Algebra Tutoring review by Laura in Wrigleyville, IL
The student and I focused on studying friction this afternoon, because she needs help with a physics project. Most of the project is online research and writing, which plays to her strengths. She made considerable progress during the session. I left her with a much more specific plan for online research and writing, which I think she is brave enough to do.

Algebra Tutoring review by Arina in Wrigleyville, IL
The student and I focused on topics for her upcoming quiz, primarily discussing function shifts in algebraic and graphical form. We did several examples of each type of question that could come up on the quiz, and we worked on the review and some of the homework. She understands this topic fairly well in algebraic form, and she was firing off answers readily by the end of the tutoring session. We are also going to work on finding a learning method that will work for her, to make sure she can work on the homework in a timely fashion and be prepared for upcoming exams. I definitely saw great progress in this session; she is on a good track!

Algebra Tutoring review by Martin in Wrigleyville, IL
The student and I had a productive session on Thursday evening. She had a large homework packet to complete on equations of circles and coordinate geometry. She seemed quite confused about how to do the problems initially, but we got through all of the problems, and she seemed to be much more comfortable with the material by the end. We reviewed the basic equation of a circle as well as how to rearrange an equation and use the "completing the square" technique to get an equation into the standard form equation for a circle. At the end of the session, we did a bonus challenge problem on lines and circle area. I believe that she should be caught up on the material at this point. I am planning to see her again next Thursday evening at the same time and will look forward to it!

Algebra Tutoring review by Margaret in Wrigleyville, IL
The student and I had a really long and deep conversation about her math program, which is experimental and based on students teaching each other with what's called "focus lessons." She's not a fan under any circumstances, but she is actually getting quite a good grasp on the material! The problem comes in her confidence on test day; she feels like she doesn't know what she needs to know and it's very frustrating and stressful for her. We're putting together some strategies for next year, and going over what she's learned this year so far to make sure there aren't any holes.

Algebra Tutoring review by Rhonda in Wrigleyville, IL
The student and I looked over her homework assignment, finding equations using slope and given points. We used both standard form and slope-intercept form. She did very well on this assignment.

Algebra Tutoring review by Matthew in Wrigleyville, IL
The student and I plowed through her review packet for Wednesday's quiz, addressing all the problems that she had questions about. Our focus was on the large number of word problems, so I went over my strategy for systematically breaking these down to correctly answer the questions. We also spent some time on problems involving solving algebraic equations with variables on both sides. She seemed quite ready to take this quiz by the time I left and has another day to review.
