I left high school and entered into college full-time when I was only 14, and transferred to a UC campus as a junior by the time I was 17. I received my Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences at UC Merced, and my Masters in Public Administration at Cal State Long Beach. My academic path has been quite unconventional, but it gave me the opportunity familiarize myself with a wide range of subjects. I am currently continuing my education in the medical sector, and volunteer at a local hospital with some of my spare time. I'm very confident in my ability to tutor all subjects, but I am most experienced in tutoring students in math and science. Based on my experience, students tend to learn best when they're taught to understand concepts, rather than being asked to memorize. During my study breaks, I enjoy swimming, bike riding, cooking and, more importantly, eating.

Math and science can be frustrating and intimidating to many people, and my objective is to help you overcome any hurdles your may have in these subjects in order to achieve your academic and career goals.Having received my Bachelors of Science in Physics from California State University, Long Beach, I have a passion for science and math which I love to transmit to other people, whether they be curious laymen, fellow students, or tutees. While earning my degree I had the opportunity of taking part in undergrad research at my university, and the privilege of participating in a student internship program at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. This experience has given me some perspective in appreciating the scope and possibilities in science.But while doing so I have also practiced my other passion--instruction and education in this field and related subjects by working as a tutor for high school students in the subjects of math, science, and in test preparation. I also have experience in a job after graduation as a tutor of university students in college level courses, from remedial math and science classes to more advanced second and third year physics courses.After several years working as a laboratory technician at a fuel cell research and design company, I am returning to this latter passion as I pursue a teaching credential program at the University of Dominguez Hills. In my view, the best approach to teaching is not one that just instructs you in procedures by rote memorization and repetition (although these may be necessary and useful in achieving success), but also one that guides you to acquire the needed tools and critical thinking skills to not only learn the procedures needed for math, science, or standardized tests, but to also hopefully understand the subject sufficiently to develop your own techniques in many different situations, or to possibly apply them in your area your interest.This is achieved by identifying your level of understanding, making sure you know or learn any needed background information, and to also sometimes explain and give you an insight into the motivation for the formulas, techniques or procedures pertaining to the subject at hand, and relating them to different examples and applications in real life in order to make them less abstract. In whichever approach I may take, in the end my aim is to demystify and make these subjects less intimidating to you, since I more than likely have gone through similar frustrations in my education.

I am passionate about Science Education and making science accessible to people of all backgrounds. I have taught seven semesters worth of science classes at California State University, Long Beach. I coached the science section of academic decathlon at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove for two years. This blue collar outlook benefitted me by seeing how a liberal arts education dovetailed into situations that were not strictly academic in nature. The critical thinking skills that were fostered in the classroom would translate out into the living world allow me to converse and engage with various members of the community in meaningful ways.My passion is allow students to see this fluidity between the classroom and real world and help them realize the meaningful nature of the humanities. I am a Microbiology Master's candidate at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) with an expected graduation date of May 2018. I have extensive teaching experience at the college level by working as a Teaching Associate for a Microbiology Lab Course for Health Professional Majors at (CSULB). I was previously employed at California State University, Long Beach as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for General Microbiology lecture and laboratory courses. My master's thesis research in Peter Ramirez's Lab focused on HIV-1 accessory protein interactions with human intrinsic restriction factors and how these factors may also contribute to SARS-CoV-2 virus-like particle infectivity. Currently, I am working towards obtaining a doctorate degree in biomedical science within the Virology and Gene Therapy track at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. With the associated experience and knowledge that comes from earning my Ph.D., I aim to conduct research on emerging viral pathogens and/or antiviral/vaccine development.
