Tutoring review by Sheena in Palos Verdes Estates, CA
The student was a math whiz today! We reviewed homework problems she had been challenged by, particularly finding a missing angle and converting between units. We also completed two parts of a practice test. She was on a roll; very focused, motivated, and confident. She felt positive about her English tests last week.

Tutoring review by William in Palos Verdes Estates, CA
I first read and critiqued the last body paragraph and conclusion of an essay the student had completed last week. Following this, I had her read a story and answer questions dealing with the vocabulary in the story, as well as answering basic multiple choice questions about the story content. Finally, we started to look at some famous proverbs that are common place. Here she matched the proverb with the proper explanation.

I covered geometry for this session. The student was struggling with applying the given information and applying the postulates in geometric proofs, but she was excited when she became confident with the material. I helped her to understand how to apply substitution and transitive property, as well as the difference between the two. I saw a great improvement in her understanding of the material today.

Tutoring review by Don in Palos Verdes Estates, CA
The student and I covered distance/ rate/ time problems, percent problems, and problems that require finding the perimeter of a rectangle in terms of its width. Her greatest challenge was seeing relationships involved in distance/ rate/ time problems, but I think we made good progress while working through problems which are set up in differently according to given quantities. By the end of the session she seemed a bit more confident with the problem set up. Her attitude was great!

Tutoring review by Aaron in Palos Verdes Estates, CA
We did some more optics problems. We started with a conceptual Snell's law problem, and then we did a ray diagram problem to verify geometrically the magnification equation. Then, we moved on to a question from a sound lab having to do with the harmonics of the air column in various shapes of bottles (dominant frequency vs. timbre). Then, the student asked me to explain some concepts she will encounter in the next chapter about diffraction, Huygens-Fresnel principle, the double slit experiment, dispersion, etc. As always, she understood easily and took notes for later study.
