I am a graduate of San Francisco State University's Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing, and I received my Bachelor's degree in Literature at Texas A&M University. I've tutored students of different ages and backgrounds for several years. I focus primarily on the reading and writing portions of standardized tests, as well as English school subjects. The subjects I enjoy teaching most are test prep, essay writing, and literary analysisperfect for any junior or senior preparing for college. No matter where you're at as a reader and writer, you will come away from my tutoring sessions with an appreciation for close reading and confidence about the writing process. I break down even the trickiest concepts clearly and methodically with targeted practice in the areas where you need it most. Most importantly, I'll make our classes fun. Outside of tutoring, I'm writing a novel and raising an Australian Labradoodle puppy. I enjoy woodworking, rock climbing, yoga, video games, and reading pretty much whenever I can.

My love for working with students began when I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I originally wanted to become a nutritionist, but during my freshman year, I started volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. They had a tutoring program that I joined and worked with elementary students 1:1 and in small groups. It was here that I discovered my passion for working with and teaching students. I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a degree in Elementary Education. Soon after, I moved to California where I taught kindergarten for two years and 2nd grade for four years. During this time, I also worked with a non-profit called Generations United where I was the after school teacher coordinator and tutored students from kindergarten to fifth grade. I also have a Master's degree in Educational Administration from San Francisco State University. In my 7th year of education, I was an Assistant Principal. In this role, I spent a lot of time subbing in classrooms ranging from pre-school to 8th grade. I'm experienced working with elementary and middle school students. I have taught all subjects at the elementary school level. My passion is for students to realize their potential and believe that they "can do it". Students are capable when they are motivated to learn. I believe in using a lot of visuals to help students learn and modeling so students can understand a concept better.

As an enthusiastic lifelong learner with a B.S. in Biology from Colorado State University, I have over 2 years of teaching experience in both classroom and tutoring settings. My passion and highest qualification lies in Biology, but I am also qualified and do enjoy teaching English, focusing on reading comprehension and essay writing. I thrive on facilitating those "aha!" moments for students, guiding them toward a deeper understanding of the material. My teaching philosophy, "Stay Curious," reflects my belief in fostering a love for inquiry and exploration in my students. I approach tutoring with empathy, drawing from my own experiences with learning disabilities, to tailor my methods to meet individual needs. I am dedicated to making learning accessible and enjoyable, and I'm flexible with my availability to accommodate diverse schedules.
Hello! My name is Mya. I'm a current graduate student at the University of San Francisco, completing my Master's degree in Public Administration and Health Services. I'm a Bay Area native and enjoy meeting new people. I love traveling and learning about new cultures and helping others. I've struggled throughout my academics and always tried to reach out to my resources and wanted to give back by providing help to others.
I am a graduate of San Francisco State University, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Radio and Television with a focus in audio production and recording. After working in the radio industry for several years, I went back to school and earned my teaching credential in mathematics. In my six years teaching in San Francisco, I have worked with every age group and just about every setting, from traditional public and private school classrooms, to night school, to summer school and extensive individual tutoring. What I enjoy most about working with students in achieving their goals is not only mastering the mathematical concepts, but watching their levels of confidence grow and attitudes about their abilities change. These kinds of shifts in attitude and confidence are not limited to the way a student looks at math, but extend to every aspect of their life. A student's belief in their own capabilities can change everything. When I am not teaching, I can usually be found with a book, in the presence of music, traveling, or doing all three simultaneously.
I grew up in Germany during the cold war as the son of a US Army Officer; I had to always think fast on my feet, forge relationships with people quickly and always be positive and believe we would be safe and prevail. So I found I love to work with people, speak in front of groups, educate and lead.I sold Real Estate in Los Angeles/Orange County, California before returning to the Chicago area. I have spent several years now in Leadership Roles (coaching and managing Agents and offices) and also Teaching Real Estate Licensing. I have been licensed by the State of Illinois since 2017 to teach Real Estate pre-licensing classes.Today my main focus is to lead, coach and support Real Estate Agents and other sales professionals to grow their business, and in turn, their personal lives. Just remember how important growth is: "You are either getting better, or you are getting worse. You never stay the same!"

I have been an elementary teacher for 7 years in several grade levels. I enjoy teaching all areas but especially love math and reading. These are passions of mine, and you can often find me reading my own books whenever I have time. I believe that a positive environment is the key to learning. When students are happy, safe, and enjoying their tasks, they acquire new information much more quickly and easily. It is my mission to always create this environment with my students and those I tutor. I have experience tutoring both elementary and middle school students in all subjects and have done this privately for many years. When I am not teaching you can find me reading, hiking, running, or playing with my son.
Adversity and struggle build character. I have become who I am today because of the challenges I have overcome through my childhood and adult life. These challenges helped shape my morals, goals, aspirations and beliefs.A personal turning point was my experience immigrating to America. It changed me as a person. As a sixteen year old teenager with no knowledge of the English language, the unfamiliar environment was both a frightening and motivating experience for me. Without any similarly situated peers or any formal ESL program, I had to learn English on my own both to succeed in school and to overcome the social ostracism that accompanies difference. Today I am more appreciative of the challenges that our multicultural society presents to those on its fringes. I want to ensure that its virtues are shared by all and I look forward to using my heightened cultural awareness in my chosen career as a physician. Having been born in Iran and visiting a variety of countries, I have experienced the fascinating diversity that is our world. Thus, I have learned how important it is to place one's self in the position of others in order to understand their experiences. This awareness has allowed me to relate to a wide variety of people and to serve my prospective patients more empathetically. From an early age, I had a passion for the medical profession, a passion for science and preventative care. This passion led me to explore the field of dentistry. I began by interning as a dental assistant at the office of Dr. Abar. Working alongside Dr. Abar further solidified my passion for dental school and familiarized me with the day-to-day work of a dentist. The internship was a great assurance that dentistry would be a great fit for me. I learned that to succeed and be a great dentist and provide the best care for patients, a dentist must truly and genuinely love his/her profession. The internship further helped expose me to the daily job activities of a dentist thus enabling me to further ensure that this was a suitable career for me. I feel privileged and grateful for having had this experience since it allowed me to find out my true calling in life and confirmed for me that dentistry is the best profession in line with my aspirations and interests.I transferred to SFSU and joined the SFSU pre-dental society. As a member of the pre-dental society, I volunteered as a dental assistant at the Student-Run Free Dental Clinic Project. With the help of volunteer health professionals, the clinics offered services to the underserved and homeless community of San Francisco. Volunteering at the clinics helped me understand clinic operations and raised my awareness of community needs, and the work needed to address those needs. My experiences have made me certain that dentistry is the best choice for me. From moving to a foreign country by myself to my fortunate professional and volunteering work that instilled and reinforced my caring and compassion for others what I learned was that I have what it takes to succeed in being a great dentist. My experiences and exposure to different cultures from around the world have prepared me to be more than just a dentist that treats dental decay, but one that cares for the well-being of everyone regardless of socio-economic or ethnic backgrounds. I strive to give back to those around me and to be a servant of my community. Every door I have opened in my life so far has led me to the conclusion that I want to become a dentist. I feel that a career in dentistry would allow me to combine my interests in healthcare with my passion to be a compassionate caregiver. Now, as I stand poised to open the next door, I am eagerly anticipating what is on the other side. I am certain that I can bring promise and perseverance, a commitment to serving those in need of my care and an unrelenting passion for learning, and that these characteristics will lead me to my goal of being a successful professional, and more importantly, a passionate member of the professional community as well as the society as a whole.
