I will never forget my fifth grade teacher. My fifth grade teacher was cool, easy to talk to, and inspired all of his students to aim for the stars. He drove me to challenge myself each and every day; andto learn from every situation that is presented before us. He showed me that education can be extremely fun and exciting!I was one of many misguided students who saw him as the coolest teacher in the world. One could not wish for a greater role model. If I could connect with one student in my years of tutoring as my fifth grade teacher once did, it would all be worthwhile! The young and eager minds of students have once been compared to me like the seeds of a tree. We must nourish and foster their dreams to allow them to grow and flourish!

I attended California State University Fullerton (CSUF) where I earned both of my Bachelors of Arts degrees in Psychology and in Women and Gender Studies. I graduated with highest honors, Summa Cum Laude. I continued my education at CSUF, where I am working toward my Master of Arts in Psychology. My teaching experience includes multiple teaching/graduate assistant positions, tutoring, and teaching at a local private school. As a teaching assistant and graduate assistant at CSUF, I created assignments, conducted lectures in class, and held teaching workshops with college students. I also held a position tutoring Statistics for undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Sociology. Last year, I taught middle and high school math and science at a local private high school.I am a math and social science tutor. I tutor in the following subjects: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I/II/College, Geometry, Arithmetic, Statistics (including AP and college level), Psychology, and Sociology. I believe I am a particularly effective Statistics instructor, as I excelled in advanced Statistics courses in the Department of Psychology, including Advanced and Multivariate Statistics. I also absolutely love teaching statistics because it offers us a way to turn real life phenomena into numbers that we can understand around the world. I also love teaching my subject area, Psychology, and ultimately would love to make a career of it.As a tutor, I apply psychological and educational concepts about learning. I always use positive reinforcement, consider different learning styles (i.e. visual, audio, etc.), and aim to keep students engaged by using real life examples that they can connect to. Learning requires engagement and I try to make math concepts more reachable for all students.Outside of school and teaching, I enjoy cooking, reading, catching up on television series, and enjoying the outdoors. Originally from San Diego, I am a loyal Chargers fan and love being close enough to my friends and family there.

Hello there! My name is Katie and I just moved to Austin to pursue my teaching career. I just received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in California and I am in the process of transferring it to a Texas Credential. I would describe myself as patient, motivated and enthusiastic- especially when it comes to learning!I am a teacher who inspires my students to be successful by creating a genuine interest in the given subject matter. Students thrive when they are able to make meaningful and personal connections to the curriculum. In order to create a genuine interest in the subject matter, I consistently create interesting a relevant real-life examples. While using fresh and fun examples, I break down subject matter into "bite sized" pieces that build on each other. By breaking down the material, information is much easier for students to digest. This strategy has been particularly successful for my students in the past! While I have had a lot of success in school, I did not always start out that way. I struggled with math in elementary school until I had a tutor who broke down the material for me and made it fun, accessible and engaging. Not only did that tutor peak my interest in learning, she inspired me to overcome my academic challenges. It did not happen over night, but over time I gained so much confidence when I began to understand my learning style and figure out what worked best for ME. My former struggles help me relate better to students who are having difficulties meeting their goals. It has instilled a lot of patience and compassion for the learning process. I know what it feels like to face academic challenges and I am proof that simple yet effective strategies can help a student reach their full potential. I believe it is possible for any student to achieve their learning goals as long as they have the right tools and support to get there. As I tutor my clients I do not just teach, I listen. This helps me understand the best learning styles and approaches for my students. My goal is to make learning fun, accessible and engaging in a way that makes sense to YOU! I am always open to new ideas and feedback every step of the way.

I enjoy the one-on-one tutoring sessions because it provides a safe environment to learn. I break the sessions into small learning increments to motivate and engage the student. I believe this teaching strategy encourages independent learning and students want to come back to the next session.

I started tutoring in 2006 when I was appointed as a Math/Science Tutor by Cypress College. I enjoyed the experience so much that I sought out other tutoring engagements and was afforded the opportunity to be an SI leader at Cal State Fullerton when I transferred. I continue to tutor because I believe that knowledge is meant to be shared and what better way to do so than by tutoring! I've been trained and certified by both Cypress College and CSU Fullerton in tutoring techniques as well as supplemental instruction methodology. Therefore, I am well versed not only in the subject matter but the means in which to communicate it. My goal is to ensure that each student who comes to me for assistance is able to self-study and problem-solve independently in a short amount of time

I have had the opportunity to work with a broadrange of individuals, fromchildren to adults. For example, in the course ofteaching one semester (Sixth-grade) while at St. Helen's Catholic School (Southgate, CA) in theLos Angeles, California area, I had the opportunity to interact withchildren ofmanyethnic backgrounds. Later on Iworked for Professional Tutors of America asan Academic Tutor (Yorba Linda, CA). I was also employed by a local tutoring center, more specifically, The Enrichment Center II (La Habra, CA), to mentiona few of the positions whichI have held within the education sector. I am hoping to tutor abroad rangeof individuals. It is my feeling, that one must offer a student choices, versus dictates or commandments, in terms of what they must or must not do, within the context of the learning environment. The student will thereby become more motivated to learn, his or her own, respective subject matter at hand. An instructor should anticipate great things from all of his students, irrespective of a student's talents and abilities. Each student should be treated as an individual, since each learner engages in learning, in his or her own, individual manner. A cookie-cutter approach to teaching, should be eschewed. Finally, learning should be deemed a lifelong pursuit; it should be my role as an academic tutor/educator, to ignite a greater measure of passion, for learning, within the hearts of my students, both present and future.

Hello! My name is Thomas, and I am an assistant principal at an Orlando elementary charter school. I love teaching; it gives me great satisfaction when I can help students achieve their academic goals. For over 7 years, I travelled from house to house tutoring middle and high school students in math, language arts, science, social studies, history, geography, biology, chemistry, ACT, etc. That was a lot of miles for my 2005 Kia to handle! The car has since retired, but I have not.How can I help you? I can definitely help you with almost any content you need to master, but more importantly, I can TEACH YOU TO IDENTIFY THE STRATEGIES YOU NEED TO DO WELL IN A CLASS OR SIMPLY GET THE EXAM, ESSAY OR ACT/SAT SCORE YOU WANT. Memorization will only get you so far. I help you strategically think about questions so that you answer them correctly even if you don't remember exactly what the facts are. Whatever the middle, high school or (in some cases) college subject you are finding difficult, this approach is going to help you. My goal is to make you not need a tutor as soon as possible.Just a little about me: I lived in Madrid, Spain for ten years, where I was the director of a language academy and oversaw English, French, German and Spanish classes. When I moved back to the USA, I became certified in Special Education. Since then, I have been taught or co-taught the subjects mentioned above or in my profile. As a tutor, I saw the need to adapt classes to the strengths of my students. This is what I will continue to do with my online students - you, I hope!
