Having travelled to both Mexico and Argentina for full-time volunteer opportunities, I've developed a passion for both the Spanish language and forming connections with other people across cultures. As it has been a significant source of happiness and purpose in my own life, I strongly believe that everyone that wants to should have the opportunity to experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from learning another language. I am also passionate about telling stories through music as a singer-songwriter, which I have been studying as a Commercial Music major for two years. These studies have included cello and orchestral experiences as well as working in a recording studio. All have taught me how to express myself creatively through the combination of musical and writing skills. I enjoy expressing myself through various forms of art and language. I speak Spanish and have a strong passion for music, particularly singing and playing the cello. Songwriting allows me to blend emotion and melody in a personal and meaningful way. Additionally, I love creative writing, which gives me the freedom to explore stories, ideas, and perspectives through the written word.

Writing empowers you. I know that can be hard to believe. Most assignments can feel arbitrary, many classes pretend that composition is detached from purpose or audience, and written work can feel like jumping through hoops. As a result, our current approach to composition often teaches students the rules while also teaching them to hate writing.I believe a better path is possible. My focus is teaching students to master the technical aspect of writing (especially for academic assignments), learn to love the process of composition, and understand how writing well will help them reach their own goals. Everyone has a voice, and my goal is to help students find that voice and understand how the craft of writing can help them share it.I believe in engaged learning practices, and had the opportunity to work with Dr. Anton Tolman to write a book on this topic. My work as a TA, creative writing community leader, and tutor have given me extensive experience in working with students one on one to craft truly excellent essays. That said, I keep the ball in the student's court. It's never enough to help students get through assignments. Instead, it is my goal to help them gain all the tools they need to tackle the work on their own in the future.

I graduated from Utah Valley University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education. As a first-generation, non-traditional student, I am able to relate to, and enjoy learning with, people from all walks of life. I have more than a decade of experience working with youth in the public education setting, plus three decades of parenting experience. Due, in part, to my passion for inquiry learning, I was chosen to train all secondary science teachers in my six-county area in the implementation of new science standards. I also enjoyed pioneering computer science into public education in Southern Utah. I served as Science Department Chair and as Lead Teacher in our school. As a family-oriented woman, I have been richly blessed in being able to spend time exploring the outdoors with my loved ones. I shine when helping you relate science to YOUR everyday life, and also in revealing to you how math is simply a tool of science--both applicable and enjoyable! Together, we will prepare you for they enjoyment of your academic success!

I believe that lasting learning comes from within. As such, my goal as I tutor a fellow learner is to empower and facilitate, not force feed. I have loved learning in a variety of subjects throughout my academic career, and I strive to instill a similar love in those with whom I interact. I enjoy both the puzzle aspects of STEM subjects and the ability the literary arts have to make me believe I am watching events unfold in another time and place. When I'm not learning, I enjoy working with my hands. I've built a variety of furniture, I care for a 2500 square foot garden, and I raise chickens. I have both a pilot's license and a motorcycle license, though I don't ride either at the moment. My passion for the Spanish language began while living in Peru, where I immersed myself in the culture and quickly realized how powerful language can be in building connections. That experience inspired me to continue my studies formally in college, where I deepened my understanding of Spanish and broadened my knowledge of the many cultures it represents. I later spent time in Spain, which gave me yet another perspective on the richness and diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. As a tutor, I strive to pass that same opportunity on to my students. Learning Spanish is not just about grammar or vocabularyit is about gaining a tool that fosters communication, empathy, and connection across cultures. I love seeing students grow in confidence as they realize they can use Spanish to explore the world, engage with diverse communities, and create their own meaningful experiences. I am excited to share this journey with students, helping them develop not only language proficiency but also the skills to connect with others in ways that enrich their lives.

Life's most rewarding pursuit is the cultivation of wisdom. When a person devotes themselves to learning all of their passions and desires are oriented to the best and sublimest things in life. My goal as a tutor is to impress upon my students a love of wisdom: To know how to think and learn what is best to think about. I have extensive experience helping students achieve their academic goals. I have tutored many high school students and undergrads pursuing degrees in literature, philosophy and theology. My goal is to identify the way my students learn and tailor lessons that appeal to their unique interests to build a bridge to the subjects they want to master. I have a bachelor's in philosophy from UVU, and I am currently pursuing a doctorate in systematic theology at Notre Dame. Additionally, I have a license to teach English Literature in secondary education and have worked in the film industry as a script doctor and screenwriter. I currently tutor all things related to English literature in secondary education (including test prep and essay development) Philosophical Ethics, Religious Studies (with an emphasis on medieval scholastics and biblical hermeneutics), Social Sciences, Social Studies, Adult Literacy, Filmmaking (especially screenwriting and directing), and the Performing Arts. My passion is making challenging ideas engaging and helping students find success in their academic pursuits.
