I started tutoring while I was still in high school through my school's tutoring center. Since then, I've developed a passion for tutoring. I find a lot of beauty in topics from Mathematics to Literature to Latin, and I love finding new ways to explain complex topics to students.I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Math, but I also have an extensive background in Latin Language, standardized test preparation, grammar, and writing. I'm currently pursuing a Master's Degree in writing, in an attempt to balance my education between the arts and the sciences.I'm excited about having the opportunity to explore new topics with you!

I love learning and helping others achieve their educational goals. An avid reader, I read several books a week and am an Amazon top reviewer. Having attended a Baccalaureate High School with a language program as well as growing up in a Haitian-American household and doing foreign exchange in Brazil, I speak unaccented English, fluent Portuguese, and Kreyol. I also studied Latin, Russian and French, allowing me to read most Romance languages.I spend much of my time working with non-profits that benefit children, including a 6-year stint running the Information Technology Department and Media Center at a private school as well as the building of a Literacy Center/Library at a church. The current non-profits I work with include one offering health training and a wellness center in Haiti, a foundation that fosters leadership through preparing disadvantaged youth for college & a program that provides education/career counseling to families who have survived domestic violence. As a child, I had multiple disabilities that could have derailed my life. Instead, they fortified my desire to learn as much as possible, spawning over 50 hobbies and a general desire to improve the world around me. I hope to bring joy to your child's learning process as well as the knowledge that one can achieve anything you set your mind to.

I am a graduate of Clark University where I received my B.A in Physics and Mathematics. I grew up going between Los Angeles and Paris, always in a French school so I quickly became bilingual.I have always loved science, in particular physics and mathematics and have been lucky enough to share this with others through tutoring. I can help with all levels of math and physics up through graduate level course work. I also can tutor all levels of French as I have taken the French baccalaureat. I started tutoring in high school, everything from math, literature, to French and Latin. I have worked mostly with high school, college students and adults, but have also helped younger students accomplish their goals. I love teaching and find it wonderful when I help my students understand complex concepts. Though hard science can be scary, all my students have come to have a much deeper understanding of it which is a reward in itself. In my free time I enjoy traveling, playing music, and computer programming. In my free time I like to discover new things about the city

I'm a recent grad from Wesleyan University, where I've worked as a tutor, a teaching assistant, and a researcher. I've taught middle-schoolers how to program their own video games, interviewed monks in Minnesota, studied Dante under a world-class expert in Bologna, and edited transcripts on the history of philosophy since 300 BCE. I can proofread essays, perform long division, translate difficult texts, and find the derivative.Prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, my plans were to attend Columbia's School of Social Work, where I was hoping to counsel foster youth. Unfortunately, I've had to defer my enrollment to Columbia, but I'm still just as passionate about education and child welfare as ever. My goal as a tutor is to share with my students an excitement for learning, as well as a sense of wonder for the infinite potential of the written word.

I am a graduate of both Trinity University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Latin, and Brandeis University, where I received my Master of Arts in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies. Between schools and since, I have tried to find personal time to continuing my studies and keeping my skills fresh by translating new works. I have worked with Shelby County Schools as a classroom teacher of Etymology but have found that I thrive much better when working one-on-one with students. I tutor Latin at all levels, with the hope that my students, regardless of their starting skill level, can learn to see the beauty and nuance of the language they are studying. I believe in education as a tool for personal enrichment, and especially the study of foreign languages as a way to understand different ways on thinking and talking about a subject as a means of deeper understanding of that subject. In my spare time, I enjoying reading, learning more about languages (even those I will likely never learn to speak), and cooking.

I am an undergraduate, completing my Associates of Liberal Arts at Northern Virginia Community College with a focus on languages. I then plan to move on to George Mason University where I will be completing my Bachelor's degree in Linguistics. In high school, I tutored my fellow students in French, and I was the president of JCL (Junior Classical League) also known as Latin Club. As president, I created effective and informative games which covered materials from Latin 1 through AP Latin 4. For example, I made a children's book of the Aeneid, which helps students remember important events and dates through visuals and poetry. Since I've grown up in a family of ten, I've had the opportunity to teach Latin to my younger siblings, ages 10 and 12, doing things like calling our dog "canis" as a way of helping them learn. In French, I've created visual devices to help students distinguish between specific grammatical constructions and word genders. For instance, I have lists of French words, categorized by gender, which have a picture of the word with a gender specific article of clothing on it. They range from a picture of a mouth with lipstick, "la bouche," to a movie theater with a top hat, "le cinma." I am also well experienced in how to properly approach timed writings as well as essay writing. In my AICE/AP Language and Composition class, I produced an essay for the short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" which my teacher requested an extra copy of so that she could use it as an exemplar for next year's students. I am a member of The National Society of High School Scholars, World Foreign Language Honor Society, Virginia Senior Classical League, and I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Civic Seal. Outside of academics, I enjoy drawing, writing, reading (especially language books), hiking, swimming, and kayaking with my family.

I am a graduate of Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. I received my European M.A. in Latin and Italian Philology. In the past, I tutored children and adults interested in learning Latin and Italian. Post graduate, I was a translator for an Italian company. I am Czech and Italian citizen. The past 15 years, living in Texas, I have tutored children at the elementary school. I was also the head coach of a Destination Imagination team that qualified for their Global Tournament. I am passionate about Latin derivatives, History, and Italian music. I love helping students learn new languages; opening their minds to new cultures they may never have experienced before. "As many languages you know, as many times you are a human being." - T.G. Masaryk, First President of Czechoslovakia. Thank you for your consideration.

When it comes to learning, there is no attribute more valued than passion. My teaching philosophy revolves around the core idea that the student should be the one to find the answers they need. Rote memorization, reciting, and hurling out facts without context will always place second to a true desire to learn when it comes to succeeding in academics. Not only should the tutor and the student aim to understand a subject, they should also try to develop a love for it.

My passion is for the Classics, for preserving and communicating the wonderful depths of knowledge which have been the core of education for the past 2000 years. Latin and Greek literature has shaped much of the development our civilization and those students who endeavor to contribute to its preservation and appreciation deserve to be supported. In addition to background and love for the Classics, shown through my BA from the University of Pittsburgh and a pending MA from King's College London, I also have qualifications in various areas of history (I double-majored for my BA), a field which works hand-in-hand with the Classics. It is similarly focused on the preservation of knowledge and is, I believe, instrumental in understanding many of the important issues which we face today. While I love history, my favorite subject to tutor is Latin. I absolutely love the language and love the opportunity to help others uncover the vast richness of literature written in Latin.Being an older and almost exclusively written language, Latin is not an easy subject for which to innovate teaching methods. There is, however, an opportunity to expand on traditional teaching methods by incorporating some of the advances made in teaching modern languages, primarily by using more speaking and listening exercises.Outside of tutoring, my main hobby is music. I am a singer-songwriter and I also help other local artist by leasing my home recording equipment which affords me with ample opportunities to interact with a wide variety of people.
