The student had received a quiz she had missed problems on. The teacher allowed them to correct their quizzes, so the first part of the session we spent making corrections. Then we worked a few more problems similar to the ones she missed. Then we looked over problems from prior sections (triangles, polygons) in preparation of her next quiz. We also worked on proving why two interior angles of a triangle add to the third exterior angle, because that was important to understand and use in her practice problems.

The student and I reviewed concepts of function domains and inequalities in preparation for his quiz Friday. He was very solid on the material, but his understanding broadened and deepened through the session. He has a very intuitive sense of the number line, and we worked with a new method to use it to easily and quickly solve quadratic inequalities. He is a geometric thinker, so we worked very well together. I am excited to keep working with him, as his ability to understand the connections between algebra and geometry will develop into a creative mathematical instinct.

Today, we assessed and reviewed the student's understanding of biological macromolecules in preparation for her upcoming quiz. The lesson was begun by discussing macromolecule concepts broadly and honing into specific concepts in depth. Alongside, worksheets and problem sets were provided so that she can organize learned knowledge, concepts, and skills onto paper for added memorability and for future reference. As the lesson was discussion-centered, we continually exchanged questions, insights, and connections in order to strengthen her understanding of key biological principles as well as applications that would be tested in her course. She performed very well, and we discussed strategies for enhancing her content learning abilities. She also received a 97% on her last exam, an improvement of over 30 points from her previous! She is encouraged to do lots of practice to apply the content learning she has achieved.
