I've been a university professor for the past five years and have been tutoring for as long as I can remember. I began tutoring informally while I was still in high school, helping friends get ready for their SATs, helping them with assignments. I realized quickly that I was suddenly helping half of my school so I decided to make some fliers, and some money, and offer my tutoring to anyone and everyone in my hometown. Suffice to say, some odd years have gone by since then and now, even as a full-time professor, I find myself enjoying the experience of tutoring and helping students on an individual level enough to continue doing it. With a background in the sciences and mathematics, and a graduate degree in philosophy I'm incredibly well-rounded in terms of what I'm capable of teaching and moreover, have a generally positive pedagogical approach to everything; I really do love teaching. Even fields in which I have little experience become a contest with myself to master solely for the sake of helping a student. I have extensive experience in reading, writing, and editing (I've been published several times over as both head author and editor) and its something that I truly love to do. I currently hold three Undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Physics, and Linguistics, as well as two Graduate degrees in Philosophy and Theology. I'm a PhD at Harvard studying German philosophy and classics (Greek and Latin). Next year, I will be starting law school to pursue my professional passion, tax law. I am deeply committed to the language and LSAT skills I've developed and I love to tutor students of all levels in these subjects. I can't imagine a life without teaching. My favorite part of teaching is helping students come to love -- or at least appreciate -- the details that make up complex subject matters. My favorite moment with any student is when the student realizes how fascinating a subject matter is after really mastering all of the "dry" details. I received my Bachelor of Applied Sciences from the University of British Columbia, where I specialized in Biomedical Engineering with a focus on Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering. Growing up, I attended an international multilingual school. Throughout this time, I accumulated years of experience helping fellow students in a wide range of languages, including English, Portuguese, Spanish, and German. Today, I continue to offer tutoring services in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics, with a particular enthusiasm for Cellular Biology and Genetics. After graduating, I aspire to purse a career in clincal cancer genomics. I also speak German, having learned it as a high school exchange student, majored in it in college, and having spent a summer working in a Berlin law office. As much as I love the law--and I really do!--I also love teaching. I recently spent a semester teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Law at a law school; that experience confirmed for me that teaching is what I was meant to do. Another area of much interest, related to my background in history and public policy, is US constitutional law. I published a book on monetary history (*Gold, France, and the Great Depression*) , and a more recent book of essays on topics in economics and diplomatic history (http://books.ksplibrary.org/978-625-7501-75-0/ ) .... I have worked extensively on government-related projects, often in the greater Middle East. Effective tutoring should do more than impart techniques -- it should certainly do that -- it should help a student come away with some interest in and enthusiasm for the topic. While a student at UCLA, Madison taught in the history department, co-founded the Bruins Supporting Veterans student organization, and produced three publications. Her book, Beside the Nine: the Supreme Court through the Eyes of its Law Clerks is currently available through many online retailers, including Amazon. Madison is now in the middle of her second semester of law school at the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. She has had regular experience tutoring since 2015.
