I have been an undergraduate general chemistry tutor for the past two years. I have also privately tutored middle and high school students in math, specifically in algebra and trigonometry, respectively. I believe in the importance of understanding fundamental concepts and skills that can simplify any chemical or math problem. I just completed a PhD in Chemistry at Northwestern University. I started teaching in a Big Brother Big Sister program in Florence, Italy in 2006 and fell in love with sharing my knowledge with others. I was the teaching assistant for several chemistry courses at Pepperdine and Northwestern Universities; as well as being involved in Science in the Classroom demonstrations for 3rd and 4th grades. I am eager to share my love of science with students. I am passionate about science and math at all levels and I am a down-to-earth and compassionate teacher. My tutoring style is adapted to each student to focus on the specific areas of improvement. One size does not fit all, so why teach that way! There is nothing better than seeing a student's eyes light up when problems come together, which is partially why I especially love word problems. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and going to art museums. I also try to attend as many ballets as I possibly can every season.

Having taught in both large and small classrooms from the junior high to university level for over twenty years, I know that the best learning occurs during one-on-one interaction. My favorite educational experiences have always been seeing a particular student have that "ah ha" moment when a challenging concept is mastered or the perfect word is discovered. Whether it's understanding subject matter like vocabulary or grammar or producing written argumentation, students always excel when a tutor addresses the student's particular requirements and skills. That's exactly the advantage I strive to give my pupils.My background in helping student writers is extensive, from teaching creative writing classes to working on everything from junior high papers to college admission essays to doctoral dissertations. Spending ten years at the University of Delaware in the English and Theatre Departments, I developed writing programs as well as taught almost all the subject matter courses the English Department offered. While I have a deep connection to literature (especially from the nineteenth century), I also have a background in technical writing that I picked up through my other obsession, which is performance magic.I enjoy sharing my passion for learning and mastering communication skills with others and am eager to share it with students who are ready to excel.

I'm a current PhD student at Tufts University studying Applied Math, and formerly I attained my Bachelor of Science in Math at Pepperdine University. I have been tutoring math for three and a half years now, including Calculus, Differential Equations, and Algebra. I also have taken and tutored many standardized tests, including AP Calc, A-Level Math/Further Pure Math, and GRE Quantitative Analysis. In addition, as a Chinese native speaker, I'm also tutoring Chinese speaking and writing. Outside of academia, I enjoy playing music and sports. I'm a 2016 graduate of Pepperdine University with my Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. Currently I'm preparing to apply to optometry school; I hope to be accepted for the 2018-19 academic year. During my time in college, I was involved as a teaching assistant for General Chemistry I and II laboratory, as a tutor for General Chemistry I, as a member of the Regents Scholar Student Board, and as a "small group" leader through multiple organizations. My name is Julia and I graduated from Pepperdine University this past spring and am looking to teach and tutor children. I believe the desire to learn is innate in all children and must be fostered at an individual level in a way that can't happen in adult classrooms. Hey I'm Jake and I'm a junior studying Finance and Applied Math at Pepperdine University! I've been doing private tutoring for over six years now and have taught all kinds of topics on all different levels of math, from Algebra to AP Calculus BC. I've seen great success in my own studies and scored perfect scores on the math section for both the SAT and ACT, as well as scoring a perfect 5 on my Calculus BC AP exam.
