I am a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis with a B.A.S. in Evolution, Ecology, and Biodiversity and Psychology. I love doing research with animals, which is why I interned in several projects during my stay at UCD. Besides my love for nature, I also enjoy math. Currently, I'm working on a Master's program in Library and Information Science, but I am also a recent graduate of UC Davis where I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with an emphasis on Medieval and Early Modern European History. I love learning and teaching history of all kinds, but I am also available to tutor many other subjects from Math and English to SAT and GRE preparation. While I do not have much formal experience in tutoring, I was a peer tutor throughout high school. Also, as the oldest sibling, it fell to me to help my younger brother and sister through the difficult times in their studies, so I have plenty of experience helping students find the right way to learn the skills and information they need for school. As you may have guessed from my interest in libraries, I love reading. Mostly I read fiction, but also some non-fiction when I find a particular book that sparks my interest. I've been teaching or tutoring in some form or another since 2004. I've tutored with nonprofit organizations such as Urban Youth Impact and Reading Partners, served as an instructor in the military overseas and as a contractor for a Fortune 500 company, and worked as a teacher in the California public school system. Through this variety of experiences, I've worked with many great educators and students, and found that everyone has a teaching and learning style that works best for them, and the key is finding a match. For myself, the most important attributes in my teaching ability are passion, patience, and perception. Bringing life to the material with creativity and insight kindles and a greater interest in the learner. Having the patience to follow the plan of execution helps the student feel at ease and puts them in a better mindset for success. Perception is crucial for understanding how a student can maximize their abilities, and which method of learning works best for them.

I am a retired high school teacher. I have taught all levels (9-12 grade), and all aspects of English. No matter what I taught or when I taught it, I have always enjoyed the student-teacher connection more than any other part of teaching.I am especially good at helping with writing no matter the writer's level. Working on writing is a chance to also work on grammar, punctuation, organization, including outlining, and finally writing the paper. If a student learns this process, they can write a response for any situation.Once the process is learned then writing for other classes, all the way from a short answer to a research paper, becomes so much easier! After graduation and entering the work world, knowing how to write a response is a crucial tool. Since graduating with my PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of California, Davis in 2009, I have spent 7 years as a community college physics professor. As a community college graduate myself, I understand the challenges facing students and I am a passionate teacher. I am currently taking a year in Cambridge to complete a Master's degree in the Harvard Graduate School of Education to further improve my skills. As a tutor, physics is my favorite topic, but I am also enthusiastic about math as well as GRE test prep.
