Having successfully passed seven AP tests as a student, I was able to help them prepare for the most challenging content in the classes and on the AP tests. I was also able to share ACT test strategies and content knowledge from my own experience that helped me achieve a 35 cumulative score and qualify as a national merit scholar on the PSAT. During college, I also had the opportunity to volunteer my time with high school students who were internationally adopted or in foster care while awaiting immigration proceedings. Working with students who were learning math, science, and other subjects in their second language became a passion that drove me to switch career paths and become a teacher in a public school. I speak conversational French and Spanish which has given me such an appreciation for the patience and grace of native speakers willing to help me. This has framed my entire approach to education as science often feels like a foreign language to students who are not yet fluent. With patience, exposure, and practice, I believe every student can be successful at even the most challenging science concepts. Now I teach high school chemistry and AP chemistry, but I'm also certified in and have taught high school biology and physical science. My favorite part of teaching chemistry is the moment of satisfaction students experience when they have struggled and overcome a difficult task. I continued my education at Columbia University and received Master of Arts in Biology. Starting in middle school and continuing through my graduate career, I have tutored students in a wide variety of subjects, but I was most effective at tutoring math and science because of my lifelong love and aptitude for these subjects. Since I am also working towards a career in molecular biology, I use math and science every day, and I can explain real-world applications and uses for these subjects that may not seem obvious. Often a required subject for other classes, chemistry is often considered "the central science" as it's related to biology and physics, and I appreciate that chemical principles can be observed throughout daily life from cooking to medicine to electronics. I've tutored middle school, high school, and college students in math (Algebra I & II, Geometry, Calculus I-II) and science (Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry). I have the most experience with and enjoy teaching Algebra I & II and Chemistry though. I grew up as a athlete myself (figure skater) and so am aware of the strenuous schedule student athletes have and work to be as flexible as I can with my own schedule so that I can accommodate these students.

Seeing how they reacted to my assistance reminded me why I applied for the position in the first place and motivates me to help students learn more every single day.
