I've taught English from grade 8 to college, as well as a variety of science classes and electives at the high school level. I've taught students to dissect frogs, rhetoric, and complex literary texts. I've taught them to build simple websites, budgets, and compelling arguments. We've done maps and meditation. I have a master's degree in English and hold teaching certifications in both English and science. Hello, my name is Seth! I am a biologist who studies ecology and endangered species. I am a M.S. candidate in biology at TAMU-Commerce. For my thesis, I will be collaborating with faculty and other students investigating population distributions, habitat use, and community ecology surrounding Etheostoma radiosum, the orange bellied darter. Previous to this, I have lived in Alabama where I have worked with endangered species across the state in conservation and community ecology efforts. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Alabama as a double major in biology and earth systems sustainability in December of 2020! My tutoring style is very student need oriented. I don't like bogging people down with information they already clearly have a good grasp of. I like letting students (when they are comfortable) start leading the conversations about subject material as it helps build confidence and reinforces content.

I have enjoyed tutoring students for over 40 years. I remember my first student was the 7 grade daughter of the college librarian where I work at as an undergraduate at the University of North Alabama. I tutored her in math. I tutored numerous nursing students in chemistry while at graduate school at Vanderbilt University in Nashville where I received my PhD in 1985. I tutored students in science and math during my career as an industrial water treatment chemist. Upon retiring, I decided to continue tutoring part time as it still continues to bring me so much joy to help others suceed in their academic pursuits. I am the chemistry tutor at the tutor center at our local community college.

Above all else, I am passionate about medicine. Medicine is one of the most fantastic disciplines mankind has explored and developed. Through exhaustive research and continuous iteration the medical field has challenged and defeated countless, seemingly insurmountable, problems that cause so much undue suffering in humanity. At its core that is what medicine pursues: a reduction in suffering. It would be an honor to be given the opportunity to guide future professionals on the path of healing!

Teaching music has been my passion from the moment I received tutoring certification from my high school band director. My philosophy fosters critical thinking through the Socratic method, implements backward design tailored to students' goals, encourages expansion of repertoire and artistic expression through commissions and experimentation, leads by example, and executes in a rigorous yet humanizing manner. Qualitative and quantitative fundamental refinement is the foundation of success. I prompt students with quality individualized routines and challenge them to improve and amend their routine through the self-questioning of how the practiced element is helping them achieve their short-term and long-term goals. Additionally, I encourage students to be more than technicians of the instrument, but musicians that relate external events and ideas into their playing through an emphasis on phrasing. Each student is different and has the potential to leave a unique mark. It is my duty to uncover what that mark is and encourage growth in that aspect for the good of artistic expression.

As a dedicated educator with a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of North Alabama and a Bachelor's in Mathematics from Agnes Scott College, I have over 2 years of tutoring experience, specializing in Mathematics and Elementary School English. Reflecting on my educational experiences, I appreciate the immeasurable impact that teachers make on the lives of students. When I lived in Morocco, I have worked with young people as a teacher and youth worker in rural community schools in Morocco, I planned, prepared and delivered educational activities that engaged students in debate and general awareness raising about the broader global environment. Then I moved to the United States and started an MBA degree while again teaching French and Arabic as a language partner at the University of North Alabama. Many of the students I had were able to get prestigious scholarships abroad to enhance their language abilities.My experience working in varied environments has enabled me to develop a range of practical skills. I am able to manage effectively, conduct activities safely and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds. Further, I am very creative and enjoy sourcing materials that make learning interesting. Most importantly, my ability to work well with others, motivate, is a very significant contribution that I am confident I can bring to the course.

There are very few things that can excite me more than to watch the eyes of a student light up as the "I get it" moment happens. It is when the defeat turns to ability in their minds and it is fantastic. I have taught in middle school, high school and college settings. Classes taught have varied through the years, including Physical Science, Algebra I, Algebra II, Physics, Chemistry, and Bible. I believe the key to tutoring is in understanding the student. Each of us learns and communicates differently. For the student to succeed, the tutor must learn how the student thinks, teach to the student's learning style and develop the student's skills on how to learn in other ways as well.

I am a wife and mother of 2 young men. We are a homeschool family. I am a 2020 graduate of the University of North Alabama. My major is Interdisciplinary Studies with Emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences. I love teaching. I figured out how much I love teaching when my youngest was diagnosed with Regressive Autism. We had to think outside the box. I quickly learned that not everyone learns the same way. I also learned that different subjects can sometimes require different teaching methods. As a family, we are in our 12th year of homeschooling, and my youngest is graduating this year. Go!! Class of 2026!! I have been a Challenge B, 1 (for 2 years), and 3 Director with Classical Conversations, which are their 8th-, 9th-, and 11th-grade equivalents. I have been tutoring for over 20 years. I have tutored both children and adults. I love leading students on the adventure toward reaching their academic goals.

I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Alabama. I've been a teacher for 31 years. During this time I taught kindergarten, first, second, third and fifth grades. I currently teach second grade, but will be retiring this year to tutor. My favorite subject to teach is reading because there are so many fun ways to teach the phonics and phonemic awareness skills. I have tutored in reading and math and have also taught English online to students in China. My goal is to provide a positive learning experience as students grow in knowledge and confidence. I enjoy getting to know my students and designing engaging and creative lessons based on their interests and needs.
