Hi, I'm Priyanka Prasad! I'm a senior Mathematics and Economics major at Butler University. I have minors in Management Information Systems, Business Administration, and French. I've been a Math and Economics tutor throughout my time in college. These are subjects in which many students struggle during high school and college, and I find helping students to feel more confident in them to be so rewarding!In my spare time, I love to travel, learn new languages, cook, dance, and work with young people. I've done this as a freelance tutor for the past 4 years and also through mentorship opportunities through College Mentors for Kids and working as a tutor for refugees for a local school system.Over the course of the past 4 years, I have tutored over 20 high school students for an extended period of time. Many of these tutoring experiences have been specifically for test preparation. During this time, I've greatly enjoyed helping students meet their own academic goals. Of all the types of tutoring I've done over the years, I've found test preparation tutoring to be the most rewarding. Here's why: standardized tests like the SAT and ACT are often high stakes: performance on one test can have quite a large impact on a student's life. Despite this, test taking is a skill many students struggle with. Fortunately, I've found that test taking skills can be taught, and that learning them can improve student's standardized test performance dramatically. It's enjoyable to watch students develop into confident, effective test takers. It's even better to see what doors doing well on essential tests can open for them.I've also tutored 10-15 students as a supplement to in-class instruction for a specific course. Normally, I enjoy working with student on Math, Economics, Reading, and Writing. Most of the students I've tutored have seen an improvement of 2+ letter grades during the time we've worked together.When I first meet a student, I make it a point to learn about the student's interests and goals, both academic and extracurricular. Then, when the student and I are discussing the subject I am teaching them, I help the student make connections between the subject I'm teaching them to something they have a personal interest in. For example, I was recently working with an Economics student who was doing poorly in the course because she believed it was irrelevant to her life aspirations and therefore didn't apply herself to it much. Soon, I learned that my student wanted desperately to become a corporate lawyer. Once I helped her see how economic principles serve as the basis for legal systems (on both a macro and micro level), she was far more interested in Economics. This interest enabled her to exceed her expectations for her course grade by over two letter grades.As someone who has overcome my own personal struggles with lack of organization and timeliness, I have experienced firsthand what it feels like to work hard but still struggle to reach one's academic goals. Since I'm a far more organized and efficient student now than I was as a child (as evidenced by my solid college academic record), I've implemented changes in my study habits and lifestyle which truly worked. When I work with my students, I often share tips with them which worked for me to set them on the right path to academic success: This does two things: admitting that I'm not perfect either to a student takes me off a pedestal and allows me to connect with the student as their equal. Also, it provides the student motivation that they too, like me, can overcome their academic challenges.

I am working towards my Bachelor of Science in International Business with a minor in German at Butler University. Since my senior year of high school, I have been tutoring High School English and Writing. I wanted to continue tutoring after high school because I am passionate about English and helping students. The best part about tutoring is when I can see a concept "click" for a student. In my spare time, I enjoy photography, watching movies, and running.

Every student learns a different way and it is the tutor's responsibility to figure that way out. This may include some trial and error. Each student has a unique learning style and it is the tutor's responsibility to figure this out and accommodate the student. Children must understand the basics and have a firm foundation before they can build on this and soar to the heights they have the ability to attain. One of the most gratifying experiences for a teacher is helping students achieve knowledge and truly understand and master a technique or concept. Hi, I'm Darby! I recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with an MA in Creative Writing. In 2021, I graduated from Butler University with bachelor degrees in English (on a creative writing track) and Spanish. I also studied history as a minor and was a part of Butler's honors program. I'm currently living in Nashville.My background in tutoring includes extensive experience as an ESL (English as a Second Language) tutor, being a teacher's assistant for college-level classes, and teaching a creative writing camp. Additionally, I have the global seal of biliteracy for Spanish and studied abroad in Spain for four months. I'm passionate about community engagement and creating fun and exciting classroom environments, so I love connecting with students!

I am a Spanish tutor. I have been studying the language and culture since 7th grader and continue to learn more about the Spanish language. I have studied abroad in Seville and also lived in Madrid, Spain for a year improving my Spanish skills. I am very passionate about the language and sharing that passion with others.I have also taught Spanish to students grades 6-12. I enjoy working one on one with students and in small groups. I hope to share my passion and knowledge of the Spanish language with others here.

