I graduated with an Honors B.S. in Psychology from Michigan State University and my M.A. in Experimental Psychology from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I've taught college courses---Research Methods & Statistics, Intro to Psychology, and Cognitive Psychology---for over 10 years at multiple universities (Wake Forest University, Elon University, and University of North Carolina at Greensboro). One major advantage to having a background in Cognitive Psychology is that it allows me to use research-proven strategies effectively to help students learn. Although I love working with students in any context, my favorite topics are statistics and psychology because I love instilling my passion for those subjects in students. In my spare time, I enjoy Pilates, riding my bike, and spending time with my family.

My name is Mary-Anne Welch. I am a retired elementary education teacher with 25+ years of experience and, for the last six years, a High Impact Literacy Tutor in both private and public schools. The Simple View of Reading Model is the scientific framework that describes two distinct, equally important cognitive skills to learn to read, decoding words and language comprehension equals reading comprehension. To ensure I cover all aspects of learning to read I use various proven curriculum, Heggerty, UFLI (University of Florida Literary Institute), West Virginia Phonics, and Fundations by Wilson Language among other strategies like songs, games, edtech and worksheets. These programs are designed with sequential skill learning lessons and activities along with opportunities for me to progress monitor growth and reteach using a vertical alignment of Phonological Awareness and Phonics along with Reading Comprehension that is necessary at all stages of learning to read. I hold a master's degree in English from Boston College, and I have 5-6 years of tutoring experience, depending on the subject. I also teach college level writing and English.I tutor ESL/ELL, English, Writing, Editing, Grammar and Style, SAT Reading, and Literature. I most enjoy tutoring writing, since that's what I teach, and literature, since that's what I enjoy studying most.My tutoring (and teaching) style is relatively informal, since I like to make sure students are comfortable both with me and the material. Hi, my name is Andrew Cook. I am a College Reading and Learning Association trained and certified Master Tutor, with hundreds of hours spent with dozens of students. My BA is is Theatre with a Minor in Math mostly obtained as a former Engineering Student, so I bring my communication skills and adaptability as a student of theatre with advanced skills and knowledge in mathematics. It is my fundamental belief that everyone is capable of succeeding in math, but too many are written off early (and thus write themselves off) as not having aptitude. It is my goal to bring encouragement and support to students in order to revitalize their appreciation for math, and to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in all manner of academics.

As an experienced educator and tutor for about 10 years, I believe in finding different ways to teach. This includes guiding students on how to think for themselves, while also monitoring their own thinking. I focus on giving power back to the student. A few areas in which I excel include: really getting to know people and their interests, using student interests during lessons, strong problem-solving, general organization, different ways to teach most subjects, and student engagement. My teaching degree is from UNC Greensboro in reading and math for grades 6-9. I also hold a Master's Degree in School Administration that I earned in 2020. In the leadership roles that I have had at my schools, I trained countless teachers in math, reading, writing, speaking, science, and social studies topics in grades K-5 for about 3 years. I have also taught and tutored students in topics ranging from grades K-9.

I am an independent and contributing citizen who has financial independence. That is the primary drive behind my passion for teaching. Rather, what we lack is the skill to weed out noises, lies, and falsehoods from all the information available to us. Knowing this, in my teaching practice, I try my best to inculcate a critical thinking method in my students so that they can achieve lifetime learning on their own. I will teach students how to gather information and evaluate the voracity of it, and how to apply good information to solve a problem. My goal is to help student to internalize information so that it can be elevated to knowledge, which might also be elevated to wisdom if a student knows to integrate information.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with two degrees in Communication Studies and English with a minor in Rhetoric and Public Advocacy. I am also a part of the Phi Beta Kappa honors society. Before attending UNCG, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wake Technical Community College with an Associate of Arts degree. I have won awards for both Public Speaking and Presentation, as well as Writing, specifically in the categories of Creative Writing, Academic Writing, and Personal Narratives. My highest honor is winning UNCG's 2024 English Excellence Award for my superior academic achievement in the Rhetoric and Public Advocacy minor. While my awards demonstrate my dedication to academic success, my time at UNCG's Writing Center demonstrates my dedication to the success of others. I completed an intensive 5-month practicum learning the history and methodology of teaching before completing a year as a Writing Center Consultant and Writing Center Student Mentor. During this time, I had the privilege of working with students from all backgrounds, life situations, and skill levels. I graduated with a B.A. in Russian Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and am currently a student at The Ohio State University pursuing an M.A. in Russian for the Professions! I am a firm believer in allowing everyone a chance to learn and interact in a safe and fun environment. I personally enjoy discussing and practicing a wide range of topics in Russian including geography, aspects of language, culture, and much more.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with Master's degree in Creative Writing with a publishing emphasis. Additionally, my Bachelor's degrees are in English and Spanish. I am a certified English teacher, and have worked extensively in education - 22 years, to be exact - helping middle school, high school, and community college students achieve their academic aspirations. I have taught all English Language Arts subjects at the high school level (literature and composition), and I am also certified to teach ESOL students, and have done so throughout my career. Perhaps my favorite topic to teach is writing, and I am a firm believer that everyone has a writing voice and style to cultivate, even if they tend to struggle in this area. I have taught in public education as well as private education venues, and have tutored one-on-one as well as small groups at the high school and college levels. I have even tutored in Spain! I would describe my teaching and tutoring style as dynamic and engaging. I work to build a strong rapport with students, and I persist in positive reinforcement techniques. I am also an extensively published writer of poetry and prose. Outside of teaching and tutoring, I love to read, listen to all types of music, watch films, travel, do volunteer work, hike, and ride my bicycle! I also love cats.

I have experience teaching English 11 & 12, essay writing and editing, speech writing, test taking skills, Filmmaking, podcasting, Theatre 1-4 and IB, and Speech and Debate. I also work one-on-one with Special Education students (AU, ELL, OCS, et al) I hold a BA in theatre, minor in voice. I later returned to university for Theatre Education and English Education. I've been inducted into the NC Educational Theatre Association Hall of Fame (2020), and was honored with the Presidents' award at 2021 NC's Theatre Arts Educators conference. I love what I do.
