different from content-heavy exams because it rewards deep understanding of pathophysiology and clinical reasoning over memorization. Personalized tutoring helps you shift from "knowing facts" to "thinking like an FNP," which means working through complex cases, identifying red flags, and practicing how to narrow differential diagnoses systematically rather than studying isolated topics.
Many candidates struggle with gaps in advanced pathophysiology, particularly around disease mechanisms and how they manifest clinically—this directly impacts your ability to answer diagnostic reasoning questions. Weak foundational knowledge in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics also creates a ripple effect, making drug interaction questions and medication management scenarios much harder. A tutor with FNP expertise can quickly identify these specific gaps and target them before diving into full exam prep, saving you time and building confidence in areas that underpin multiple exam domains.
The best FNP tutors are board-certified Family Nurse Practitioners with active clinical experience—they understand not just the exam content, but how it translates to real-world practice, which helps them explain why concepts matter and how to apply them. They should have proven success coaching other FNP candidates and be deeply familiar with the ANCC exam format, common pitfalls, and high-yield content areas. Ideally, they stay current with ANCC exam updates and can teach both the clinical reasoning skills and test-taking strategies that separate passing scores from strong performances.
Clinical reasoning on the ANCC FNP exam requires you to systematically evaluate patient presentations, rule in and rule out diagnoses, and justify your clinical decisions—skills that are hard to develop through self-study. A tutor walks you through complex cases using frameworks like "red flags first, then narrow differentials," helping you build consistent patterns for approaching unfamiliar scenarios. Through guided practice with real exam-style questions, you learn to think through the "why" behind each answer choice, which trains your brain to recognize similar patterns on test day and make confident clinical decisions under pressure.
These questions go beyond knowing normal vs. abnormal findings—they require you to connect subtle assessment findings to underlying pathophysiology and determine their clinical significance. For example, a question might describe a heart murmur and ask you to identify the underlying cardiac condition and its management implications, combining assessment skills with diagnostic reasoning. Tutoring helps you build a mental framework for assessment interpretation by linking findings to disease mechanisms, practicing how to prioritize abnormal findings, and understanding which findings are red flags versus incidental findings that don't change management.
Most FNP candidates benefit from 3-6 months of focused preparation, though this varies based on your clinical experience and knowledge gaps. Tutoring accelerates this timeline by helping you identify and target weak areas efficiently rather than spending months reviewing content you already know well. A tutor can also help you create a structured study schedule, prioritize high-yield content, and build in regular practice testing with feedback—keeping you on track and preventing the common pitfall of studying broadly without building the clinical reasoning skills the exam actually tests.
Effective practice involves more than just answering questions—it requires analyzing why you chose an answer, why it was right or wrong, and what clinical concept it tested. Many candidates rush through questions, missing the opportunity to build deeper understanding and identify patterns in their reasoning. A tutor helps you develop a deliberate practice strategy: working through questions at a slower pace initially to build reasoning skills, then increasing speed and complexity, and using incorrect answers as a diagnostic tool to reveal knowledge gaps or flawed thinking patterns that need correction before test day.
