I am a graduate of North Park University. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education with a middle school endorsement in Social Science. I currently hold a Professional Educator License. During my time at North Park, I had the privilege of tutoring my peers in Statistics as well as elementary students in reading and writing. Being a teacher candidate allowed me the opportunity to teach various age groups and subjects areas including 3rd and 4th grade English, Literature, and Write, and 6th-8th grade Literature, Social Science, Mathematics, and Test Prep. While I have experience with a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about Mathematics and Literature. Test Prep is also a wonderful time of expanding how students think and a great opportunity for encouragement and fun. I truly believe that helping students acquire the skills to be lifelong learners and helping them to see how education along with their personal interests makes them a valuable asset to society, is the foundation to great teaching. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and trying new things, baking, singing, and reading.

I am a French, Spanish, ESL, and K-8 tutor. I have several years experience as a tutor in an after-school program where I mostly worked one-on-one with students to prepare for the next day's work. I have also spent time in Madagascar where I taught ESL to elementary and middle school aged students. I have been a teacher in several religious settings as well for students of all ages. As a tutor, I want to assist students through the process of learning in a partnership and ongoing relationship. I hope to not just be end-goal oriented, but to really work on the core issues along the way to make future problems more manageable. I have a Master of Divinity degree from Boston University School of Theology. In this degree, I focused primarily on ethics from a variety of societal viewpoints. I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, both from North Park University in Chicago. I will be beginning a Master of Business Administration at Boston University Questrom School of Business very soon.I tutor primarily writing, reading, and a variety of other subjects as needed. As a tutor, I am laid back but ask my students to challenge themselves. I want learning to become part of everyday life, not an obligation. Tutoring writing, in particular, allows me to really see the whole process of thinking for a student. I've been teaching- either in front of a classroom or one on one with individual students- since 2003. Teaching is something I truly enjoy and a part of my life from which I derive a great deal of fulfillment and inspiration.My enthusiasm for teaching is definitely grounded in my passion for learning. Reading, writing, and language learning are three of my favorite pastimes. Through my own learning experience and my time as a teacher I have developed a great respect for the unique learning process of each individual. I've had the opportunity to explore this process through teaching reading classes (which covered everything from basic phonics to university-level study skills and speed reading) to ESL instruction (including conversation, business English and TOEFL test preparation classes), and finally to Mandarin tutoring where I have the opportunity to share my written and spoken Mandarin skills as well as the cultural understanding and experience I gained from having lived in China for over three years. Through these diverse experiences I have taught students between the ages of 4 and 92 from all over the world.Along the way I have also benefited from knowing and having been taught by many great teachers. One of the most lasting lessons I have taken away from them is the importance of a good rapport between teacher and student to the learning process. Through establishing a good rapport with my students I strive to get to know them and gain an understanding of their learning strengths and challenges.One of my strengths as a language tutor definitely comes from the countless hours that I have invested in studying languages- predominantly Mandarin Chinese, but also German and Spanish. The process of successful language acquisition is something that is never far from my mind as I continue to hone my own language skills and plan lessons to best facilitate my students' continued success.While reading, writing, and language studying are three of my favorite pastimes, I also enjoy getting away from my desk to go on long jogs around Chicago, play basketball with my Monday night pick-up crew, and- weather permitting- get my cross-country skis waxed up and hit the trails.

I am a native German speaker who moved to Chicago a year ago to pursue a Psychology degree. Having spent most of my life in Germany, I have taught immigrants German for more than 4 years, as well as tutored American students when I moved to the US. Therefore, I am experienced with teaching different levels of German, and am offering tutoring in German 1-4, AP German language and culture, and conversational German.I feel passionate about learning and teaching new languages as I myself have learned multiple languages (English, Spanish, and Latin) besides my native language. The learning techniques I have gained from that are fundamental parts of my teaching style. I have a Bachelor's of Arts in Economics and Latin American Studies, Magna Cum Laude, from North Park University in Chicago, IL (which I completed in 2008), and a Master's in Economics and Public Policy from Tec de Monterrey in Mexico City, Mexico. I have been working as a tutor and test-prep teacher since the fall of 2006. Since then, I have taught high-school admissions classes and ACT classes, and tutored for the SAT, ACT, high-school admissions exams, and a variety of academic subjects, including math, Spanish, and economics. Through having tutored in a variety of settings and in multiple countries with students from all around the world, I feel very comfortable interacting with a wide variety of backgrounds. I am fluent in Spanish, having studied and spoken the language since 2000, and having lived in Mexico City for two years, completing my master's degree in a program conducted entirely in Spanish. My favorite subject to tutor is mathematics; I love helping students arrive at a solution in the way that's best for them.
