I'm a rising senior at UC Berkeley, majoring in Chemical Biology and minoring in French. As a lifelong scientist, I've always brought forth a curiosity and drive for knowledge in everything I do. Some of my earliest memories are of exploring the Boston Science Museum as a toddler, where I would spend hours upon hours running from exhibit to exhibit and playing at each interactive station. It is this very same curiosity which I hope to instill in my peers. Trust me, I know that learning about integrals, doing titrations, or reading "Moby Dick" isn't always going to be fun. But there is something innately and remarkably satisfying about LEARNING.It's the same sense of accomplishment and joy that you get when you drop a few seconds off your 5k PR. When you finally play your recital piece at full-tempo. When all the time and effort that you poured into something pays off. It's a form of self-improvement that is tangible and rewarding in it of itself. It is my pleasure and sincere goal to bring this joy of learning and pursuit to success to anyone who wants it. I bring to the table my education, my personality, and my enthusiasm because I don't view you as a customer, but as a fellow student and a fellow human being. With my help, I can make learning more enjoyable, more effective, and more efficient.

Hello! My name is Aaron -- UC Berkeley alumni currently working as a documentation specialist at an engineering firm. Throughout my education, I've realized that the classes I enjoyed the most weren't necessarily because of the subject matter, rather it was the professors and teachers who taught these classes. They made difficult concepts engaging and manageable for me. I hope that as a tutor I can channel that same energy and facilitate a learning experience that is engaging and manageable for you. I have a 6 years of experience tutoring and teaching in both a formal and informal setting. Throughout my undergraduate, I've taught and tutored a variety of subjects to high school all the way to grad school level students. Specifically, I have facilitated review sessions for college level chemistry and biology courses and held weekly seminars to help students edit and write about a variety of topics from biology to philosophy. My background is in biology and philosophy, so I am rather flexible in what I can teach. If you can put in the work, I can certainly help you improve and even achieve A-level work.
I am a book author and cultural anthropologist with college classroom teaching experience in the social sciences. I have helped academics and college and graduate students with essays, theses and papers with a focus on bringing out their strongest ideas and making their writing accessible and clear to the reader. I have experience working with people whose first language is not English and recently helped turn papers that had been rejected for publication into articles published in the best journals in their field.I enjoy empowering students to do their best work by breaking down the work of writing into achievable steps. It's exciting to help them discover and bring to light the ideas that are often buried in their notes and thoughts.
I'm currently a major at U.C. Berkeley living in Orlando, FL since my university went online. I love the diversity in thought patterns I see among my students and hope for the chance to puzzle out your brain with you. I've worked as a private tutor for three years and currently attend U.C. Berkeley. I'm a junior majoring in Cognitive Science and minoring in Computer Science, which keeps me sharp in a lot of academic areas. I believe learning and playing your strengths is crucial to any academic pursuit and prioritize patience above all.
I studied computer science and statistics in college. Since late high school I have had a regular teaching commitment, whether it was helping younger students prepare for standardized tests or TA'ing for college courses. I can tutor very effectively across a variety of math, computer science, and statistics subjects, but am most passionate and have the most 1-on-1 experience in probability and statistics and test prep. I believe that anyone with a good amount of motivation can learn what they desire to a high level with the correct help, and I find the experience of providing that help very rewarding and actively seek opportunities to do so.
I am a recent graduate from the University of California, Berkeley. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature. My focus was English and Russian Language and Literature. While at Berkeley I began tutoring ESL students in English grammar and essay writing. Since graduation I completed my TEFL certification and worked as an English teacher in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong I became familiar with the SSAT, and tutored several students of different levels. I have worked with students of all different ages and learning levels, and my goal has been to help them communicate themselves in written and spoken English. This has included teaching them academic, creative, and personal writing. The ability to write in a clear and engaging style is crucial to any student's success, even if the last creative essay they write is their personal statement for a college application. So few schools teach this skill, and even fewer teachers have the time to give students the individual attention that they need. I enjoy working with students who are learning to express themselves through writing, whether they need help with English grammar, literature analysis, or personal style.
