I'm a high school math teacher. I hold a BA in pure mathematics and an MA in applied mathematics. I've been teaching for 10 years. My aim is really to help lower the anxiety students feel while taking a math class. I ascribe to the philosophy of Mathematical Mindset, the belief that good math will cause people to struggle (a little) and that people's brains grow when they struggle. I want to show students that math is not something to fear or dislike. I don't believe in rote memorization of formulas - I teach to provide students with conceptual understanding so they see the "why" instead of just "how," they can see how math topics build on each other, and that they develop their number sense.I love playing sports, particularly baseball, volleyball, tennis, basketball. I participate in the performing arts where I sing, dance, and act. I also play the piano (moderately well). One of my biggest passions is my love for table top board games and role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons.

I tutored kids as a part-time job after I finished college. Then I went on to teach middle and high school classes as a Teach for America teacher for a couple of months. After completing two Master degrees in business and bioscience, I worked as a product manager in the medical device industry for the past 10+ years. My kids are now four and six, and I decided to take some time to be a stay-at-home mom to be more involved in their lives. Taking on tutoring jobs during my free time gives me the opportunity to interact and help others, which I really enjoy.
Hi there! I am fully bilingual in Spanish and English. I am a certified high school Spanish teacher, although I've taught every age from preschool to college level in Spanish. I really love the language and helping students reach their potential. I look forward to working with you!
I recently received a PhD in the History of Consciousness program at the University of California Santa Cruz. This renowned interdisciplinary program is concentrated in the humanities while corresponding with other disciplines such as social science, physical science, and the arts. My academic work culminates in a dissertation in which I explore the effects of historical circumstances on cultural production and the ways that the surface features reflected in books, cinema, and art, illuminate the historical process itself. I have taught a variety of undergraduate classes including history, literature and film studies. I have also designed and taught upper division undergraduate seminars and Creative Writing as an instructor of record. My teaching ethos is to guide students toward a comprehensive understanding of the subject through discussion, close readings of texts, and the development of students' writing. My focus on writing, both analytical and creative, is grounded in the recognition that it is through the writing process itself that one comes to a clearer and more integrated understanding of the world. One of the most rewarding experiences as an instructor is to see a student's writing improve and create a pathway toward a proficient and nuanced understanding of a subject. The diversity of undergraduate students I have taught has been inspirational in providing me with a range of skills to better recognize a student's specific aptitudes and thereby develop and amplify their work in both an academic setting and in life in general. I have also traveled extensively which has allowed me to further hone my ability to communicate in various cultural contexts with people who have life experiences different from my own.
As your tutor, I aim to create thoughtful, innovative and exciting lessons, which support my students as individuals. I am very motivated, hardworking and dependable, and I get a real sense of purpose from helping my students to achieve the best possible grades.
