Tutoring review by Kalea in Larkspur, CA
Today we worked on calculating sales tax, rebates, discounts, and finding which items were the best value. The student seemed to understand these problems very well after we did a few. Rebates are a little more tricky for her but after practice she seems to understand it better.

Tutoring review by Penny Mae in Larkspur, CA
The student and I set up goals to use for study. HIs attitude to what I presented was excellent. I presented him with pictures he could use to expand his creativity, and he enjoyed it and kept his attention on what we did. The strategies I included in this session were to look at a picture and imagine what a title might be for that book. We followed up with ideas of what would follow. He took home a book for extra practice, and I gave him some copies of the pictures we had worked on at the session. I suggested to his mother that she be less concerned about perfecting his printing at this age and that staying within the lines when he colors is less important than encouraging his imagination and creativity. He is extremely intelligent and is eager to do his best.

We reviewed his homework and how to construct the altitude of triangle using a compass/ straight edge. I met with Student M for honors algebra. We worked on solving multiple step equations with fractions/ decimals and with the variable present on both sides of equation. He completed the homework assignment.

The student and I focused on her writing prompt about Crime and Punishment today. We focused mainly on outlines and brainstorming before we got to writing so that her ideas would flow more easily. I believe she did a really great job and learned valuable skills.

I gave him some tricks on how to apply focal length to the equation. We also went over the differences between vertical and horizontal parabolas. We finished the session reviewing homework problems.
