I am Texas transplant and graduated from Tulane University, where I majored in economics. After graduation I moved to New York to serve as an AmeriCorps with Habitat for Humanity. The skills I learned in teaching volunteers to build a house translate well to tutoring, and I am sure that I can help you improve your scores! With a perfect score on the 2016 MCAT CARS section, I specialize in tutoring reading comprehension and English for both the ACT and MCAT. My goal is to help you learn to read between the lines and develop strategies for test-day success. Other than tutoring, I do woodworking, read, bike, and box. I am looking forward to working with you!

I worked in academia for 4+ years and after graduating with my Master of Science degree I went to work in the energy (oil and gas) industry for 11+ years and now I am returning to academia because I really enjoy working with young minded students and helping them understand and master science subjects especially chemistry.
I recently graduated with my Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University. Prior to this, I received my Bachelor of Science from Boston University in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Marine Biology. As a graduate student, I worked in a tissue engineering lab with the goal of advancing knowledge of current cell and tissue-based clinical therapies!I have a strong passion for learning about and teaching anything math or science related. These subjects are incredibly important in our everyday lives, and I can only hope to extend my passion and excitement to my students. I have a relaxed, hands-on teaching style with the belief that visual cues and plenty of practice involving real-life examples are both key to understanding a topic.Focus areas I enjoy teaching include biology, most levels of math, earth science, and engineering courses. I love working with students of all ages, and have a strong desire to help students succeed. In my free time I love to spend time with my dog, run, go to the beach, and try new recipes!
For as long as I can remember, I've enjoyed learning new things and then teaching others about what I've learned. When I was a 5-year old, that translated into counting to 100 and then counting backwards from 100 for everyone who would at least pretend to listen. And since I was constantly asking questions, I never ran out of new things to learn and teach other people about. The things that I learn these days have changed a lot since I was a little girl, but the desire to learn and help others learn remains an integral part of who I am. For me, tutoring is an endless supply of opportunities to use everything that I've learned to help someone else understand scientific concepts, and see just how cool science can be.My initial experience with tutoring was as a graduate student at Tulane University, where I was a medical biochemistry tutor. After earning a doctorate in biochemistry, I gained teaching experience in molecular cell biology and introductory biology for majors and non-majors. I also have extensive laboratory experience that includes setting up and operating a brain tissue culture laboratory; biomarker analysis in sickle cell disease; and identifying/developing diagnostic and prognostic tools in breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and FSHD.
Learning should be fun. That is my approach to teaching and tutoring. We tend to enjoy and appreciate things we do well, but sometimes we need to learn things that don't come so easily. Everybody learns in a different way. Very often, simply turning the subject around so it can be viewed from a different perspective, enables someone who once wrestled with it to understand it better. As a trial lawyer, I frequently needed to find ways to influence judges and juries. Understanding that my point of view was not necessarily the same as someone else's enabled me to find ways to help others understand my client's position. I believe the same holds true with tackling a problematic subject in school.Education is so very important. It alters the way we see the world around us, and in the process it changes lives. Art, mathematics, literature, language, history, chemistry, they all provide bits and pieces that contribute to our experience on this planet.I find tremendous joy in helping another person learn to conquer, comprehend and enjoy something which once presented a problem. I look forward with great anticipation to assisting those I tutor in overcoming their fear of whatever subject is currently causing them trouble and in adding it to their list of accomplishments.

Hello,As the daughter of an elementary school teacher, the importance of education has been stressed to me for as long as I can remember.I grew up in Arkansas but attended Loyola University New Orleans as an undergraduate student. I then attended Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine where I earned a Master of Public Health degree in Community based Health. With a continued thirst for knowledge, I attended Case Western Reserve University and earned a Master of Science in Medical Physiology. Currently, I'm a new resident physician in Obstetrics and Gynecology.I consider myself a lifelong studentand have always enjoyed teaching. While a graduate student at Case, I taught 9th grade English and was a part-time nanny for a 5 year old boy.I've tutored and been a mentor while being in medical school as well.In my free time, I enjoy doing anything at all with my husband and daughter. When I can find quiet time, I enjoy reading and writing in my journal.I look forward to working with you or your child(ren).
I recently graduated from Tulane University down in New Orleans, LA with a degree in finance and energy. I have extensive tutoring experience over the years since I started back in high school helping my fellow classmates in a variety of subjects and SAT test prep. Subjects I have tutoring in the past include algebra, geometry, trig., pre-calc, chemistry, and physics. I continued to tutor while I was in college, spending the majority of my time helping underprivileged students at our local elementary schools. These kids often struggled in school and have had to repeat the same grade multiple times. Our program focused on reading comprehension and writing, and I am proud to say my student made it on the school honor roll for the first time. I view tutoring as a form of giving back to my community and as a mutual learning experience for me and my student. My teaching style stresses focusing on separating concepts that my student already knows from those that they are struggling with. This style has worked in the past for me as it clearly outlines our objectives and makes best use of our limited time. Outside of school, I enjoyed going out with friends for dinner or shows. I also enjoy tennis (love the game), fishing, games of all kinds, and generally enjoying the company of the people I am with.

I am confident that I can help put you in the best position to achieve success. The obstacle is the way.
An AP English teacher for over 20 years, Jennifer also works for College Board and ETS scoring SAT essays and AP essays for over ten years now. Mrs. Barbknecht is an award-winning teacher who firmly believes that every student can learn how to be successful both in academically rigorous courses and on difficult standardized tests. Her students have earned perfect scores and gained admittance to Ivy League universities and colleges.
I am a graduate of Southern University Baton Rouge and Tulane University New Orleans, both great universities in Louisiana. My undergraduate degree is in Animal Science and my graduate degree is in Parasitology. I am presently a high school science teacher. I LOVE science and have been tutoring students in science for 13 years. Prior to teaching science, I worked in research. My favorite sciences are the life sciences: Biology, Environmental Science, Anatomy, etc. Once students realize that science is a part of our life and learn to identify the concepts in their day to day experiences it makes the subject much easier to understand. When I am not tutoring, I like to: travel, learn new sewing techniques, recreate pre-17th century characters, cooking new dishes for my family, and spent time with my lady (our 60 pound lab that thinks shes a baby).
I am an entrepreneurial travel-loving media professional living in New Orleans. I have a Master in Business Administration from Tulane University and I love teaching all sorts of subjects, especially math. In terms of hobbies, you can find me long-distance running, studying data science, exploring new restaurants and traveling the world.
