High quality education is my passion! From a young age I attended a gifted and talented Middle School, where compassionate and encouraging teachers nurtured my lifelong love of learning. In High School, I was enrolled in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in addition to multiple AP courses. Thanks to my supportive teachers, classmates and tutors, I was able to graduate High School with a perfect 4.0 GPA as Valedictorian of my 700 person class. All my life, I've wanted to foster that same level of passion for learning to everyone I meet. I graduated Pepperdine University in Southern California with dual degrees in International Business Administration and Economics with a concentration in Finance. I tutored all throughout my university career, working with my college peers as well as high school and middle school students. I especially love to work with students on fundamental math concepts that often get rush through in traditional classroom environments. It's my passion to get my students passionate about math! I have been an undergraduate general chemistry tutor for the past two years. I have also privately tutored middle and high school students in math, specifically in algebra and trigonometry, respectively. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in political science from Hollins University. I had the wonderful opportunity to study in France and spend a semester in London. Finding a positive learning environment where I was able to thrive was a turning point in my life and shifted my career route towards education. Following graduation, I earned a Masters of Arts in Education from Pepperdine University. I also earned CA teaching credentials in Social Science, English, and Multiple Subject (elementary). I have worked with all types of learners as both a secondary English and history teacher but also as a tutor for students in grades 5-12. I am most passionate about giving students the personalized educational experience they need and deserve. I teach most history subjects, English, writing, and study skills. I am at my best working with struggling learners who need to build the skills necessary to become lifelong learners. I believe each student has the capacity to learn. Often the struggles students have stem from a lack of academic literacy and executive functioning skills. These can develop overtime while working through school content. I overseeing curricula for a national group of secondary schools and am currently seeking a Doctorate of Education-Learning Technologies at Pepperdine University. When I am not working or studying, I enjoy exploring the city, traveling, seeing friends, and attending theatre productions.

Hey I'm Jake and I'm a junior studying Finance and Applied Math at Pepperdine University! I've been doing private tutoring for over six years now and have taught all kinds of topics on all different levels of math, from Algebra to AP Calculus BC. Since graduation, I have worked for U.S. Bank as an anti-money laundering investigator and tutored students both remotely and in person. However, my favorite subject to tutor would be public speaking. Most people hate speaking in front of a crowd, and I used to count myself among them. What changed was that I realized no one wanted me to fail.
