Hello from The City of Brotherly Love! I am excited to meet you and start our learning journey together. When you choose to work with me, I see our time together as a mutual learning experience. We are in this together! While I may be the subject matter expert, the key to our success is that I am learning right along with you. While my primary efforts are focused on addressing whatever it is that challenges you, I will always see you as so much more than that. I want to learn about who you are as a whole; a unique person with their own style, strengths, and interests. As a result, I will create personalized lessons that address the whole of you. The results will go beyond grades or test scores. When you allow yourself to learn how you learn best, you can build the strategies and tools to support how you learn, regardless of subject or setting. I am passionate about what I do but it starts with you. If you are ready for this, then I am in this with you. Here is a little about my professional experience and areas of expertise:I am an innovative, research-obsessed, action-oriented educator with twenty years of experience working in a variety of roles, and settings, and with students from all backgrounds and ability levels. My areas of expertise include:- Structured Literacy (decoding and encoding)- The Five Pillars of Reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension/reading for meaning- Universal Design for Learning- Brain-based Learning- The ability to make learning accessible, effective, and meaningful for ALL, regardless of ability level- Using a student's strengths and interests as a vehicle for addressing challenges- Executive Functioning Skills- Self-Awareness, Self-Determination, and Self-Advocacy skills

I am a current freshman at Columbia University and a prospective physics and mathematics major. In high school, I was a founding member of Local Outreach Tutoring (LOT), a program dedicated to tutoring Bronx middle school students for the New York City Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT). I continued in the program and became the head math teacher, responsible for leading a class of over 25 students. I believe standardized testing unjustly favors those with the resources for extensive test prep. Thus, it was all the more rewarding to work with students who, otherwise, would not have had as much access to such services. I have also privately tutored high school students in physics, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. Besides tutoring, I frequently write and perform stand-up comedy and am a staff writer for Columbia's satire paper.

Before moving to Florida, I graduated from McDaniel College with a Master's Degree in Deaf Education. I have worked with deaf students (ranging from elementary to middle school, both with and without mental disabilities) at a deaf school in Pennsylvania. In addition, I provided manipulatives and hands-on activities in order to assist my deaf students with lessons they were struggling with, and volunteered to tutor struggling students at home. Currently, I hold a Florida certification in Deaf Education. I also love teaching elementary math and grammar at the third-grade level or below, and American Sign Language for students aged 10 and up. Sign language is very fun to learn and use, no matter what your age may be.My favorite subject is math because people use math every day, from everything from money and measurements to time. I love to enable students to think of different ways to calculate addition, subtraction, and multiplication, and to consider writing those equations in multiple ways. In all of these subjects, my students develop their skills over time and improve their mastery of math on a daily basis. As I value students' education, I believe in a student-centered style of teaching--partly because students love to take ownership of their own learning, but also because putting students in control of their education enables them to remember information readily. Through this approach, they develop thinking skills by doing tasks independently or in small groups. They are also given hands-on activities and computer games to pick up new ideas, adding to their prior knowledge. Those activities help motivate students to become more engaged in the learning process. As a result, I believe that ownership over their education helps students develop and master skills.I believe it is also essential to help deaf students think and answer questions independently. By asking questions and letting them answer as best as they can, I am able to ascertain exactly how much they understand and have learned. I like using various manipulatives, such as board and computer games, in order to better develop the skills of motivated but struggling students. After American Sign Language (ASL) sessions, I also like to have hearing students practice ASL at home, using computer programs and websites like ASLpro.com. I will engage them in natural conversation at home, beginning with simple signs until they have learned enough to work on more complex ones.

I am a graduate of the University of Florida and the Thurgood Marshall School of Law Texas Southern University. As an undergraduate, I majored in History, focusing on African History, and in law school, I focused on legal writing and analysis.I value the importance of good quality education as I'm a living testimony of how it can open doors of incredible opportunity in life.Since graduation, I have worked as a legal professional covering multiple areas of law and as a public-school teacher. I decided to make the unusual transition from law to teaching because I felt called to make more of a meaningful impact on the lives of others. Sure enough, I discovered my gift and passion in education as I inspired and empowered students in the classroomencouraging them to become the best they could be despite their shortcomings in the past.My love for teaching revealed a whole new world and helped me to realize that I had always been an influential teacher in one form or another. For example, in high school, I commonly taught and tutored my peers who had a tough time digesting the information as delivered by the teacher. I discovered that I had a particular ability to make complicated concepts relatable and, therefore, easier to understand.I believe that a real teacher (one called to teach) fundamentally can teach anything. Therefore, I teach and tutor a wide range of subjects. However, I especially enjoy History, English, and the Social Sciences. Also, my legal education has significantly assisted in my ability to teach, among other types, persuasive writing, critical thinking, and reading comprehension.

Hello, I am Eun hwa Choi.I am a graduate of Stony Brook University. My major is mathematics. I have experience working as a tutor at Queens Borough Community College. I have experience teaching students statistics, algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus 1 and 2. All subjects must have a solid foundation, but especially in mathematics, unless the basics are solid, you cannot move to the next level. If you don't fully understand algebra, you can't solve more difficult problems than algebra such as trigonometric functions and calculus. We help students who want to build a solid foundation. It also assists students preparing for the ACT exam. Mathematics is a very interesting subject.

I am currently working as an Environmental Educator through SCA at Watkins Glen State Park in NYS. I graduated from Eastern University with honors, earning my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Environmental Science and a focus in animal conservation. Since I graduated I have worked in the Adirondacks in NYS working with injured animals, at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in PA studying the migration of birds of prey, and for Conservation Corps in Iowa studying the migration of the Northern Long Eared bat. My diverse work experience and public interactions allows me to connect with a range of people with different backgrounds and needs.I am intrigued by all realms of science, but have a special affinity to wildlife biology. It is immensely satisfying for me as a tutor when I am able to help a student connect all of their basic knowledge of science to understand more complex branches. I strongly believe that in order for a student to do well in a subject, they have to connect with it on a personal level. It therefore is my philosophy to help students to see how their studies can be integrated to solve much bigger questions.I am a very energetic person and am excited about helping students of all levels reach their fullest potential. In my spare time, I enjoy things that keep me active like hiking, soccer, and volleyball, as well as things like reading and art projects that help me relax.

When I teach, I begin with the premise that anybody is capable of learning anything. From there, I learn as much as I can about what is being asked of the student, what the student wants to accomplish, what his or her unique learning style is, and what his or her parents want their child to achieve. Then, through a focused Socratic exchange, I work with the student to discover and utilize the intellectual abilities they've always possessed yet haven't fully explored, guiding them confidently to their personal and academic goals in a way that leaves the student invigorated and motivated to succeed.I am never happier than when I am teaching. Whether it's helping a student through a difficult literary passage, reviewing the importance of grammar and mechanics, revising a writing assignment, or discussing philosophy, helping students achieve their dreams is always an uplifting and inspiring experience. But aside from the personal satisfaction I feel when I teach, I always ensure that my student comes away from a session a more confident, inquisitive, patient, articulate, and motivated individual whose will to learn and to achieve has grown beyond what he or she thought possible.
