Hello, my name is Nitya Haswani. I am a first year mechanical engineering student and I'm excited to be a tutor. I've had a lot of prior experience tutoring- especially high schoolers- and I hope I can help students learn and find gratification in understanding new/complex subjects at any grade/level.

I am an elementary school instructor who enjoys going to school every day and seeing the eager faces of my students. I entered the teaching profession to give back to the community that I have come to love, and to share my passion for learning with its young residents. The gradual release model of teaching (I do/we do/you do) has served me well in working with elementary and middle school students.I earned my Bachelor's Degree from University of North Carolina (Film Studies/Creative Writing), and later became a Certified Educator in the state of Texas. I am certified to teach Core Subjects to grades EC-6; English/Language Arts and Social Studies to grades 4-8, and; Theater Arts to grades EC-12. As an experienced actress, my favorite subject to teach is English/Language Arts as I am an expressive person, and I enjoy writing.When I am not teaching, you will either find me viewing a new movie, taking a road trip, or baking special treats for my loved ones.

Before graduating college, people would tell me to "prepare for the real world." This confused me- I thought that's what years of education was supposed to do! I quickly understood what they meant.My whole life I've been a good student. I've taken challenging courses, studied, and tried my best. But getting good grades isn't the only thing that matters in life: it's applying intelligence to every situation that will carry you through life.This is what I teach and believe: how to use what you learn to help you succeed. I open minds, guiding people to think creatively, critically, and independently.

I've also attended Tuskegee University and Georgia State University within the 5 years of my study. While completing my undergraduate degree, I worked part time as a teacher's assistant at a nearby linguistics school. Overall, it was a great experience and it also taught me a lot. I also have a younger sister who is 14 years old whom I help with homework often. My absolute favorite subject since I was a child is English (reading and writing). I fell in love with books as a child and the love still exists as an adult. I am a yoga instructor in between time and I also own an online fashion boutique. You can catch me at my local park reading, writing poetry, and preparing yoga sequences.

I am a rising junior at Columbia University and am working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (with a focus in International Politics and American Politics) and History. For the past several years, I have volunteered as an English as a second language (ESL) tutor for adult immigrants, assisted high school students with college essay supplements, and most recently tutored Spanish, History, and English to underprivileged Latinx students in the Bronx. Drawing on each of these experiences, I am most passionate about tutoring Spanish and essay writing. I am half-Salvadorian and love connecting with Spanish culture especially by communicating and speaking the language with others. Regarding essay writing, I enjoy raising questions about texts, analyzing themes, and assessing authors' decisions whether that be sentence structure, character development, or plot twists. My teaching philosophy revolves around listening, patience, creating opportunities for students to ask questions, and sharing my own experiences related to academia with students. I am most eager to help students on this platform because I desire to work with students one-on-one and serve as a catalyst for their personal growth and achievement of their goals. I am currently employed as a full time French instructor with a Charter School in the Metro Atlanta area.
