I am a lawyer in the Washington, D.C. area. I tutor in the test prep space - primarily for the SAT, ACT, and LSAT. I graduated from the University of Alabama in 2013, where I was a National Merit Scholar. I then spent one year in the Washington, D.C. area as a SAT/ACT instructor for a testing company, where I taught at four different area high schools and marketed company services to area high school students. I then attended the University of Virginia School of Law, where I was awarded a full tuition scholarship in part from my LSAT score. I also taught an SAT course for the same testing company during my time in law school. My teaching philosophy is simple: figure out what works for you and assisting you in achieving your best score. I'm pretty much always available to answer questions even outside of our tutoring time.

My journey to and through education is a long one because I am a life learner. I received my B.S. in Business from Judson College in Marion, AL. A few years later I went to the University of Alabama and received my Class B Teaching Certification in Special Education Collaboration K-12 which encompasses all ability levels, including Gifted. After that, I taught special education inclusion and small-group classes at a middle school in a metro Atlanta, GA suburb for 4 years (6-8 grades and all subjects). There, I was the lead special education teacher for a staff of 20 and passed the Praxis for Teaching Reading for middle school. For the next three years, I held the same kind of teaching position at a junior high school in Bibb County, AL. I continued my teaching career at a rural high school just outside of Selma, AL. My position again consisted of inclusion teaching and small group classes in all subjects and grades 9-12. After 5 years in that role, I made a change to general education in the same high school and did so by passing the Praxis in the area of English/Language Arts for grades 6-12. While teaching 10th-grade English and providing special education accommodations to my students, I served as the school's 504 coordinator. I earned my Master's in English Education for grades 6-12 from the University of West Alabama. Before the 5 years I taught 10th grade English passed, I began work on my Education Specialist degree in Teacher Leader at the University of West Alabama. Throughout all of those years of teaching middle school and high school, I tutored students at school in many subjects, especially reading, writing, math, and ACT prep during and outside of school hours. Next, I received a dream opportunity to join the faculty at an Alabama State Community College teaching Freshman English Composition I & II and American Literature I & II as I completed my Master's in English coursework from the University of West Alabama. During my first year in that position, I completed the coursework to earn my Ed.S. degree. I just completed my 7th year of teaching college English to start a brand new journey teaching elementary special education grades 1st, 3rd, & 5th. It has been amazing! I am approved to tutor A LOT of subjects: ACT English, ACT Writing, Algebra Pre-Algebra, Biology, Business, CLEP, CLEP American Literature, CLEP College Algebra, CLEP English Literature, College English, College Level American Literature, Comparative Literature, Creative Writing, Dissertation Writing, English, English Grammar and Syntax, Expository Writing, Writing, Fiction Writing, Government, High School Business, High School English, High School Government, High School Level American History, High School Level American Literature, High School Reading, High School Writing, History, Honors Algebra, Learning Differences, Literature, Math, Middle School English, Middle School Writing, Personal Finance, Reading, SAT Reading, Social Studies, Special Education, Test Prep, Thesis Writing, World Literature, and Writing, My favorite subjects to tutor are biology, English, math, literature, and writing because these are common trouble subjects that I can make easier for students. When I'm helping students and showing them different ways to understand various subjects, my students often say, "Why didn't my teacher explain it that way?" I incorporate the many accommodations and differentiation techniques I have learned over my 22-year teaching career. I am passionate about helping students succeed in areas in which they have struggled by teaching them tools to apply themselves as they continue to progress. When I work with students I use scaffolding to provide students with support and opportunities to work independently. Often I will incorporate alternative learning scenarios utilizing different learning styles and graphic organizers. I believe that all students can learn all subjects and find success along with increased self-esteem. Building relationships with my students is the key to the success they experience. As a teacher/tutor, my roles range from mentor to coach.

My career in helping students begins when I was in 9th grade at Walnut Hills High School. I was involved, on and off, with tutoring elementary children of a family friend and editing college essays for nursing students who were short on time. I was known for the precise nature of my editing and the sharp improvement whoever sought me for help saw in their grades. Though my tutoring career ended once I entered into university, this does not mean I was doing nothing; I was busy expanding my skills and own knowledge.Having majored in International Relations, I have studied a wide range of subjects, ranging from basic international politics to the history of mass-consumerism in Europe to Western European Art History to diversity and communication. During my time in university, I also worked as a research assistant to one Dr. Randall Salekin; my duties included editing essays that were either going to be sent to or were rejected from peer-reviewed scholarly journals dedicated to discussing clinical psychology in depth, and shadowing interviews with at-risk teenage boys at the Alabama Juvenile Detention Center.I have also lived in Germany for a semester, and have been exposed to a world and wealth of cultures I may not have been able to witness were I to otherwise have stayed in the United States. Being near-fluent in German has changed my mind and allowed me to think in more creative ways, which will translate into creative and innovative approaches in helping students learn. My exposure to many different people and backgrounds in and outside of academia has also allowed me to develop the worldview and open-mindedness needed to pass on what I have learned to other students in an act of giving back to the education system that has nurtured me and the success I have earned.

I'm currently a student at the University of Alabama, working towards an undergraduate degree in math/statistics. While finishing up high school I volunteered as a tutor for the AVID program at my school and throughout the past three years have tutored several classmates in a wide range of subjects. While I tutor in several subject areas, my favorite is math. I believe that education is crucial in the world that we live in today, but I also believe that each student is different and learns in different ways. I love showing students how what they are learning now will help them in life and I love finding new ways to teach material, especially if the first way of learning something is not working. Outside of class, I love color guard, writing, and just spending time with my friends, which normally leads to failing at board games.

I'm currently a fourth year medical student at a private medical school in Texas. I've been involved with tutoring since middle school continuing all the way through medical school. There are so many different ways to teach based on how students learn best and I am passionate about meeting the individual needs of students so they can succeed. I took unconventional approaches to learning as instilled by mentors throughout my life that greatly increased my ability to learn and comprehend material . I've worked with tutoring students in ACT prep, SAT prep, MCAT prep, IB and AP courses, as well as STEM subjects from elementary school through to college. Recently, I've also tutored for USMLE Step 1 & 2. I also edit and work with students who need tutors for writing and reading comprehension. I have extensive experience in both college and medical school admissions and work yearly with students on essays and applications. I went to high school at the Downingtown STEM Academy and graduated May 2018 from the University of Alabama with a 4.2. I have a BS in Biology with minors in Social Work and Social Welfare. I will be graduating with an MD and MPH in May 2022. I tutor english, math, geometry, algebra, SAT, ACT, MCAT, USMLE chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, and writing along with other subjects. I've worked with rural students in Alabama, students in the Greater Philadelphia area, and students in urban areas. I believe education should be personalized and while schools can't provide this due to lack of resources, tutors are a great substitute for that. Education is the gateway to social mobility and happiness and I seek to prepare my student to meet their individual goals. I work to create an environment where the student can focus on understanding the material for their own understanding and not for others which significantly increases the students confidence in the subject matter and their desire to learn more.

In addition, I will custom tailor my plan to fit you and your learning needs. At the end of each lesson I will send you a copy of the notes we used, and you are free to contact me and ask additional questions at any time for free!Is your child struggling in class??
