I'm very excited to be working with Varsity Tutors. I'm so excited to help tutor and develop lasting academic skills. I'm passionate about what I know and I'm very passionate about helping others engage in their own academic pursuits. I'm patient and am excited to engage people in topics and ideas and conversations relating to their academic and personal growth! Making lasting connections through learning experiences is the key!As the exclamation points display, I have a very enthusiastic and optimistic personality. I weightlift and read a lot in my free time and have a pretty eclectic music taste. However, I will be the first to admit I'm always a little behind the curve when it comes to new music, so any help in getting caught up is always appreciated.I'm always interested in meeting new people and learn about them and I think being a tutor is a great way to put on display my optimism, help someone, and learn about them at the same time!

I believe that as an instructor I am meant to impart more than just knowledge of a particular subject to my students; academic growth is only one part of a holistic education. Teachers should also be mentors to their students, fostering personal and ethical development both by example and through classroom interaction. I believe that education and guidance are indispensable factors in the growth of future generations and the development of a world inspired by integrity and personal responsibility.

I am a graduate of the University of Minnesota's German Studies program. I also spent a year studying in Berlin, totally immersed in the German university. Since then (August 2013), I have consistently been working in German speaking educational environments and workplaces. I have worked as a German language Summer camp instructor for ages 4-10, as an assistant teacher for German language after-school programs for ages 5-12, as a lead teacher for the same program, as a tutor for college aged students, as an adult German language tutor at a German language institute, and as a paraprofessional at a German language school.I have gained a wide variety of experiences as a language tutor in a variety of different settings and with a variety of different learning styles. I am equipped to work with any level or age learner on any language based need in both German and English. Personally, I find the structures and histories of languages fascinating and took a year of Greek at the University and self-taught a semester of Latin to learn more about it. Currently, I am also studying Spanish and Ojibwa. Thus, I am well prepared and excited to help with problems related to grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, writing skills, and reading comprehension. As a tutor, I want you, the student, to be as excited about language as I am, and so I am dedicated to finding that part of language or that expression of language that will fascinate you, whether it be poetry, song lyrics, etymology, or whatever, and incorporating that into our lessons.

My story actually begins with my father. I probably got my goal oriented personality from him. He always had something he had to accomplish. When he came to Texas from Nigeria he wanted to build a company that focused on giving. So with many years of strife he built a healthcare company from the ground up. I had the gracious opportunity from my father to learn about finance and how a business runs from him. And then I learned how to be a caregiver from my mother who was a nurse. So then it was just the proper educational base the International School of Minnesota gave me that allowed me to come to the University of Minnesota to pursue a degree in Physiology. A lot of my upbringing continuously influences the choice I make today. I love the things I love because at a young age I saw what passion for a person’s job was like. I really enjoy tutoring because I really like showing the younger generation what the value of education is. Here at Varsity Tutors i promise I will uphold their values to give my clients success.

I am an undergraduate student in my final year at the University of Minnesota studying Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering.I tutor math for middle school and high school students as well as ACT prep.I believe it is important to break problems into pieces so students can see the reasoning behind each step. By understanding each step in the process it becomes easier to work through new problems. A strong foundation will lead to success in both current and future courses.

I am a pre-Occupational Therapy student majoring in psychology with minors in neuroscience and art. I will be graduating with honors from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in May, and I will begin Washington University School of Medicine's Doctorate of Occupational Therapy Program this Fall. My academic pursuits have made me confident in my abilities to tutor those pursing degrees in social sciences along with those pursuing careers in health care. Currently my favorite subject is neuroscience. I fell in love with it after I started college and I plan on specializing in neurorehabilitionation as an occupational therapist.I have many years of experience working with children of all ages and abilities in many settings, including previous tutoring. I also have many years of experience working with children and adults with mental and physical disabilities. These experiences have provided me with skills to develop individualized plans to help individuals achieve their goals. I have had much success when applying these skills to my tutoring plans. I have also used and developed these skills further in the research I have conducted on promoting independence in adults with Autism and early intervention programs for children with Autism. My individualized interventions in both research projects resulted in increased fine motor skills in children (increasing their independence in daily cares) and successfully preparing adults for independently working in their community. These skills are also utilized in my other job at an assisted living facility for nonverbal adults with Autism.I am very happy and willing to help anyone of any age reach their full potential and pursue any goals they possess.Contact me personally for weekend availability. Currently I will often have some availability each weekend day but the time varies due to my other job. In the future, I can schedule these shifts around tutoring sessions if you wish to meet with me on the weekends.

I am a current sophomore at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. I plan on following up my undergraduate degree with graduate studies in Virology or Immunology. As a current student, I have had to spend countless hours perfecting my study habits and working through many difficult concepts on my own. This helps immensely when it comes to tutoring, as I have personal knowledge of some of the struggles students are facing. I tutor general biology at a college and high school level, and this includes AP Biology prep. I also tutor for standardized college entry exams, particularly the ACT. I enjoy biology simply because of the fascinating subject matter, but I especially enjoy test prep because it allows me to really explore the thought process that goes on behind analyzing and answering the test questions. I strive to help all of my students not only find the right answers, but to equip them to think critically and perform well on all tests and in their future studies. Outside of school, I enjoy watching basketball and cooking shows, and I have also started distance running, having completed my first marathon this past fall with more planned in the future.

I am a math major at the University of Minnesota. One of my true passions is to help people truly understand what is going in their math classes. I believe that every student who is learning math should be able to ask what ever questions they desire and have a person to talk about them with. Well, let me be that guy. Whether you are not understanding a certain method you are learning in class or would like to talk about the big picture idea of the concept you are currently learning in class, I would love to help you out!

Your first session is an opportunity for you and your tutor to get to know each other and establish learning goals. One-on-one instruction allows your tutor to focus entirely on your learning style, pace, and specific gaps in understanding—something impossible in a classroom setting. An alumni tutor can draw on their own experience as a student to anticipate common misconceptions and explain concepts in ways that click for you personally. This focused attention typically leads to faster progress and deeper mastery of material compared to group instruction.