My teaching philosophy centers on empowering students to think critically and independently as well as how to think rather than what to think. I am a certified ESL teacher as well as teaching History at the local community college. Being an ESL teacher gives me the opportunity to bridge language and cultures, which is something I am passionate about. History is the perfect subject to encourage students to think critically and independently. History, whether it is personal/family or state or national or world, provides an identity and moral understanding. I find it exciting when students move beyond parroting what I say or what the readings say to draw their conclusions and back up their statements with facts. By examining the past, students learn so much more about the present, as well as develop the abilities to use logic, problem-solve, assess evidence and conflicting interpretations, and understand past examples of change. These abilities transition into working life skills as well as develop responsible public behavior no matter if they are a national or community leader, an informed voter, or an observer.Geographically, my life has been all "over the world." Not only have these opportunities fueled my lifelong interest in world history and politics, but they have also developed my passion for delving into American history and politics. Teaching is not just a "job" to me, but rather a privilege that carries significant responsibilities.

Teaching has been my passion since I was in high school. I enrolled in Ball State University and pursued my degree in Elementary Education and graduated in 2001. I taught for a few years before I earned my Master of Education from Butler University in 2007. I started my career teaching 2nd grade for 2 years. I then taught Kindergarten for 20 years, and now I am back in 2nd grade! Teaching kindergarten was amazing and really showed me how important early literacy and math skills are to be successful in the other grades. I am so happy I made the change to 2nd grade because I love working with students on the more difficult skills in math, reading, and writing. It is amazing to see how the concepts that were taught in kindergarten have prepared them for 2nd grade. I love what I do, and after 24 years, I could not imagine doing anything else. I love seeing students be successful and excited when they accomplish new things.no matter his or her level.

I believe everyone can succeed if they are given the tools they need. My goal is to identify what tools an individual needs and help them build those skills so they can be successful. I challenge students in every session to try their best and solve their own problems. My role is to guide them in their learning processes and reinforce their achievements. I am passionate about learning and want to share my passion with others. To create a better future, we need passionate learners who are confident in their abilities. Every person has strengths that can be harnessed and applied to help them succeed. Similarly, every person has different weaknesses that need to be identified before they can learn where they need to improve.

I am a lifelong learner with a B.A in psychology (minor in philosophy) from Butler University, an M.S. in psychology from Walden University and an MSW (masters in social work) from Indiana University. I have been teaching graduate students for several years and am passionate about supporting students in their process. I enjoy tutoring human and social sciences, and if I had to pick a favorite topic I would say it is psychology because that is where my journey began. I am a believer in early reading and writing because this is the foundation of all other learning, and of being successful in life.I believe that every learner is unique and it is important to work with the strengths of the individual; it is my job to support the learner so that they may meet their goals. Aside from teaching and tutoring, I enjoy taking art courses, drawing, illustration and painting, and spending time with family and our animals.

I had such a great time earning my BA in English Literature from Butler University, as well as attaining my M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. All of this was due to committed and memorable teachers!As a result, I was inspired to become an educator.As a teacher, my job is to help students tap into their incredibly unique potential. I have been teaching since 2009 and have taught a wide variety of subjects including SAT, ACT, SHSAT, math and reading. Before teaching, I worked at CTB/McGraw-Hill, one of the companies that makes and scores standardized tests. I obtained my Bachelors at Oberlin in Music, played in several chamber music ensembles and worked at the college radio station WOBC. Outside of teaching I work as musician and dancer, and have performed in Broadway and off-broadway shows performing regularly throughout the city. I have also earned my masters from the Jordan College of Fine Arts at Butler University, while being an Eagle Scout and Kentucky Colonel.

I received my bachelor's degree from Butler University in 2011. I am currently completing graduate study in musicology at the University of Illinois. My research focuses on hip hop music and political life in Morocco. When I am not pursuing my own project, I am usually teaching. I have served as a graduate teaching assistant for U of I's Introduction to World Music course for two years. Before attending graduate school, I worked as a certified substitute teacher for K-12 general and special education in Michigan. I also volunteered as a literacy tutor with the Family Learning Institute in Ann Arbor, MI. While I am comfortable tutoring in a wide range of humanities and language arts subjects, I am most passionate about teaching English and reading comprehension. I believe students' advancements in these subjects positively impact all other academic areas. Every student can build confidence in reading and writing, and have fun doing it. I see education as a collaborative effort and I work to bring my students' personal perspectives into our lessons. Watching a student learn new things is exciting, but seeing them recognize the power of their own knowledge and experiences is even better! In my spare time, I enjoy making and listening to music of all kinds, reading and writing science fiction, running long distances (slowly), and spending a lot of time outdoors.
