In 2011 I received my Masters Degree in International Development from Tulane University. I did my undergraduate work at Oral Roberts University, and I received a BA in Communications and a Minor in Spanish. I have been teaching at the K-8 level for the past eleven years, teaching a variety of subjects from English to Math to Social Studies. This upcoming school year I will be tackling a new challenge--teaching Jr. High Spanish. I am currently Highly Qualified in Spanish and looking forward to helping others become bilingual.I have had the privilege of teaching at public, private and charter schools, including a two-year stint in the Dominican Republic. Learning should be fun. That is my approach to teaching and tutoring. We tend to enjoy and appreciate things we do well, but sometimes we need to learn things that don't come so easily. The things that I learn these days have changed a lot since I was a little girl, but the desire to learn and help others learn remains an integral part of who I am. For me, tutoring is an endless supply of opportunities to use everything that I've learned to help someone else understand scientific concepts, and see just how cool science can be.My initial experience with tutoring was as a graduate student at Tulane University, where I was a medical biochemistry tutor. After earning a doctorate in biochemistry, I gained teaching experience in molecular cell biology and introductory biology for majors and non-majors. I also have extensive laboratory experience that includes setting up and operating a brain tissue culture laboratory; biomarker analysis in sickle cell disease; and identifying/developing diagnostic and prognostic tools in breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and FSHD.

At heart, I have unshakable faith in each student's capacity to successfully navigate all subjects. All it takes is figuring out where our individual potholes are, and filling them in! No more flat tires on the same old bad habits or missing information.For me, the best part of tutoring is watching a student realize he or she is not limited to the difficulties of a subject or skill. I love the moment when a student says "I guess I could be a math person!" Or, "I dropped the word 'loquacious' in conversation, you should have seen their faces!"Too often, we define our capabilities in such harsh and rigid ways. If we don't understand math as quickly as our peers, we aren't good at math. If diagramming parts of speech doesn't make sense the first time, that must be the only way to learn it, and we're out of luck. If we get so nervous for tests that our minds go blank, we resign ourselves to grades that reflect nerves instead of knowledge.No! Albert Einstein didn't begin speaking till he was four years old - what if he believed that defined his future?With a creative approach, individually adapted explanations and examples, and cheerful tenacity, I work diligently with each student to overcome learning gaps, build confidence, and reach academic goals of all varieties.

Passionate about education, I have been deeply inspired by the teachers who made me feel capable despite my learning disabilities. Their support changed my life, and I want to provide that same encouragement to students. I have experience tutoring students ages 7-18 at Anna's Place in New Orleans, assisting with English and math homework and teaching classes in art, music, and NASA's engineering program. I have also taught dance for five years to students ages 5-15 in styles including tap, jazz, hip-hop, and lyrical. Additionally, I have taught voice, dance, and acting in the educational arts program Next Stop Broadway for students ages 10-17. Currently, I am a senior at Tulane University, earning a bachelor's degree in Communications and Digital Media Practices with a minor in Strategy, Leadership, and Analytics (SLAM). I tutor Elementary Statistics, Art, English, Handwriting, Math, Public Speaking, and Visual Art, with a particular passion for English due to my love for creative writing and storytelling. My teaching philosophy is that everyone has the ability to learn, and while we all learn differently, each student has unique gifts that allow them to thrive. Outside of academia, I am passionate about filmmaking and the entertainment industry, creating student films and organizing comedy shows at Tulane.

For the last seven years, I taught all over the country (Charleston, SC, Nashville, TN, Portland, OR, and Vancouver, WA) and also earned a master's degree in education from Johns Hopkins University along the way.I hated math as a kid because my teachers always made me feel stupid in class for not understanding right away. I became a math teacher because I saw how many people get stuck in their education and careers when they run into trouble in math class. I am a life long learner with extensive experience tutoring students in a variety of subjects: Math, foreign languages, humanities, etc. I have a Masters from Tulane University and I'm currently prepping to return to school to pursue an MBA. The ability to connect authentically is at the heart of my core skillset: I've lived in 4 continents and picked up several languages along the way. I am a graduate of Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. I received my Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Nicholls State University. I have been an educator for over 15 years and have a passion for math. I love to see when that ???light bulb??? comes on and students understand a concept. That is very rewarding. I firmly believe that anybody can have success with math. Math has its own language. Once you learn the language, you too can be successful. I can help with that! I am a firm believer in the power of education as a key to open doors of opportunity and to improve the quality of life. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching football and basketball, playing football game on PS3 and Bible study.

Varsity tutors would allow me to further my teaching experience in these areas. Teaching is a passion of mine and I would love to learn more and more to become a better teacher. I see teaching as a core part of my professional goals, especially in foreign languages. I took courses in Spanish and Portuguese at Tulane University, which was rigorous, but I developed better writing skills and speaking skills in the languages. My degree is in Psychology, but I received a minor degree in Spanish. At Tulane, I took courses in Spanish literature, Brazilian culture and literature, and Portuguese composition.
