Peabody, MA Physics tutoring
The student and I first covered a worksheet involving magnetics which covered concepts. She understood the worksheet very quickly and only required my help on a few of the problems. After completing that worksheet we went back to old material and reviewed a few complex circuits as she will be taking a test over that material early next week. She handled the old material very well; I think that our brief review was very helpful.

This session the student and I looked back over his most recent physics test. He didn't do as well as he had hoped on it so we wanted to figure out what was going on. After that I suggested to him that he work through the trigonometry worksheet I had emailed to him for practice. We also did some motion equation problems.

The student has an upcoming physics test. In physics, we reviewed his previous quizzes. I encouraged the student to slow down as a test-taking strategy. With kinematics graphing (position vs. time, velocity vs. time, etc.), we tied together many different concepts such as calculating slope and area under the curve, the kinematics equations, and the definitions of concepts such as force. He made progress in his understanding of kinematics. I advised him to re-do some of the problems in the book he has already done, but slowly and thoroughly.

We continued with electricity and magnetism focusing mainly on capacitors. We discussed how to calculate and the corresponding electrostatic properties of capacitor circuits. We talked about how to add capacitors in series and in parallel as well as the relationship between electric field and electric potential. The student seems to have a very good grasp on this subject.

The student finally received a study guide for the final, so we reviewed everything the guide pointed to that would be important and then addressed some sections with more detail and clarity. We focused on honing momentum and energy conservation. After focusing on the early sections, he is highly confident with all concepts related to work, energy and momentum. We then focused on sound, including wave theory, the Doppler effect, traverse/longitudinal waves, anti-node/node and intensity. Thursday, we will have our final session for finals prep, focusing on electric circuits and decibels. Then we will revisit all concepts. He is very confident he will ace the exam!
