About Me

Teaching music has been my passion from the moment I received tutoring certification from my high school band director. My philosophy fosters critical thinking through the Socratic method, implements backward design tailored to students' goals, encourages expansion of repertoire and artistic expression through commissions and experimentation, leads by example, and executes in a rigorous yet humanizing manner. Qualitative and quantitative fundamental refinement is the foundation of success. I prompt students with quality individualized routines and challenge them to improve and amend their routine through the self-questioning of how the practiced element is helping them achieve their short-term and long-term goals. Additionally, I encourage students to be more than technicians of the instrument, but musicians that relate external events and ideas into their playing through an emphasis on phrasing. Each student is different and has the potential to leave a unique mark. It is my duty to uncover what that mark is and encourage growth in that aspect for the good of artistic expression.
