As a New Yorker born and raised, I'm very well acquainted with the intense demands of the NYC school system (both public and private). I'm here to help students understand that they have what it takes to be a solid writer, and as a result, hopefully, lessen the pressure and stress that I know that students today are under. After a two-year stint in high school leading a course aimed to help ease the transition of incoming freshman into my school, I knew I wanted to continue working with students in whatever way I could moving forward.In college, I enrolled in a writing-tutoring program that landed me two jobs on my campus's writing center. As a writing fellow, each semester I worked closely with students in a freshman writing-intensive English class aimed to bring everyone up to the same collegiate writing level. As a writing tutor, I held general weekly office hours that were open to any student seeking a tutoring session for any stage of their writingprocess across all subjects. In addition to these tutoring positions, I also worked on Colby's student newspaper The Colby Echo as the head copy editor.What I enjoy the most about tutoring is seeing students realize their own potential and gain confidence as they start to discover what they're truly capable of. Even while on the road, reading and writing will always be a passion of mine and I'm eager to help lessen the fear factor that I know it can often hold for others.

As a tutor, I have found that every student has a unique style of learning, so careful listening is one of the most important steps towards effective teaching. In fact, I believe it is the responsibility of a good tutor to adapt every lesson to the individual needs and interests of her students. I am fortunate to have studied extensively within my chosen academic fields, but as a tutor, I have found that my most valuable skills are my ability to keep an open mind, to listen patiently, and to communicate clearly. It is my goal to empower students by teaching to their own personal strengths, thus fostering a love of learning that will carry them beyond our tutoring sessions and into the rest of their academic career.A little bit about me: I graduated cum laude from Colby College in May 2015 with an honors degree in History. My coursework within my major was concentrated in both Middle Eastern and U.S. History. In my senior year at Colby, I wrote my thesis on imperialism in the Middle East during the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly focusing the First World War and its aftermath in the region. I received several competitive grants to conduct primary research in London and Oxford archives for this project, including the prestigious Goldfarb Center's student research fellowship. Once completed, my thesis was granted the award for the best senior essay in History that year. Additionally, I won Colby's annual prize for the best History student both my junior and senior year. I owe much of my academic success to my incomparable professors/mentors/advisors within the History Department, and now, as a tutor, I strive to provide the same level of enthusiastic support and encouragement to my own students.Beyond my history studies, I spent a semester during college at the University of Burgundy in Dijon, allowing me to develop my deep understanding of both French language and culture. While on Colby's campus, I spent much of my spare time working as an assistant to one of my professors on his manuscript, as both an editor and a researcher. During my spare time, I sang in the chamber choir, cooked, wrote poetry, and read (too many favorite books to count, but right up there are Brideshead Revisited, Persuasion, and Love in the Time of Cholera). Since moving to New York, I've added yoga to my hobbies roster. I am a graduate of Colby College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science. If you're looking to ace your German class, write that A+ essay, or just up your German conversation skills to impress that cute Jungen or Mdel that you met at the Biergarten last weekend, I'm your guy. I got my B.A in German at Colby College and studied abroad in Berlin for a full year during my undergrad. I've lived with Germans and worked professionally with Germans, and I am certified at the highest proficiency level in the German language (CEFR Level C2, if you're curious). Full disclosure, I'm not a native speaker...just an enthusiastic learner.I'm also a GMAT tutor. I took the test in April 2016 and scored a 740 out of 800. That's a 97th percentile score, one that I'm very proud of -- but I only got there by studying diligently. My aim in tutoring the GMAT is to give back to others and give some advice along the way that I wish I'd had. Working with me, we'll work not just on the core concepts and test-taking strategies, but also on an effective study strategy. The test *can* be beat, so long as you have a good roadmap to take you there.

I began studying French when I turned eleven. My greatest strength as a tutor is connecting academic subject matter to life outside of the classroom. When I was a student, I found that my French coursework became much more engaging when I understood its use and broader context within the Francophone world. This is the type of knowledge that I plan to share with my own students. What they are studying can actually be exciting and useful.I was lucky enough to study abroad twice during college. Living in France dramatically improved my language skills. I became a much more confident speaker, and developed a sense of spoken French outside of the classroom. My real passion for French comes through when I am speaking it. Confidence is one of the key factors in mastering a language, and it is a trait I wish to impart as a tutor.