I enjoy helping students reach their academic and personal goals. My background is in economics, social sciences, and technology.I hope to help students improve their grades and test scores.
I was a high school teacher for two years before returning to graduate school to study American Politics at NYU. I love supporting and engaging students in content, and giving them the skills they need to feel competent, powerful, and insightful.
I Tutor Elementary School students at a place called Making a Difference for Inc. I've tutored for the past seven months and I am ecstatic with the academic progress made by my students. All of my students were struggling with D averages in math, reading and writing. However, that has all changed and they are all thriving with B's and A's. I am pleased to announce that I've successfully published my book of poetry "Angst in Prose" alluded to in my personal statement. My book is self-published and I have global marketing through major retailers.
My mission: to make learning the material as easy, quick, and interesting as possible. My approach: connecting class theory to real-world examples and applications. My experience: 13 years of tutoring in math and sciences, writing, SAT prep, Spanish, economics, environmental sciences, and more.Several years of laboratory research with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. I like training future scientists! My passion: inspiring curiosity and confidence in my students. My background: biology laboratory research involving plants, bacteria, and genetics. My degrees: Bachelors in Molecular Biology (UC Berkeley), Bachelors in Economics (UC Berkeley), Masters in Microbiology (North Carolina State University)My goal: for you to surpass me in the subject we explore together.
With an MBA, a Masters certificate from UCLA, and a BA in Applied Math from UC Berkeley, you would be correct in guessing I enjoy numbers, analysis and the hard sciences. I think I've enjoyed learning how to connect those to the softer skills, applying new ways to make teaching or convincing in these fields easier for others, whether students or business professionals. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Statistics, Calculus, Chemistry & Physics, along with investments/economics. I have greatly enjoyed working with all sorts of students, from students struggling to prepare for standardized tests to the bogged down, overworked no-time-left for the quiz tomorrow as well as the hyper-excelling, curious about advancing overachievers -- there really is something to learn at all times, and that isn't for the student to learn from the teacher, but also the reverse. I believe in making any topic, as necessary or obligatory as it may be, connected enough to something else that you may more likely come across in your day-to-day life. Or demonstrate an importance to simply be curious and how enriching learning can be. In my spare time, I enjoy reading (mostly historical fiction/business, but fiction has made its way to the Kindle of late), playing with our samoyed dog, and when the sun's out, a bit of golf. Hope to meet you soon.
I have been tutoring for the past 7 years, and have experience tutoring students from K-12, ranging in topics from school homework to admissions exams (SAT, ACT)
I am studying Chemical Biology in UC Berkeley. One of my passions is Organic Chemistry, which I used to loath but now enjoys after taking a year of it. Also, because I like helping others, I enjoys tutoring/teaching students who are struggling. During high school, I have tutored other high students after school on various subjects such as Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Latin. During college, I have held informal review sessions for General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry for my underclassmen. I tutored my roommate and one of my underclassmen in Organic Chemistry. Finally, with a Graduate Student TA, I co-taught a Organic Chemistry Lab class section , where I answer questions regarding lab material and demonstrate lab techniques. Currently, I am interested in tutoring Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, and CalculusThere are three things I love about tutoring. First, tutoring allows me to solidify my mastery on the material I teach, as I believe one can learn more by explaining concepts to other people. This leads to the second thing l love, which is that tutoring helps me to practice my ability to explain concepts in a concise, easy-to-understand manner without leaving behind important details. Finally, I enjoy tutoring because the experience of helping others itself is fulfilling to me.
Hi! I'm Vinitha. I have a B.S. in Biology from UC San Diego and a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from UC Berkeley. I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential and recognize that students have diverse needs in the classroom. I am excited to help you achieve your academic goals!
