I am a graduate of Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. I received my Bachelors of Art in Elementary/Early Childhood, with a reading component. I also received a Masters of Science in Education for the Hearing Impaired from the same institute. I hold a teaching certificate, and I'm certified in both areas. After graduating, I worked for two years as a Head Start Teacher. Following these two years, I went back to school to get my masters degree in Deaf Education. I have since worked as a Special Education Teacher as well as a Substitute Teacher. I am currently working as a ESL Teacher for a company in Vietnam teaching students English (as I hold TEFL certification). I love Literature, and History. It has been my experience in helping students who struggle with learning to read that they need someone who is patient and knows what it is like to struggle. I have struggled with reading through most of my school years growing up. Letting them know this helps them know that if I can make it so can they. I believe that every child can learn, we as tutors (teachers) need to find what their interests are and use that to help them with their learning. It is important for children to learn to read, because reading impacts every aspect of their lives.

Hi! I'm here to help you master math and science. I am a full-time professional educator (since 2018) with a Master's in Chemistry from Utah State University. While there, I taught over 2,000 students and received the Robins Award for Graduate Teaching (USU's highest honor for graduate instructors). This means I don't just know the material, I know how to teach it. I specialize in making "hard" subjects approachable for Middle School, High School, and College students, including challenging college-level "weed-out" courses: Chemistry: (General, Organic, Honors, and AP), Biology: (General, Honors, and AP), Physics: (Conceptual and Algebra-based), Math: (Middle School through College Algebra), and SAT & ACT Prep: All sections. I help students reach elite score tiers, including the 30s on the ACT (and equivalent SAT scores). My approach is patient and easygoing. I focus on "the why" to build real confidence. Let's work together!
Teaching has always been my favorite part of any job I have had. Working with students to get that next step figure out is so enjoyable for me. I have a master's degree in music theory, bachelor's in English and piano, and have worked professionally as a programmer for years. I've had the good fortune to teach in many venues: adjunct professor, one on one music lessons, substitute teaching pre-K through 12th grade, and tutoring and mentoring as a programmer. All of these situations were rewarding in their own unique ways. But the through line for me was the opportunity to help someone achieve something they hadn't before. I think it's crucial to have high stands (appropriate for the person and situation), and do this in a positive manner. Work with what's going right as a starting point, help where things need help, my bottom line is meet the student where they are and constructively move forward. Being positive, student focused and attentive are the foundation for a great outcome.

I first started tutoring when I was an undergraduate student in college. I tutored both General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. I finished my Undergraduate degree in Psychology with a Minor in Biology. I started teaching Chemistry while I was working on my first Master's Degree; I taught General Chemistry Labs. I enjoyed teaching so much that after I finished my degree I started teaching Honors Chemistry at the High School level. As a teacher, I love to use hands-on methods to teach concepts to my students. I believe in fostering a supportive and caring environment for learning. Part of the learning process involves struggling with the material before mastery. I work very hard to support my students during this challenging time. I also believe in helping students learn to take responsibility for their own learning process. This involves helping my students to learn the best ways in which to study challenging material for them as an individual so that they can be successful not just at their current educational level but also have study skills to take with them throughout their lives.
As a passionate educator with a Doctorate in Geography and Urban Planning from the University of Arizona, I have about 5 years of experience teaching both high school and college students. I believe in active learning methodologies, engaging students through discussions, role plays, and collaborative projects to foster an engaging learning environment. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy writing and exploring the intersections of geography and history, which enriches my teaching and inspires my students to appreciate the subjects in new ways.