I am a graduate of Colby College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a minor in Physics, and I have a Master of Arts in Math Education. I have taught HS math for the past decade in NYC public and charter schools, and I have tutored many students across the country. I am most passionate about teaching and tutoring students in math across middle and high school grade levels. I love sharing my passion for math, and I love helping students reach their goals. I am a rising sophomore at Colby College, and I'm working toward a Bachelor's degree in NeuroPsychology and Government. I had peer tutoring experience in various math and science topics in high school, and I'm excited to continue my teaching journey. I tutored students for four years in my high school's "Quant Center," assisting in everything from Biology to Algebra to AP Calculus. Additionally, I have helped peers with writing and English grammar and syntax throughout middle school, high school, and college. My passion for teaching comes from a desire to help others feel the wonderful satisfaction that I feel when finally grasping a new topic. The success that I feel when figuring out a tough problem or concept is something I find so rewarding, and I can't wait to help others feel that same accomplishment. I tutor in several AP topics: Biology, Statistics, U.S. History, Calculus AB, and Environmental Science. Hey! I'm a Colby College alum with a double major in Computer Science and Psychology, currently studying Computer Science at Vanderbilt as an Engineering Graduate Fellow. My tutoring/teaching journey began when I realized that I have a genuine passion for breaking down complex concepts, making them easy and enjoyable to understand. I enjoy making learning personalized and engaging, particularly in subjects I love such as computer science and psychology. Having discovered my ADHD in college, I understand firsthand that the typical way of studying doesn't work for everyone. This personal insight drives my tutoring approach, emphasizing the need for personalized learning experiences. I firmly believe that teaching should be flexible and learning should resonate with the learner above all. To me, success as a tutor means adjusting my methods to best fit each student's learning style. Outside of teaching, I love playing soccer (played for my college team!), rock climbing, or rollerblading. And, of course, coding - it's not just my field of study, it's my hobby. I also have a dog and two cats who keep life interesting :)

My experiences as a multilingual poet with 20+ years of facilitating workshops in person and online, as a college professor of English composition and literature (6 years) and college admissions counselor (4 years), I have a wealth of resources I access in order to tailor my teaching and tutoring to the students who work with me. I am currently an assistant English teacher living in Seville, Spain. I graduated from Colby College in May with a major in Education and American Studies and graduated with honors in both. I have lots of experience tutoring in schools and online and assistant teaching in different classrooms. I spent last summer tutoring 2 Spanish speaking children ages 10 and 11 in English. I was also hired by my college to be a remote tutor for a professor's kids ages 8 and 11 in all subjects. I also was a tutor and mentor for a 6th grade student at Waterville Maine Junior High and tutored her in all subjects as well (math, science, social studies, english). I am passionate about helping students who are struggling to learn online right now and I have lots of strategies and tricks for creating engaging and fun virtual tutoring sessions. I have always loved working with kids because I have four siblings and I also know how important it is for students to have online sessions with someone kind and encouraging.

I am a recent pre-med graduate from Colby College. In college, I worked as a biology tutor for freshmen students, an SAT tutor for local high school students, and a drum teacher for local youth and college students.My experience with youth goes from my tutoring experience to my experience as an outdoor trip leader with middle school kids in the Yellowstone Wilderness. I'm a recent graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where I studied Mathematics and Philosophy. At Colby, I worked as a tutor for both the Mathematics Department and the Writing Center, so I have experience working with a wide range of subjects. I enjoy tutoring math more than any other subject, mainly because that's what I've specialized in over the past few years. However, I also had a fantastic time working at my college's writing center, so I have no problems tutoring essay writing or SAT writing. I'm an Australian-American current college student who's been tutoring since high school. I did the IB in Australian high school and am now a junior at Colby College. I mainly tutor the SAT, Psychology, English essays, and IB related things (e.g. the EE). Currently I'm also working at Columbia as a Research Assistant.

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Colby College in 2007 with a degree in French Language and International Relations, I jumped on a plane to Uganda in pursuit of a less conventional office. In the years since I have lived, worked, traveled and taught on rivers and in classrooms around world.As a teacher at New River Academy from 2010-11 and World Class Academy from 2011-14 I introduced students to the world of English Literature inside the classroom and mentored them through challenges and intricacies of living and traveling with a small group abroad, encouraging them to find ways to pursue their passions. My time with NRA and WCA furthered my belief in the value of experiential learning, and my view that education should be holistic and foster creative thinking. It is one of the reasons I am most enjoy tutoring, as it provides the ability to work one on one and to shape education to the needs and interests of the student.While I tutor a broad range of subjects, from Spanish to test prep, it is literature and writing that I am most passionate about as I feel they provide individuals the opportunity to connect with the world around them and give shape and voice to their experiences and opinions.Outside of education, I pursue whitewater kayaking competitively, and was a member of the US freestyle team this past year. Whether it is on the field or in the classroom, I love the feeling when students have that "Ah ha!" moment, and finally get a difficult concept. I love to differentiate instruction in order to fit each student's unique learning style.I love tutoring science, particularly biology and chemistry because these subjects require a unique way of thinking. Instead of committing facts to memory, I challenge students to learn patterns, to use critical thinking skills and to question their reasoning in order to come up with a plan to solve scientific problems.