I am a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and Duke University. I received my Bachelor's degree in History and my Master's degree in Religious Studies. Since graduation I have tutored students in American History and Biblical Hebrew, which were exceedingly rewarding experiences. I am especially passionate in helping students learn to think critically, and enjoy the process of learning. While I tutor a variety of subjects, I am most enthusiastic about tutoring in History and Writing because these subjects utilize skills that students will use and cultivate throughout their lives and are applicable for many careers. I would describe my teaching philosophy as hands on and project-based learning. I strive to include fun and relevant videos, songs, and activities into my curriculum to ensure the engagement of my students. Outside of academia I like painting, baking, hiking, photography, and having game nights with friends.
I recently retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District after a 30 year career in which I worked as a teacher, counselor and school principal. (I am a youthful 55 years old.) I have a Bachelors degree in English from the University of California at Berkeley, a Masters degree in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California, as well as California credentials in teaching, school counseling and school administration. My interest in tutoring is to help students reach their goals as expediently as possible while making the tutoring sessions an enjoyable experience for the student. I attempt to establish a positive rapport with the student as quickly as possible in which the student feels understood, accepted and liked. If the student is comfortable with the tutor, the focus can be entirely on the subject matter. I use humor whenever possible. My interests outside of tutoring include daily exercise and writing. I am currently taking a course in playwriting.
You may be new to tutoring, but I have been teaching and tutoring college and high school students for several years and would love to work with you on topics such as politics, government, American history, legal studies, critical thinking skills, and writing academic papers and personal statements. I have also tutored students learning English as a second language. We can work out a way to learn that is comfortable for you. Learn new ways of thinking, improve your analytic abilities and master new and current academic subjects.
I am currently a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Business Administration. Since 10th grade, I've taken part in tutoring students from underserved areas in STEM-related subjects. Working with non-profits in my area, I was able to help numerous elementary, middle, and high school students learn the fundamentals of science. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about math and computer science. Helping students learn the abstract concepts found in math and computer science have been very rewarding and quite fun. I believe that education is for everyone and that anyone who puts in enough effort can reap the rewards and satisfaction of not only getting a problem right on an exam but develop a lifelong love for learning. Aside from school, I played soccer nearly all of my life and am a HUGE soccer fan. I also love reading about the latest and greatest tech and love to play the newest video games.
I am happy to work with students on all manner of writing and reading comprehension needs. This includes preparation for placement tests as well as less formal work to simply gain skills and (hopefully!) imbue a love and respect for the language arts in the process. I have a B.A. in English from U.C. Berkeley, but also have advanced degrees in International Museum Studies and Forced Migration. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Geography.
I believe all students have the ability to succeed and I enjoy offering support and guidance to remove barriers to academic success. I believe when students can be excited, hopeful and creative, they can thrive. I look forward to working with you!I have an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Connecticut College and a Masters in Social Work from the University of California at Berkeley.I've enjoyed working with students in a variety of capacities. During undergrad I worked with kindergarten students for two years in a local elementary school.During my AmeriCorps program I tutored and mentored middle school students in reading and writing and at an environmental camp.I worked with high school students at the Institute for Community Research.I taught English at the Boston School of Modern Languages to children through adults.Additionally I worked for 3 years as a Community School Coordinator in two elementary schools. One of my tasks was coordinating and organizing two tutoring programs.I enjoy writing and supporting students in their own writing, whether it is a creative writing assignment for school or a college application essay. I have published short articles, poetry and a book chapter. I also have proofreading and editing experience.Additionally I am excited to support students in reading comprehension. Reading was something I became excited about early on in life and I love to support students in increasing their comprehension and enjoyment.
I graduated with a BA from UC Berkeley in 2020 as a double major in Astrophysics and Classical Civilizations. My main areas of interest in those studies were planetary science and Greek-language literature, respectively. I'm passionate about both STEM subjects and the humanities, and love helping students translate their strengths in one area to another.I tutor in a broad range of subjects, but would especially love to help you learn more about Latin, English, and astronomy, because those were my favorite subjects in school. I'd also love to help you with prepping for any section of the ACT or SAT, because I remember how stressful those tests were, and want to help you feel as confident and calm as you can while you get ready for them.
