In 2011 I received my Masters Degree in International Development from Tulane University. I did my undergraduate work at Oral Roberts University, and I received a BA in Communications and a Minor in Spanish. I have been teaching at the K-8 level for the past eleven years, teaching a variety of subjects from English to Math to Social Studies. This upcoming school year I will be tackling a new challenge--teaching Jr. High Spanish. I am currently Highly Qualified in Spanish and looking forward to helping others become bilingual.I have had the privilege of teaching at public, private and charter schools, including a two-year stint in the Dominican Republic. Because I have seen so many different educational strategies and philosophies at work, I am able to glean the best techniques from each strategy and implement them in my teaching/tutoring. I am an advocate of the Love & Logic philosophy of classroom management, and I am a firm believer that each student must be treated as an individual. I strive to find the strategy that works best for each student, realizing that there are many different kinds of learning styles. I am happily married, own two dogs, and I love to play sports, hike, travel (I've been to Asia, Central & South America, and Africa) and read articles about theology and the international economic arena. In 2010 I was accepted into a program at Oxford University in London. Due to family reasons, I was unable to attend, but I hope to one day fulfill my dream of either earning my PhD from Tulane or studying at Oxford. I look forward to helping your child fulfill his/her educational dream.

My students call me Dr. B. I have been teaching for 40 years. My job is to find a way for you to understand and apply what you are studying. What good is something if you can't use it? Because I have done this for a long time, I have many ways of explaining something to you and will use as many methods as necessary for you to understand a concept. I do not succeed unless you do.

I recently graduated from Tulane University down in New Orleans, LA with a degree in finance and energy. I have extensive tutoring experience over the years since I started back in high school helping my fellow classmates in a variety of subjects and SAT test prep. Subjects I have tutoring in the past include algebra, geometry, trig., pre-calc, chemistry, and physics. I continued to tutor while I was in college, spending the majority of my time helping underprivileged students at our local elementary schools. These kids often struggled in school and have had to repeat the same grade multiple times. Our program focused on reading comprehension and writing, and I am proud to say my student made it on the school honor roll for the first time. I view tutoring as a form of giving back to my community and as a mutual learning experience for me and my student. My teaching style stresses focusing on separating concepts that my student already knows from those that they are struggling with. This style has worked in the past for me as it clearly outlines our objectives and makes best use of our limited time. Outside of school, I enjoyed going out with friends for dinner or shows. I also enjoy tennis (love the game), fishing, games of all kinds, and generally enjoying the company of the people I am with.

I am a graduate of Tulane University where I studied English, Russian, and Medieval Studies. I have focused on literature and writing throughout my academic and journalistic career. I have written on subjects as wide-ranging as theater, agriculture, poetry, natural disasters, politics, and philosophy. As a tutor, I try to bring my love of writing to the study of language.I have been a tutor and a classroom teacher for four years, and my passion for education has taken me around the world. Some of my favorite tests to help students prepare for are those which combine language and history. I believe in bringing out what is most fascinating in the AP English and AP History programs: the stories and passions that can bring the subject material to life.As an LSAT tutor I believe in the tireless and rigorous application of methods. The tests can both be very rewarding if one understands the laws behind the questions. I believe that preparation should focus on creating strategies and methods that respond to these laws. My LSAT students develop a toolbox to address each type of question, and they develop the perspicuity to discern which question requires which approach.New York is my home, and when I am not teaching, I like to ride my bicycle down its broad avenues and tortuous alleys. I have been to many countries and studied many languages, but there is one place I always return, for better or for worse, and I am happy to offer my services to its students.

