The student has started working on tangent lines and secant lines in geometry. We discussed one of her worksheets for the class. She seemed to do really well on the concept. There was one problem that her teacher has not given them the information on how to do the problem. I walked her through the process. We also discussed her science chemistry concepts for her upcoming test. She is doing really well with this material. She did have a few questions she needed explained a little more but overall understands.

We read the Casks of Amontillado today from Poe. The student enjoyed this story, too. His reading comprehension continues to improve, even though Poe's vocabulary can be a bit archaic for him at times. He easily picks out major themes. I'm still working on getting him to pick out finer points that pull the whole story together. With reading things like Poe and Lovecraft, he's becoming very skilled at identifying techniques writers use to increase the tension and pull the reader in. I'm going to try to find a little bit of a different type of story for him to evaluate some other things aside from just tension. As always, I'm pleased with his progress.

The student and I covered indefinite integrals, u-substitution, setting up work problems, and the power rule. She needed help most with the overall process for evaluating integrals. She seemed optimistic. I encouraged lots of practice so she could build confidence in the material. She now seems to have a better grasp of the process for integrals after seeing it from a new angle.