I'm a graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle where I received my MFA in Acting from the School of Drama. I did myundergraduate work in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.Since relocating to Manhattan from the West Coast, I've had the great fortune to teach in a variety of settings-- from privatetutoring, to lead teaching at ESL Language Schools, to leading literacy-based theater residencies in the public school system. My earliestteaching experiences were in college-level English and ESL-- I'm a CELTA-certified ESL teacher, and have always been passionate aboutlanguage and literacy. In recent years, however, I've also been working more and more on privately tutoring Language Arts, Humanities, and Test Prep (SAT, AP, TOEFL) with students at the middle and high school level. I love the challenge of tailoring my lessons to an individual student's needs, and the rewarding process of helping a student find the specific approach and skill set that works for him or her. I thinkit's vitally important to give my students the skills they need to go on and work independently-- so I look at tutoring as partof the developmental process that will have lasting, tangible results. As a parallel to my teaching work, I'm an actor and playwright. In my spare time I love exploring new neighborhoods, traveling, cooking(and eating!) and watching movies.
I am currently a 2nd Year Master of International Affairs Candidate at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs. I enjoy teaching subjects such as French, English, Writing, and Math.
I am an empathetic, patient, results-oriented tutor with 10 years of experience working with all age groups. As a UC Berkeley grad, I have taught in NYC public schools, and have led private tutoring sessions in various subjects. I am always available to answer any questions the student may have post-sessions.I come from a long line of educators (two grandparents and both my parents!). From them I have learned the importance of building the student up, to always instill confidence in his or her own abilities through guidance and one-on-one practice. This is my philosophy as a tutor and I'm proud to say that it has proven to be successful time and again. I'm looking forward to meeting you and achieving solid results together!
I have 12 years experience tutoring students for test prep and academic subjects. My number one goal in tutoring is understanding and not correct answers. When students miss questions, I explain step-by-step the concept(s) behind the question before explaining the steps to answering the question itself. Even for questions that my students answered correctly, I ask students to explain to me why their chosen answer choices are correct - and often they are unable to do so, which provides the opportunity to expand understanding. At the end of every tutoring session, I do a recap - categorizing the types of mistakes they made and giving suggestions for strengthening those areas of weakness.
Hi, I'm Andrew! I am currently a sophomore at University of California, Berkeley but have lived in New Jersey prior to college. I graduated from Biotechnology High School and have first-hand experience with K-12 education in New Jersey. I realized that even though the schooling system in New Jersey is great, it may not give you an idea of what you want to pursue after you finish high school. I personally felt this after attending twelve years of schooling and still do not have a perfect idea of my goal in my undergraduate career. As a tutor, I aim to help students not only improve their academic skills and grades but also grasp a better understanding of their future aspirations in college.Regarding my experience, I have worked as a teacher and private tutor for K-12 students at JEI Learning Center. I created a system of reflective teaching that worked on reinforcing both known concepts and shaky areas with repetition and practice. In addition, I have experience working one-on-one with students at disadvantaged positions in order to increase confidence and decrease chances of future risky decisions through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Currently, I am a teaching assistant in San Francisco where I help elementary school students with homework and afternoon activities. My overall goal is to act as a positive influence for youth to ensure personal and intellectual success. Because I am still a student myself, I understand how essential extra practice is and know that teachers may not always go over concepts clearly the first time. I want to help the students prepare any issues beforehand by going over schoolwork, homework, and extra practice questions. I am easy to contact and will always respond quickly so feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!Prealgebra, Algebra 1, Trigonometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, SAT MathI am eager to teach and look forward to scheduling a lesson with you!
I have have had an enjoyable time teaching math the last 7 years after a 40 year absence in that position. I have worked with students for most of my life. I went from being in college/university and a Director of Events, to Senior Director of Admissions.
