Current Undergrad Student, Accounting and Finance Providence College
1+ Years Tutoring

I am currently a freshman at Providence College, studying Finance and Accounting through the Honors Program. Prior to my studies at Providence, I graduated from New Milford High School in the top 5% of the class. Throughout high school I helped tutor my fellow peers through the Math honors society and National Honors society. I also tutored students from grades 1-8 through the Homework club. Through these experiences I have seen the joy that learning brings to students lives, and in turn brought so much happiness to mine in seeing these students excel. I am enthusiastic to tutor a broad range of subject and am particularly passionate about mathematics. Being a freshman in college, I have recently gone through the standardized testing process myself and am eager to share my knowledge to help relieve the stress of test taking, by preparing my students for the material and showing them techniques needed for success. Through my experiences as a student and tutor I have learned the value and felt the joy that education brings to so many, and seek to spread it to my students.

I am currently attending Providence college. This year I worked as a teacher's assistant in a inner city classroom. I was able to work with twenty-six wonderful first grade students. In this position I helped children with Special Needs achieve their goals for the academic year. I also volunteered in an afterschool enrichment program for inner city students. In this program I helped fourth and fifth graders with their homework. I also was able to set up many fun group building activities.I love giving back to the community. I have worked with Habitat for Humanity and I am an active member of my school's ESL Club. In ESL club I help adult Spanish speaking students learn the vocabulary they need for their day to day activities. I have also tutored High School and College students in History, English, Spanish, Art History, and Religion. I love being able to find creative solutions to problems. I think that everyone approaches learning differently. In my opinion, teachers need to be flexible and they need to adapt to their students needs. True Learning can only take place when a student feels respected and safe.

I am a recent graduate of Providence College, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, with honors. At Providence, I tutored general chemistry to freshmen in the individual and group settings. In my sessions, students used problem-based learning for better understanding of the subject and to strengthen their problem solving skills. I really enjoy helping students tackle this oftentimes challenging subject and grasp difficult concepts. Chemistry is a subject that builds on the previous learned skill, so when necessary, I will always take the time to go back to the fundamentals to make sure the student understands the bigger picture.Since graduating, I have been working as a research assistant on clinical trials at a hospital in Manhattan. In my free time, I like to run long distance, read, bake, and explore the City.

I'm a 4th year medical student at New York Medical College, but I am in Philadelphia for one year for medical research. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a strong background in science courses, pre-med curricula, scientific writing, creative writing and presentations. I have tutored middle school, high school and college students in science, writing, and research-related topics and tasks like working through peer reviewed papers or designing research projects. I also teach two middle school biology classes over zoom.As a biology major in college, I have a strong soft science background (including marine bio, freshwater bio, ecology, genetics, molecular bio, biochem...) so please connect with me if you would like to work together in a science class.I eventually got to medical school, but a lot of classes didn't come easily for me along the way -- I know how it feels to hit roadblocks, but I have also gained valuable experience about how to overcome them. What kind of learner are you? Visual? Kinesthetic? Don't know? Let's figure it out, and then study in a way that works for you. Lets talk it out, draw it out, make up fun mnemonics-- whatever it takes to meet your goal and ace that test, and more importantly, to learn it for GOOD. I am so excited to work with you!

1+ Years Tutoring

I graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Civil Engineering degree. I worked as a CVE for 5 years and decided to change careers and become a Secondary Ed. math teacher. I earned my teaching certificate from Providence College and taught for 5 years. I also have my masters degree in Guidance Counseling. I have been a math tutor for over 10 years and am very excited to join Varsity Tutors! I tutor students in Algebra I, II, Geometry, and Precalculus. Tutoring allows me to do what I love while simultaneously helping students become successful confident math students. My teaching/tutoring style is flexible and unique to each student. I encourage students to think for themselves rather than give them the answers. It is important that students learn how to approach different problems using prior knowledge. I encourage them to do that while also giving them the math support they need before frustration sets in. Tutoring has been an extremely positive experience for me and I look forward to continuing that with Varsity Tutors!

I am a graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Upon graduation, I worked in hospital administration until beginning my pursuit of a Master of Science in Medical Science through the Drexel University College of Medicine. I have been tutoring middle school, high school and college students in Chicago through Varsity Tutors since November 2014. My own passion for math and science and my academic history of them has resulted in a focus in tutoring within these subjects. Of these, my favorite topics to tutor are Algebra and Chemistry, as they both have discernible patterns within the material which leads to a better understanding as one builds new topics on previous ones. I have found that students have the most success in first reviewing basic concepts to assess and address where they are having difficulty, followed by continuous problem-solving to reinforce the concepts and strategies until they become second nature. Like the subjects that I teach, I believe that education is an ongoing and ever-growing component that is necessary for a happy and fulfilling life, and that there is always something new to learn each and every day. In my spare time, I like to exercise, volunteer, play basketball, go snowboarding, watch sports (mainly football and soccer) or play video games.

In 2009 I graduated summa cum laude from Providence College with a Bachelor of Arts in history and secondary education. I am certified by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to teach history for grades 7 through 12. For the last three years I have been employed at the United Teen Equality Center, a non-profit organization in Lowell, Massachusetts that provides services, opportunities, and supports for 'at-risk' and 'proven risk' youth between the ages of 16 and 24. While working in UTEC's educational wing, I have taught high school history classes in partnership with Lowell Public Schools and served as the organization's main adult education instructor for youth enrolled in the workforce development program. I've also developed curricula across five different content areas. When I'm not teaching, I read, write, and support the mighty Arsenal in their latest Premier and Champions' League campaigns.

I can tailor lessons around the student's desires and goals, whether it be grasping the basics, explanations of complex concepts, or going through exam questions and SAT/AP prep.