As a recent college graduate of Tulane University, I understand the hustle and bustle of studying for tests and writing long essays. As a tutor, I am here for you, or for your child, to help them succeed academically and ease the stress of being a student. My major in Sociology made writing and editing papers second nature for me, and my major in Dance taught me how to be creative with problem-solving and teaching. My best tutoring subject would definitely be essay writing/editing because I know what a good paper should look like. Friends have come to me in the past to help them edit not only essays, but legal documents! Additionally, my high scores on the ACT show that the ways I prepared for my ACT were successful, and I can help you in the same ways.Previous teaching experience includes teaching choreography! I have taught young kids ages 3-6, musical theater kids with little training, as well as highly trained collegiate dancers. I understand the need to adjust my teaching style depending on the level and age of my students.Interests outside of academia include dance and music. I was Co-Captain, Vice President, and Social Media Manager of the Tulane Shockwave Dance Team, the official dance team of Tulane University. I also served as Treasurer and Public Relations Manager of the NJBeats A Cappella Group, Tulane's premiere Jewish a cappella group!I will always tutor as I would want to be tutored, which is with patience, understanding, and my full, undivided attention. Teaching is something that I truly enjoy, and I love finding new ways to engage and inspire my students. I have extensive volunteer experience; I taught an ESL class for adults while living in New Orleans; at the end of the term, 100% of my regularly attending students elected to sign up for more classes. I am a recently returned Peace Corps Volunteer; I spent over a year working in a small school in Namibia (Southern Africa) teaching English, Math, and Computer Skills in a resource-poor environment. My strengths lie in verbal expression, although I have a background in science (especially biology) as well. Learning should be fun. That is my approach to teaching and tutoring. We tend to enjoy and appreciate things we do well, but sometimes we need to learn things that don't come so easily. Everybody learns in a different way. Very often, simply turning the subject around so it can be viewed from a different perspective, enables someone who once wrestled with it to understand it better. As a trial lawyer, I frequently needed to find ways to influence judges and juries. Understanding that my point of view was not necessarily the same as someone else's enabled me to find ways to help others understand my client's position. I believe the same holds true with tackling a problematic subject in school.Education is so very important. It alters the way we see the world around us, and in the process it changes lives. Art, mathematics, literature, language, history, chemistry, they all provide bits and pieces that contribute to our experience on this planet.I find tremendous joy in helping another person learn to conquer, comprehend and enjoy something which once presented a problem. I look forward with great anticipation to assisting those I tutor in overcoming their fear of whatever subject is currently causing them trouble and in adding it to their list of accomplishments.

I believe that a positive attitude can allow anyone to learn anything. In all I do I always find a way to make it work! My teaching philosophy reflects that. I attended Tulane University for my Masters in Business Administration and while finishing that I also obtained my Professional Engineering license in Arizona. My background is in construction and consulting. I've always enjoyed doing arts and crafts, painting, and design so a few years after my MBA, I decided to undertake some creative design projects that lead me to take a few college courses. Unbeknownst to me at that time, those courses turned into passions and two Associates degrees: Web and Graphic Design + Interior Design. I'm fascinated with merging the technical with the creative. I am an avid, lifelong learner, and love to help others appreciate the subjects I love most: history, writing, and ecology. I have taught or TA'd college courses in these subjects and more, which means, in addition to a firm grasp on the material, I have a good perspective on how assignments are graded and what professors are seeking from their students.I completed my undergraduate education at Tulane University, where I double majored in Environmental Studies and Studio Art. I went on to receive my Master's of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon, where I focused on combining ecology and history to analyze long term environmental problems in the South African savanna. My teaching philosophy is relaxed and personalized. In my experience, there are many students who need more than what large classes can provide, either because they need one-on-one time to grasp tricky concepts in a fast moving course, or because they are ahead of the class and want to perfect their assignments, which many instructors simply don't have time to help with. I tailor the help I give to the objective a student has--from needing to scrape together a passing grade to striving for that perfect essay, I streamline or add depth to the material being studied.I am a strong believer in a well rounded liberal arts education--being interdisciplinary has served me well, and I'm excited to help others connect and synthesize the subjects they study.

I believe a strong foundation in both areas is fundamental in scholastic success, so I often break down subjects to their roots in order to help a student succeed from the ground level up to most advanced topics.Additionally, I enjoy tutoring ACT/SAT preparation, because I believe the right foundation and study tactics can make all the difference in performance on both of these exams, ideally saving students hours of studying material that may be repetitive or unnecessary. My tutoring style is very flexible, as I aim to discover how each student learns and cater to their unique style. I'm always up for the challenge of changing my methods of instruction and breaking down topics to foster a deeper understanding of a subject. On a different note, I generally spend my spare time playing lacrosse or running outdoors when possible. I also play the violin with a school quartet, and teach lessons to beginning students working through the Suzuki program.

For as long as I can remember, I've enjoyed learning new things and then teaching others about what I've learned. When I was a 5-year old, that translated into counting to 100 and then counting backwards from 100 for everyone who would at least pretend to listen. And since I was constantly asking questions, I never ran out of new things to learn and teach other people about. The things that I learn these days have changed a lot since I was a little girl, but the desire to learn and help others learn remains an integral part of who I am. For me, tutoring is an endless supply of opportunities to use everything that I've learned to help someone else understand scientific concepts, and see just how cool science can be.My initial experience with tutoring was as a graduate student at Tulane University, where I was a medical biochemistry tutor. After earning a doctorate in biochemistry, I gained teaching experience in molecular cell biology and introductory biology for majors and non-majors. I also have extensive laboratory experience that includes setting up and operating a brain tissue culture laboratory; biomarker analysis in sickle cell disease; and identifying/developing diagnostic and prognostic tools in breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and FSHD.