I received an MFA from Harvard, a double BA from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating Summa Cum Laude at both schools. At Harvard I studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater/Moscow Art Theater Institute, and at Cal I studied English as well as Theater & Performance Studies, receiving scholarships in both departments, including the Departmental Citation (highest honor) for my honors thesis and production of Poet Laureate Robert Hass's "Time and Materials".As a tutor, I have worked for six years helping students with all SAT sections as well as English language and writing skills. I spent several years working as a Writing tutor at UC Berkeley's Student Learning Center, where I helped both long-term and drop-in college students with all sorts of writing help, including essays (literary, scientific, critical, sociological), applications and admissions statements, and creative writing. My last year there, I served as Senior Tutor, engaging with other tutors and mentoring new tutors to discuss and enact unique teaching pedagogies. In addition to the SAT and Writing, I tutor PSAT, basic Spanish, AP English, College Essays, voice and speech, Grammar, and Reading Comprehension. I love tutoring! It is hard to pick a favorite subject, but I have a special place in my heart for the art of writing - the sharing of a story, the power of an argument, or the creation of a world from a special perspective. I have worked with kids in 3rd and 4th grade through middle school, high school students (academic and pre-college focuses), and adults of all ages learning English, working on speech, or developing Reading and Writing skills. Additionally, I am fluent in Spanish and have tutored Spanish speakers.I firmly believe that students are not mere vessels for knowledge, but rather human beings with individual goals, hopes, and dreams. These are integral to their academic and pre-college work, since excellent work derives from one's sense of self, motivation, and experience. To this end, I always engage with students as collaborators. I work with them to develop "Sarah's SAT Prep Plan" or "Mike's Writing Workshop", as opposed to just a general course of study meant for anyone. Identifying specific problems and moving toward strong goals, I make sure students achieve changes that they can understand and internalize. Improvement is wonderful, but if students also know WHY a skill or approach is important, they will keep it with them for life. The artist's life is my bread and butter. I am a TV, film, and stage actor, and piano, trumpet, and guitar-player, and longtime creative writer. In regards to writing, nothing has been more educational and fulfilling than having my work published and produced. I used to run track and cross-country, but I am a little rusty these days. I like ballroom dancing, reciting Shakespeare, discussing films and plays, writing musical theatre, and singing. I enjoy good food, especially pasta, "Mad Men" (really, anything vintage), and New York City! As a tutor, I look forward to sharing my passion for life and learning with you!
I am a University of California, Berkeley graduate with over 7 years of tutoring experience in English and Math (through Algebra) for students in grades KG through college.Professionally, I have recently worked for the California Department of Public Health as part of the Affordable Care Act ('Obamacare'), and an international Oil & Gas company, for which I was posted in Jakarta, Indonesia.I am passionate about helping students increase their proficiency and confidence in subjects in which they previously struggled.I am excited to meet you, and help you increase your academic proficiency! Let's learn while having fun! :)
I have recently moved to New York City and I am currently working for a healthcare start-up company! I love it! Mentoring and helping other students with their goals and learning is always something I have had a passion for. Currently, I am taking my last class UC Berkeley remotely. When I finish I will have a degree in Business Administration and Finance. I have always tutored a wide range of academic subjects. I enjoy teaching math, SAT, English, reading, and business.I look forward to working with you and hope to hear from you soon!
I have ph.d. in physics and finishing up ph.d. in math so I am good in both subjects.Back when I was learning those subjects, I was puzzled for a long time about various things that the books didn't seem to explain and I was really excited when I finally answered my own questions. It has been a daydream of mine to write my own textbook where all the material is presented differently and all those questions are answered from the outset. While in practice I don't have time to actually write my own book, I do have various ideas on how to teach the material differently and I am excited to see this help students.
