I graduated from high school in 2015. I am currently working on a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. I have always worked with kids. I help mentor kids through College Mentors for Kids at my college and I teach swim lessons. I love to teach singing because it is one of my biggest passions. I am currently in show choir at college and have been in choir classes since the 5th grade.I believe that all kids have the ability to learn. I want to allow students the chance to explore and to learn the lessons. Students should learn the information, not just memorize it. In my free time I love to workout, row and when I get the chance I love to go horseback riding.

I have been lucky enough to work with many students as an educator for the past 10 years. I received my Bachelor of the Arts in Psychology for Marian University in Indianapolis and my teaching certification from Indiana Wesleyan University. Since becoming a teacher, I have worked with students in many different settings from rural to urban in both private and public schools. My prior teaching experience has been diverse as I have been a general education teacher, Title I teacher, language arts teacher and special education teacher. In fact, I have had the opportunity to work with students in grades 1st-8th at some point during my career! While I tutor many subjects, I am most passionate about reading intervention and teaching the Orton-Gillingham method. In fact, I recently completed training necessary to qualify as a Dyslexia Specialist in Indiana. The most rewarding things about being a teacher is seeing my students have that "AHA!" moment and grow in confidence during our time together. My philosophy when working with students is that learning should be fun, meaningful and engaging and something that sparks their interest in becoming lifelong learners. In my free time, I enjoy reading (especially mysteries), watching movies, spending time with my family and friends and learning new things that will help me to grow both personally and professionally.

My name is Renee Richter and I am in my 10th year of teaching and am working as a grade 3 teacher at an international school in Dubai. I spent one summer working as a social media manager and graphic designer for a non-profit through the Urban Leaders Fellowship. In this fellowship, I utilized Canva to create promotional content for the Parent Leadership Training Institute of Kansas City. I also interviewed alumni in order to collect quotes for social media content and the annual report to show potential donors. Additionally, this fellowship afforded me the opportunity work with a state senator on researching and creating policy ideas for the upcoming legislative season. I drafted, along with my policy team, a proposal for the senator that recommended ending school suspension for pre-k to 3rd grade students. In 2019, I served the US Fulbright Program as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) at Pretoria Technical High School (PTHS) as the coordinator for the program. At PTHS, I ran intervention groups for grades 8-10 in English with the aim of helping struggling students to receive more academic support. I was in charge of a book club at the school while also supporting nine other ETAs across South Africa. I offered them guidance in creating projects at their schools and navigating life abroad. I also created reports to inform the USA Embassy and Fulbright staff about the progress of the ETAs and their projects. In 2018, I was an ETA at Boetse Secondary School in Polokwane, Limpopo. At Boetse, I developed and implemented remedial small group instruction classes for math and reading. I also designed a fun and engaging English discussion class for grades 10 and 11. Afterschool, I coached the junior and senior level debate teams. Throughout the year, I raised over $700 to purchase books to host a book club for my learners. Prior to living in South Africa, I worked as a 3 grade teacher for 2.5 years and have my certification to teach grades K-6 from the state of Indiana and Missouri. Through Teach For America, I worked on East side of Indianapolis, a predominantly low-income and under-resourced area of town. I developed unit and lesson planning skills, strong classroom management, and cultivated relationships with students and their families. For six months before my Fulbright assignment, I worked at a charter school in St. Louis. My co-teacher and I lead small group lessons for our class of 30 students. With these skills, I believe that I am a strong candidate for this position. Since December 2017, I have been working as an online ESL teacher with VIPKID. Teaching online has allowed me to have more exposure to ESL learners of all skill levels as I have worked students from age 3-14. I believe my extensive teaching experience has prepared me for a variety of roles as it has helped me develop organizational skills that are valuable to anywhere. Throughout my teaching experience, I have been devoted to my development as a teacher. Between my school's professional development and the support from Teach for America, I have had countless opportunities and resources for growth. For example, I created a PowerPoint of lessons based on one of my professor's research on teaching students about their brains. I am an experienced tutor in STEM and English Language/Literature ranging from elementary school to college level education. I also have thorough experience in cracking the SAT, ACT, and MCAT exams. I have completed my bachelors in biomedical engineering and am now pursuing my doctorate in medicine. I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish. Since earning my degree, I completed a two-year commitment as a corps member with Teach for America (TFA). TFA is an organization that works to analyze gaps in the education system and fills roles based on the belief that all children have the right to an equitable, excellent education. Throughout my commitment in the corps, I taught Spanish I, Spanish II, and Spanish III. I also served as the ESL leader in my school and have experience tutoring all subjects for high school-age students whose first language is not English. I also use my background in psychology to work with all of my students on study-skills that are beneficial for encoding (storing new information in the long-term memory).In my free time, I love to play soccer, run, try new foods, hike, and hang out with friends!

I am very passionate about my students! As early as five years old I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I began tutoring in high school and went to college to pursue a career in teaching and education. I changed my career to teaching in 2016 by completing a program at Marian University for a teaching certification for grades 1-8. Over the past few years I have had several opportunities to work with children of various back-grounds. The more recent experiences include my roles as an English Teacher and Advisor, a Special Education teacher, a Program Facilitator at a summer camp and as a Faculty Member at a theater conservatory. With the youth I have encountered, before I teach them anything else, I stress that they have to first learn what it means to bring what is genuine to a world that severely lacks it. This involves accepting and understanding themselves first and then, through education, developing what they have to offer society. To me, the most saddening experiences have been working with children that have been let down or abandoned by authority figures, like teachers, and have put up emotional barriers that pre-vent them from learning.Sadly, this phenomenon disproportionately affects poor communities where quality education is some-times lacking. Neglect, poverty, and policy have left our nations public schools lagging behind in a perpetuating cycle of underachievement. In my few short years as an educator, however, I am beginning to understand what is effective in alleviating this problem at the individual level. I strive to create a classroom that is a safe place for positive self expression where there is a joy in learning. More importantly, I strive to be a stable and supportive authority figure for youth who have, in the past, been let down.Currently, the achievement gap dictates that the quality of ones education is determined by their place of birth. However, there is hope and, more importantly, there are solutions to this national crisis, every child has the ability to achieve if given the opportunity. As a neuro/stroke bedside nurse (from medsurg to ICU), I've learn a passion of teaching new nurses. Nurturing vs "eating the young," has been a healtier method that I've learn improves patient care and outcomes over time. I had 8 preceptors as a new grad nurse, and it was overwhelming chaos.I have my BSN from Marian University - Indianapolis and my Masters in Health Leadership (MHL) from WGU. As a Sonographer Educator at the University of Pittsburgh, I combine more than 15 years of medical imaging experience with a genuine passion for developing confident, clinically skilled learners.