At heart, I have unshakable faith in each student's capacity to successfully navigate all subjects. All it takes is figuring out where our individual potholes are, and filling them in! No more flat tires on the same old bad habits or missing information. For me, the best part of tutoring is watching a student realize he or she is not limited to the difficulties of a subject or skill. I love the moment when a student says "I guess I could be a math person!" Or, "I dropped the word 'loquacious' in conversation, you should have seen their faces!"Too often, we define our capabilities in such harsh and rigid ways. If we don't understand math as quickly as our peers, we aren't good at math. If diagramming parts of speech doesn't make sense the first time, that must be the only way to learn it, and we're out of luck. If we get so nervous for tests that our minds go blank, we resign ourselves to grades that reflect nerves instead of knowledge. No! Albert Einstein didn't begin speaking till he was four years old - what if he believed that defined his future? With a creative approach, individually adapted explanations and examples, and cheerful tenacity, I work diligently with each student to overcome learning gaps, build confidence, and reach academic goals of all varieties.

Passionate about education, I have been deeply inspired by the teachers who made me feel capable despite my learning disabilities. Their support changed my life, and I want to provide that same encouragement to students. I have experience tutoring students ages 7-18 at Anna's Place in New Orleans, assisting with English and math homework and teaching classes in art, music, and NASA's engineering program. I have also taught dance for five years to students ages 5-15 in styles including tap, jazz, hip-hop, and lyrical. Additionally, I have taught voice, dance, and acting in the educational arts program Next Stop Broadway for students ages 10-17. Currently, I am a senior at Tulane University, earning a bachelor's degree in Communications and Digital Media Practices with a minor in Strategy, Leadership, and Analytics (SLAM). I tutor Elementary Statistics, Art, English, Handwriting, Math, Public Speaking, and Visual Art, with a particular passion for English due to my love for creative writing and storytelling. My teaching philosophy is that everyone has the ability to learn, and while we all learn differently, each student has unique gifts that allow them to thrive. Outside of academia, I am passionate about filmmaking and the entertainment industry, creating student films and organizing comedy shows at Tulane.

Hey y'all! My name is Claire, and I am so excited to teach online this year. For the last seven years, I taught all over the country (Charleston, SC, Nashville, TN, Portland, OR, and Vancouver, WA) and also earned a master's degree in education from Johns Hopkins University along the way.I hated math as a kid because my teachers always made me feel stupid in class for not understanding right away. I became a math teacher because I saw how many people get stuck in their education and careers when they run into trouble in math class. Working with me, you will understand how capable you are and will never have to feel embarrassed for learning. Come to class to ask questions and learn with me!

I am a life long learner with extensive experience tutoring students in a variety of subjects: Math, foreign languages, humanities, etc. I have a Masters from Tulane University and I'm currently prepping to return to school to pursue an MBA. The ability to connect authentically is at the heart of my core skillset: I've lived in 4 continents and picked up several languages along the way. These highly social and outgoing experiences inform my global worldview and deep understanding of what sparks interest in the eyes of my students.Resilience, confidence and intellectual curiosity can take one to amazing places. In fact, these traits have given me the ability to develop engaging tutoring sessions that incorporate information from various disciplines to help students reach their full potential in the classroom and the workplace. My approach to teaching is not to just to impart information, but to share information in such a way that will empower students to ask questions. This approach will strengthen their ability to think critically and solve challenging problems. Seeing the joy in students eyes when they finally grasp a concept is the ultimate reward. When I'm not working I love playing tennis, traveling and exploring cool neighborhoods in the city.

I am a graduate of Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. I received my Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Nicholls State University. I have been an educator for over 15 years and have a passion for math. I love to see when that ???light bulb??? comes on and students understand a concept. That is very rewarding. I firmly believe that anybody can have success with math. Math has its own language. Once you learn the language, you too can be successful. I can help with that! I am a firm believer in the power of education as a key to open doors of opportunity and to improve the quality of life. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching football and basketball, playing football game on PS3 and Bible study.

Varsity tutors would allow me to further my teaching experience in these areas. Teaching is a passion of mine and I would love to learn more and more to become a better teacher. I see teaching as a core part of my professional goals, especially in foreign languages. I took courses in Spanish and Portuguese at Tulane University, which was rigorous, but I developed better writing skills and speaking skills in the languages. My degree is in Psychology, but I received a minor degree in Spanish. At Tulane, I took courses in Spanish literature, Brazilian culture and literature, and Portuguese composition.