For almost ten years now I've been teaching students of all ages, from across the globe, about everything from Ancient Rome to particle physics. Driven by a passion for discovery, and a desire to pass that love of learning on to others, I first began working with students as a Museum Educator at a local history museum, making the world of nineteenth century America come alive for visitors. In high school, I worked as a teaching assistant in a number of science and world history courses, providing support for both honors and remedial students to give them the tools they needed to succeed. As an undergraduate, I continued to pursue my passion for education, volunteering to teach local high school students in my free time and also serving as an undergraduate tutor for my residential college, where I provided assistance with everything from GRE prep to essay-writing.In May 2020 I graduated magna cum laude from UC Berkeley, having earned degrees in both History and Classics. I spent much of my senior year traveling around Europe and the United States, conducting research at archaeological sites such as Pompeii, Ostia, and Nimes, and working in archives at Princeton, Harvard, and Stanford in preparation for the completion of senior theses on cultural change in the Roman empire and on undergraduate Latin pedagogy, respectively. During my undergraduate years, I also worked as a research assistant in a number of different laboratories, studying ancient ceramics, medieval manuscripts, and Roman iconography, and spent a summer excavating the villa of the Roman emperor Hadrian with Columbia University.I intend to eventually pursue a PhD in Ancient History, but until then I look forward to tutoring with Varsity!
I am from Santa Monica, California where I attended Santa Monica High School. I attended the University of California at Berkeley for four years obtaining my undergraduate degree in Integrative Biology with departmental honors. I attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine in the PhD program for Physiology.I played baseball and football in high school, club baseball and intramural flag football during my time at Berkeley. I stay active now riding my bike/jogging in Cherokee park in the Highlands of Louisville. I'd like to get back into practicing yoga some time soon.I completed coursework in the Physiology PhD program, maintaining a 4.0+ GPA. My academic specialties are Biology, Physiology, Cell Biology, Biostatistics and am proficient in mathematics including Calculus I, Algebra I and II.Post grad I have continued my education in the fields of accounting and taxation through UC Berkeley's online extension program. I have recently passed all three levels of the special enrollment exam (SEE) and applied for the Enrolled Agent designation through the IRS - status is 'in review'.
I am an undergraduate student entering my third year at the University of California, Berkeley. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Statistics. Since I was a sophomore in high school, I've tutored several students in various subjects; this includes my time tutoring high school peers and underclassmen as a member of my high school's Math Honors Society and helping elementary schoolers with fundamental mathematical concepts as an IMACS Teaching Assistant. While I'm comfortable teaching a wide range of subjects, I love mathematics the most (e.g. Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics). I also have a lot of experience with the SAT and SAT Subject Tests, so I would be comfortable helping students in this way as well. As a longtime member of TASSEL (an organization dedicated to helping underprivileged Cambodian children via English education), I understand how valuable education is not only for individuals but for society as a whole, and I hope to play a part in helping people this way. In my free time, I love to play basketball, spend time with family and friends, and watch the NBA and NFL.
Hello! I am a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelors degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology. During my four years of college, I guided K-12 students of the Oakland area in Language Arts and Mathematics and served as a mentor for many high school students. I have also been an undergraduate student instructor for the General Biology lab course offered at U.C. Berkeley, a prerequisite for students wishing to pursue Biology as a major. Since I have a wide range of teaching experiences in both academic subjects and test preparation, I am highly adaptable to different learning styles and cater my teaching methods to meet student needs. Apart from being flexible, I am also very accessible for additional questions or help that is needed. In my spare time, I enjoy baking, exploring my city and watching movies.
I approach each tutoring job with the question, “What needs to happen for this particular student to understand this material.” Having taught undergraduates at U.C. Berkeley and middle- and high-school students at the Treasure Island Boys and Girls Club in San Francisco, I have experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds and I know that every one is unique. Further, my goal as a tutor is not merely to impart information, but to guide the student through the learning process so that they can master the subject matter themselves. This requires a highly personalized approach. First, I identify the specific areas where the student needs help, then I craft exercises tailored to the student’s particular learning style. I also find multiple modes – oral, written, kinetic, etc. – through which the student can engage the material and deepen their understanding.
