I am a graduate of Oakland City University in Indiana and Trevecca University in Nashville, Tennessee. I have a passion for teaching English as a Second Language to immigrants of all ages. I also have taught all the subjects in elementary school and enjoy working with students at that level. I believe that every student can learn and make progress. Learning can be fun and definitely should not be boring. I taught in the Little Kids Rock guitar program for several years and enjoy using music, especially with younger students. Sometimes a song can be just the thing to move students along in learning a concept.

I love to see people grow in their confidence with any subject. The journey there requires work & focus, but it is all worth it in the end! I love school and I love learning. I hope to share my passion with every student I encounter and I promise to do my best in helping them succeed.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California, Riverside and a dual Master of Arts in English and Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Chapman University in Orange, California. In between studies, I began my experience as a tutor for the "No Child Left Behind" program tutoring students K-8 in Reading and Language Arts in order to help them improve study habits and standardized test scores in a one-on-one setting.Upon entering graduate school at Chapman University, I began working as an English tutor for the writing center on campus. I worked one-on-one with undergraduates and graduate students of various majors in order to ensure their writing assignments (short and long papers, theses, resumes, and personal statements) were following the given prompts.I tutor any category related to the field of EnglishReading, Writing (both academic and creative), Literature, and Language Arts. My favorite subject to tutor is writing because my belief, from personal experience, is that fostering a strong and confident authorial voice is of the utmost importance for a student and it becomes applicable to all career choices one might make. In my spare time, my hobbies tend to include things that continue to foster my own authorial voice and those around me writing music and poetry, publishing a literary zine, reading leisurely, and watching films.

Hi! I'm Leah! I've been a teacher for 11 years now and have taught in both California and Connecticut. I have experience with 1st through 6th grade. I went to school at Chapman University a small private school in Southern California. I received my Bachelor's degree in Political Science but decided the law wasn't for me and went back and got my teaching credential and Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction. I also spent 5 years teaching at the college level through both DeVry University and Westwood College. Most of the classes I taught were for beginning students or computer classes. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and his 2 kids. They are 10 and 12 years old. My husband is currently in the military and this is the 2nd state I have lived in. I like working out by running or going to the gym to lift weights. I also like reading (when I'm not teaching).I'm very straight forward when it comes to my teaching style. I tend to find out what works best for my students and tailor my lessons to best fit their needs. I enjoy finding out what they like to do so I can fit that into my lessons.

This has allowed me to help translate to students how they can use the information they are learning at school in the real world. I have worked with students of all ages and truly love helping students master the basics of their subjects so that they can succeed in their classes.I am most passionate about tutoring math and helping students understand how to break down problems. I work to evaluate their current comprehension and strive to build a strong foundation of knowledge. I often tell my students that math is just like learning another language. Once they learn to master the basics they are able to read and solve problems successfully. I care deeply about my students' success and I strive to make learning fun and relatable to their world.