Hello! My name is William, and I am a P.h.D. student at Columbia in Mechanical Engineering. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a mechanical engineering major and a math minor. When I was helping my sister study for the SAT math section, I realized I loved teaching. It gave me a better understanding of the material I enjoyed, and it was fascinating to see her gain skills and knowledge.Furthermore, I have experience teaching through my involvement in the 3D printing club and camp at Gaston Day School. I started the club in high school and acted as their president for a few years. Over the summer, I was a counselor for high schoolers looking to learn more about additive manufacturing. I helped write the curriculum for this camp and teach the material. Being in college upper division mathematics, I also have extensive experience studying in groups. It is often the case in group learning that you must take on the role of the teacher to explain things to your peers and the part of the student when you don't understand something yourself. This means that I have experience on both sides of the teaching equation. During these times, as a camp counselor, an SAT/ACT tutor, and a study group member, I learned to teach effectively.I am experienced in tutoring ACT and SAT math. I can teach shortcuts and strategies to succeed on these tests. I also received my mathematics minor at UC Berkeley to help with higher levels of math like calculus and linear algebra. I can also help with physics since I earned an A+ in Physics 7A and 7B at UC Berkeley. My mission is to help with homework or test prep by facilitating an understanding of the material and, hopefully, to have fun along the way. If you would like to work with me, let me know, and I would be happy to help!Sincerely,Will
When I first entered college as a chemistry major at UC Berkeley, my interest in this subject was spurred by cool demonstrations with explosive fireball and vibrant colors. Over the past eleven years and a student and researcher, my passion for chemistry has grown and I can appreciate not only the fun aspects in the laboratory and classroom, but how chemical principles undergird all of life and nature, allowing me to see what I've learned at work around me in the world. A deep knowledge of the principles of chemistry have granted me the ability to see beauty in the world and in everyday life, from baking delicious cookies to walking through serene forest groves. Chemistry has also opened up the door to understanding biology and the workings of cells and life itself. Regardless of whether someone desires to pursue chemistry as a course of study as I have, my desire as a teacher of chemistry is to impress on everyone how even an elementary understanding of chemistry can brighten up the world around us.
I grew up in Sacramento and attended elementary, middle, and high school in the area. I am familiar with many of the schools in the area and would love to help local students succeed in their classes. I worked with students from under-resourced schools in the past, through a program called Breakthrough Sacramento, teaching Cell Biology to 7th graders. I have experience working with students individually as a Tutor. I have tutored students in grades 3-12 and lead study groups with my college peers at U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Davis.I did not have the opportunity to have a tutor myself, which made me realize how great an advantage it is to have that kind of support and resource. I am dedicated to helping students succeed in their courses as well as gain an understanding of the concepts and material. It is not enough to simply do well. I want students to first have a desire to learn. I want them to understand the material enough to be able to do well on their own, and to help teach it to others. It is only then when they can accurately and confidently teach the material to someone else that they have truly acquired knowledge and a thorough understanding.Working with students on a one-on-one basis allows me to explore different teaching and learning methods. I myself am an auditory and visual learner; however, I realize that there are many kinds of learners. Therefore, I plan to adjust methods in order to cater to the needs of the student.I am currently applying for medical school. I am a caring person and it is my hope that I will be able to learn and grow together with my clients.
As a teacher, my mission has always been to make scientific knowledge accessible to ALL students, and help them see why it's worth the effort to pursue. I've been a high school physics teacher for the past 15 years, and also a strong advocate for equity in science education. I received my undergraduate degree in Physics from Amherst College, and later a masters degree in Science and Math Education from UC Berkeley. While I've always had an interest in science, I've come to see myself as someone who teaches *people* rather than *science*. That is, I really enjoy helping students become more confident & independent learners, critical thinkers, and problem solvers. I feel honored to be a part of any students' growth. :)
